he finds her bundled up in blankets her feet toward the fire in a great overstuffed chair with a pile of books at her side... she is dosing with a much used notebook on her lap....

she nibbles a cookie as he explains the spell... then reaches down and pulls forth a battered spell book whose lock is no old it no longer functions and had to be forced... i think i saw something like that in here... only they called it intraspacial astral projection....

lyssan chuckles softly... see i'm not totally out of it... i do know a thing or two about magic... even iffin i don't use it often or well... ye have to... when ye are in the governing position over a bunch of pre-teen mage wannabees.... anyway... iffin it works as it reads here... yeah... i think it will work... actually i use a form of it meself, more than ye might think... only i need no spell to make it function... couldn't figure out how to help ame though... what i do is inborn... i can't teach it... i guess ye can call it an ability as opposed to a talent.... ame is talented but what he does is learned... me... i guess i should let the cat out of the bag so ye understand... it can be confusing though, so i'll understand iffin ye don't grasp it at first....

i'm an inborn magic creation... an offshoot of me twin.... over the spans of time i became self sufficient... and fully independent... heck i don't know why i'm telling you this... not sure iffin jor even knows the truth of things.... anyway... divine pregnancies last for untold eons... we're actually brought into being long before we are even conceived... the all father dreamt us all... at the point of his finest creation... and in time we were.... some of us are stronger than others, for he dreamt us that way... others... like meself were afterthoughts... a way to drain one who would be too strong and a possible challenge...

lyssan sighs and shakes her head... going back in time to learn the truth of things doesn't always sit well, i fear... i wasn't at all happy to learn that.... so iffin ye don't mind... i'd prefer ye keep it to yerself... iffin jor learns that he'll either be angry that he was cheated of his purpose and blame me for my existence... or he'll tease me unmercifully for the rest of me days... of which i pray are as many as the stars in the heavens..... i have no desire to pass beyond the ken of man....

lyssan sighs and closes her notebook... i guess the nest thing we need to finalize is with me mate himself... iffin he ever shows his mug... he took off shortly after ye left with shia... he's never gone for very long so he may show up anyday now...

fizban gives ye a sullen look then goes to sit in a chair near the fire and across from lyssan....

lyssan holds out her arms and luceil jumps onto her lap.. half knocking them over.. it is only because ye are standing close that the chair doesn't go tumbling back...

ma... there's another nightmare here... but he looks really beat up... can i tame him... huh... can i.....

fizban glares back...

*didn't have to... he's smart enough to have figured it out on his own, i'm afriad.... not sure that he has, though he's been dropping hints in his studies... wondering why i'm not teaching him the stuff he needs*

luceil turns to look at ye.. can i help... uncle fizban has been teaching me a bit of earth magic.....

luceil nods and jumps down... gotcha... champhy always feeds me gems... but who's averus?... he asks going to the door...

fizban's outlines shift to that of a white scaled humanoid, with large luminescent eyes... he shakes his head slowly... nay, kerobian... at least not yet.... but he has been asking some rather pointed questions... and i'm at a loss to explain the answers to some of them... he wants to know why his magic doesn't work as it should... he wants to know why he can never get full... most dragons have large appetites, but they eat huge meals then sleep for days on end and he's caught on to this..... he needs to feed constantly... i keep telling him that his meals are smaller so perhaps that is why... but in truth... i am afraid my answer is completely inadequate.... and i refuse to lie to him.... he is more found of the dark than you might think as well... not the complete absense of light... mind you... but the starlit skies and it's myriad of night creatures.... i've taught him how to infuse a gem with a bit of energy... so now any stone will work for him... iffin it has a bit of crystaline structure... but although i could teach him the basics and fundamentals of spell craft i have increasingly noticed that he works with the weave in a completely different manner than i... some of his mistakes have been increasingly difficult to restore....
