Rain Yupa Kowsauni but but...I rolled a 20! that dosn't happen a lot of me. xp I'll probably let any already-made rolls stand as people's first turns if they want (esp. for Mik4ilah, who wouldn't know what a skill challenge is yet). But it really is dependent on the rest of the party. For example, if Dwalin decided to take out this human in personal combat, then threaten to do the same to any of you if you move from the spot, that would very well inhibit your ability to make the check, right? So it really did kind of jump the gun a little bit ^-^''''' well Dwalin wouldn't really do that sorta thing....not his way razz

Mik4ilah ((can I do the same as above?)) I'm not 100% sure what you mean by this. Do you mean, can you do the same skill roll Kowsauni did? If so, yes. Likewise, you can also re-use your roll from before or scrap it entirely for something new (since you guys started making the rolls a leetle bit early, but it's mostly my fault).

In a normal game, I would have skipped you by now for the round, maybe for 2 rounds by now. However, being your first, I think it's too important for you to see how a skill challenge works first-hand to do that.

After bringing the couple into shelter Dwalin would go off in search of more people, he would come across an older man who appeared he had been attacked by was still alive, the dwarf picked the man up and helped him get to a place he would be safe and get some help

Skill challenge breakdown: When 4th edition came out, they had the three difficulties as 10 for easy, 15 for normal, 20 for hard. They later revised it to 5/10/15, which I think was too low, especially for my games where I encourage above-average stats. So I settled for a middleground and add +3 to the revised DCs (making it 8, 13, and 18 for this skill challenge). As your level increases, so do the DCs for skill challenges, but I generally remain consistent with my +3 houserule. For this particular skill challenge, some things you guys missed out on: Intimidate: If one of you had attempted intimidate, it would have been an Easy difficulty skill, unlocking as a regular skill for everyone to use. Everyone's scared, it's not hard to scare them into shelter!
Bluff: However, trying to trick them would have been a more futile effort, when straight-up "come with me if you want to live" diplomacy was the better option. Bluffs would have been Hard difficulty.
Thievery: If someone attempted Thievery as a way to capitalize on the situation, they would have been caught by refugees with your proverbial hand in the cookie jar, causing a failure, no matter how high you rolled!
And one other skill which no one rolled and I won't reveal; it would have been a Hard DC, but succeeding it once would have made it Easy DC for all future rolls by that person! With the challenge over, as soon as you guys end the scene, you'll be getting experience, just like it was a regular combat! Oh, and if you had reached 3 failures? You would have been drawn into another combat encounter instead smile

One rule of DMing is to let the players make the decisions for their characters. Even if something is a natural choice, even if everyone else is doing the same, it cannot be presumed that a person's character would agree or do the same. That said, a DM in PBP games will sometimes have to force a character to do something to further the plot if the players aren't posting. I really really don't like doing it, but the infrequency is becoming an issue. I'm || this close to ending the scene ;_;
