These are the lines I have by Lil. There's also supposed to be Elder/Guardian type stages but they never got done...should ask her about that...hmm.

mindsend ANNOUNCEMENT: I think we came to a conclusion in the staff guild-y that we do want to START with Equines being the Predominant species to begin with -- other Species will be added as time goes on. EPF? o3o if you'd like to talk to me about possibly commissioning some pose sketches (not official templates just sketches for some pose ideas the team and I can go over and tweak and compile into a proper template) for males, females, M/F foals, and M/F Elders. Edit: AND MINIS.. ANd Hippocampuses. o3o And... Minicampus?

That background story is AWESOME! I love it!
And I really like the idea of a small token from the spirits as the first stage, I liked the baskets and such but RP wise it was always somewhat..awkward? It was just hard to wrap my mind around them giving birth and then putting them in the baskets and what if they were not the type to really interact with the humans..how did they get the baskets? How did the skinwalkers get baskets?!? BUT I digress...the spirit totem/orb/lantern/what have you solves that.

Uta that is brilliant. The baskets were always a bit of a pain for me but I love the idea of a marker and then natural birth! Especially since it could easily be applied to any breed. Just a little "hehehehe, be on the look out you guys~"

Uta Speaking of beginning stages, I've been pondering this for awhile.
Spirit world or not, these creatures still need to give birth, right? In soquili the baskets were convenient because people who WANTED to use the basket stage ICly could do so -- under the figure that the foals were born prematurely, put in the basket, the colorst changed etc. etc.
But some people liked to just have their soquili give birth naturally and call it a day, no baskets needed. The baskets were more of an OOC idea.
For this shop, breedings will happen either 1. Naturally with a mother/parent carrying the foals and 2. through special events or wishing stars or wishing areas with lovemates or breeds that can't have children. Those are probably going to be done in a more magical sense, a blessing from the Spirit of Families or Fertility or whatnot.
I kind of like the idea of an orb or a totem, but part of me wonders if instead if possessing the soul of the future children or whatnot, what if it was gifted to the equids/sanctuary folk as sort of a marker? Like a blessing?
If this is a magical realm, magic/sprites/faeries/whatever this Family/Fertility Spirit uses, can sort of drop them off as a 'sign' that pregnancy and/or foals are on the way.
The orbs or totems could be colored to give the expecting parent(s) sort of a heads up -- like surprise -- and a hint of the colors of their future offspring, and a potential number. I.e. 2 or 3 or whatever the number of kids the breeding is going to produce.
This way, it's not really a living being. . . it's just a small marker that the equid/character finds. For some it's like YAY EXCITEMENT! THE SPIRIT HEARD OUR PRAYERS! , for others it's HOSHIT o___o I AM NOT READY AHHHHH /panic moment . .. and others it's . . who knows. However they want to react.
Then, this way, people can RP out the future foals however they want. i.e. a traditional pregnancy with the mare carrying full term, or maybe they come early etc. etc. OR for a gay couple with a wishing star thing, maybe they find a foundling a few days later, or a few foundlings. . or just wake up and ta-da, there's a little foal sleeping near them presumably from the spiirts etc. etc.
Like.
We can keep the first stage simple, and something small. Something that doens't lock people in to "Do I have to RP the basket stage?" But something that OOCly owners can squee over and distribute to people they're gifting future foals to, and still give them a hint at what they might be getting.
That's an idea I kind of like, just because historically fertility totems and stuff were used and such, it's simple, it doesn't lock everybody in a one-size-fits-all, people can still control how ICly their characters get/have/find/whatever the foals, and . . .yeah.
This also works for any and all other breeds, too, be it they hatched from an egg, or born naturally. I like this idea.
And the orbs could be very easy to represent. The "mother" - in a normal breeding, which can be changed/altered for special breedings - could be recerted to have however many orbs floating around her. (The orbs having their own uncerts so owners can have a pretty little wispy stage.) This could work for other couples, too. Just a thought to show, specifically, these orbs go with this particular parent. :3 Sort of showing there's energy/new life hanging around them.

The orb idea keeps sticking with me, i drew this up out of inspiration. not official but maybe the blanket could be swapped with things like seaweed and shells for aquatics? or accessories could be added around it to represent the parents or breed type. regular orb  what it might look like painted  and someone mentioned glowing bits?  but i still like the idols idea, something small in the shape to represent the breed regular/mini/aquatic maybe made of stone or hand carved? i think Wardwood had something like that
