Kojiro struggled mightily to control himself, but found himself falling before little Miya's charms. She had grown into a woman, and Kojiro's marriage to Koyuki was no armor against Miya-chan's attentions. "You know the skills of the Bayushi school, do you not?" The bushi shrugged as he continued talking in the same low tone that Miyako used. "I was asked to act in her behalf to use my skills to remove a cause of contention between the two. She promised her gratitude and kindness if I were able to help. Would not these be the two greatest gifts a Scorpion woman could give?"

"Her gratitude and kindness, Kojiro-san? I'm sure there are far greater things if one is worthy of them." There was a delicate little sniffle as if in distaste for what Kojiro had told her. She glanced around the room, until she found someone who seemed to be or could take orders, and order a plate of rice and fish and glanced back at her game, unaffected by Kojiro's attempts.

"So tell me more about Ujina-san. He seems wary."The Hare was the only one she'd been introduced to so far, and seemed perhaps a bit overly serious. Which like with Lions or Dragons, or even Crabs could be useful.

Miyako looked at Kojiro and had to fight to keep her own eyes from swelling in disbelief. Could he really think that I don't...oh my...Only the smallest hesitation showed as she placed another piece. He had to be the simplest Scorpion alive. "That prize is only worth the highest price the woman can get for it, Kojiro-san." Letting that disillusion him just a bit. "If gratitude alone can open the doors, then the prize within has likely already been plundered and not worth the effort."

Miyako just smiled "Oh, I understand the value of equal trade, Kojiro-san. But would her gratitude have been worth your price? Was she in a position to offer you what you needed or wanted without it costing that which is more important. Say our clan or your family?" She glanced around the room and sighed. "Just please tell me you didn't discuss anything too bad in return for her 'gratitude' in a public place." Innuendo and phrasing aside, there was only so much that could be said in a public place. And Kojiro was just..."Please, tell me that much at least..."

Whatever his response, she nodded, resigned, "I could find a messenger..."It would be an easy way to get rid of any presumed debt she owed him.

Curses. Well, hopefully whatever's really going on isn't a part of our business. And perhaps they're honor will catch up to them before the consequences of their silence do.

"Thank you, magistrate."

The Hare stood and bowed, glancing over the two, and offering Tokugawa a small smile. "I'm sorry if I have wasted your time with my suspicions or concerns. I'm sure it will help us all rest to know that your lands are without any dangers or remark."

Or, perhaps it would help the others rest. For Denbe, it only meant that whatever the missing magistrate had been caught up in was either very tightly localized where they were headed, or subtle and clever enough that the local authorities were blissfully unaware.

He was done with his questions. Assuming no more came from elsewhere, Denbe would be more than happy to see himself back to the inn, attempting to focus enough to decide if this was a good or bad sign on his way back.

His nature said to assume bad.

Miyako nodded, excusing him, taking the letter if he wished to leave it with her. Slipping it into her sleeve, she continued her go game until her food arrived at which point, she began to eat; slowly and thoughtfully, she let her mind wander over the day and what it had brought, sadly not appreciating the food as much as it deserved.

Even after her food was finished, Miyako would sit at her go set, playing against herself and debating what actions to take upon the morrow.

@Kagae's homecoming:

Kagae would try calling out to try and stop his mother but his voice failed him and all he let out was a pathetic wimper before the panic begun to set. Watching his mother begin to leave and nothing he could do to stop her he begun Kaiu emergency plan number one.

Build a fort.

He grabbed some supplies (what was left of the dinner and tea) and ran for his workshop. He dumped the supplies in a corner and begun barricading his room placing whatever he could to brace the door. This included his desk, bed and pieces of material he had lying around as to brace the door against the invaders.
