Aesa nodded to the girl who was so proudly showing off her study book and it's pretty scrollwork. She had to smile at the youthful enthusiasm that Alex seemed to exude with any task she undertook - she herself couldn't ever remember being so excited with anything other than scholarly pursuits. Trying to sound sage she lent weight to Ace's words, "Ace is right you know - there is nothing you cannot accomplish if you apply yourself." Her own childhood had been filled with less optimistic words of advice - her parents had known at an early age where her talents lie and had set her firmly on the path to strengthen those particular skills. They felt it was better to be exceptionally good at one thing than fairly well in several. And she couldn't fault them their logic - she would always have a strong place in their society - for as long as she could hold it.

Looking to Marri again she sighed, linking her hands together in front of her on the table, "I am not entirely sure that I can keep him here beyond this evening Marri. He is of an exceedingly strong mindset on this point and I know he will test my limits if he truly fights me on this. So far my logic and pleas have been enough to keep him in bed but it simply cannot last. It as though he is both the immovable object and unstoppable force all in one. Has he always been so stubborn?" She felt somewhat underhanded finding out his personality traits without simply asking him - he had told her to inquire anything she liked, he was an open book. But she would not disturb his rest and she knew not how much time they would actually have together. For about the hundreth time she replayed his last words to her and blushed as she over analyzed them again.

Alex laughed and took off out of the kitchen again to go back to reading the beautiful scrips again. Marri looked over at Aesa and chuckled a little bit nodding. "Pretty much, he was always very set, but after his father died and he had to take care of Alex, no one has been able to stop him for long. I'm sure he might stay to the evening. While he's unbreakable and untamable, it seems you've weakened him. Ever since you've gotten here, he's been off set as if you've completely thrown his world for a spin. He's always been stuborn, but he's seeming to finally open up a little," she said with a smile before she sat down at the table with Aesa. She rested her head on her hand curious on why Aesa seemed so intrigued by this young man.

Aesa didn't allow herself to put too much stock in Mari's words - she had seen how protective he could become of Alex so she had downplayed her own abilities to cope in order to get him to stay. He seemed unable to help the downtrodden when they were in need and she would expoloit that trait if it would assist in getting him well. "There's no mystery there - I've bullied him into his bed. He has told me of his past and his quest to regain his position in this society. Is he able?" Mari didn't know very much about Mari but she had learned enough about the blind woman through conversation and observation - she was a seer and as such would be better able to answer her question than many. However her class of mage often took to answering important questions cryptically or in riddles - or simply being vague. Aesa did not know if their answers were tied up in their magic or not and she had never met one to ask.

Marri looked at her and sighed loudly shaking her head. It wasn't that she doubted his strength or stamina, she doubted how much he truly wanted. He would probably stay on the run until he was shot down. "I don't think he can. He doesn't have a good enough reason. He's been surviving on his own for a while now and same with supporting Alex, but he doesn't want to be the Prince bad enough," she said calmly sighing wising that it wasn't true. It would be so much better if he could fix up this society but she didn't believe he could. She wished it weren't true, but it was. That was all there was to it. The simplest way to describe it.

Aesa was surprised by Marri's answer enough that she was quiet for a full minute before she continued the conversation. For someone who had such faith in his abilities she did not hesitate to denounce his own drive in that particular area. However, she seemed to know him exceedingly well so there must be a reason she would doubt him. After contemplating her next question, Aesa pushed ahead, "He had said that he would as a matter of course take back what was rightfully his though you are right that he did not seem...driven I suppose is the best way to describe it. He mentioned that it was his duty to do so and I know without question that he is a very honorable man. I believe he would be a worthy King if his desire truly laid in that direction. If not for that what does he wish for?" That had the potential to be a loaded and personal question but so far Marri hadn't withheld anything that she could tell so if not now - when would she ask?

Marri folded her hands in her lap hearing the young mage's confusion in her voice. She knew it didn't make much sense but it made perfect sense to herself and that she knew was for a fact. It wasn't as much as she doubted the young man's abilities, but she doubted his wants. "A hero, he wants to keep someone safe and be able to protect them. He already has the life of a rich man or at least what he understands of it. I'm just figuring that he wants to feel like he's actually done something. That's why he drives himself to the near brink of death with you. He wants to keep you safe, he wants to help you get back to where you are. Yet, he's hesitant about that choice because he understands it as a way of heartbreak," she said softly just piecing that together from what she'd known from being around him. She stood up to get some water before hearing footsteps upstairs and knowing they were his as they were loud and had no rhythm. She sighed loudly and took some water drinking it thankfully wondering if he was going to come down here and join them. When a loud slam sounded, she sighed and rolled her eyes. "I guess he went back to bed," she said without worry in her voice, just a hint of irritation.

Aesa started as the door slammed upstairs, causing her to jump a little in her seat. she set down the table cloth she had been worrying between her fingers and looked up at Marri who appeared unfazed by his loud behaviour. Had he overheard their conversation? Was he upset that they were discussing him so candidly while he was not in the room? He had said to ask him anything but perhaps he meant that only as a personal invitation and not free reign for her to go snooping about his life. Hopping up from her chair she righted it quickly and moved to the stove where she gathered the broth Mari had set aside for him. "Well...I'll just go bring this up to him while he's awake. Just to check on him. To make sure he's alright. Alright then." Her words were not as well strung together as usual and she fumbled with the bowl a bit before gathering a wooden spoon for him to use to eat. With a nod to the older woman she took to the stairs, being careful not to spill the still warm liquid.

Once she reached Ace's room she hesitated at the door, not wishing to burst upon him unannounced, especially if he was irate with her. Aesa repositioned the bowl to her left hand and knocked lightly upon the door. "Ace? May I come in?"

Ace had gotten up when he smelt food trying to make his way to the door before he tripped and fell down. Being already as achey as he was, he hadn't tried to get up and settled for laying on the cold floor. He grabbed the blanket off the bed and tugged hard pulling it over himself and curling up in it before he heard Aesa's voice. "Yeah," he said groggily rubbing his eyes and looking up at her to where he knew she would be. He nuzzled back into the floor feeling his headache come back from the impact on the floor.

Aesa didn’t know why she was surprised to find him curled up on the ground instead of bed where he should be. His lack of will to see himself healthy was astounding to the young mage and with a worried tsk she set the bowl aside on the chest to try and maneuver him back into the bed. He was still too warm though his temperature seemed to have gone down somewhat. As she struggled with his heavier weight she grumbled under her breathe, ”I think you’ve divined a new purpose my thief - you probably stayed up all night thinking of ways to cause me concern hmmm? I know - when she comes to check on me I’ll be sleeping on the hard floor, that should do the trick.” She wasn’t really lecturing him as her tone wasn’t truly heated - it was just her worry taking on the form of a censuring.

Once she had him settled with the pillows propped up behind him she replaced the blanket over him, tucking in the edges. “Well I’ve brought some broth for you if you feel that your stomach will be able to tolerate it?” She gathered up the bowl and re-positioned herself beside him on the bed awaiting his response.

Ace looked up at her quietly and frowned at her look she gave him when she found him on the floor. He stood up with her help walking back to the bed but he glared at her for complaining at him sleeping on the floor an everything he's been doing. He sat laid down on the bed looking at her funny when she tucked the blanket around his body. He pushed some of it out except around his back where it was enjoyable. "I'm not. I like sleeping on the floor, I always do when I'm not feeling good. I tripped on the blanket," he said softly before nodding at the question if his stomach could tolerate the food.

"I'm not sick like that. Just sore as hell," he answered.

Aesa looked thoughtful before she nodded and moved closer to him on the bed. “Good then.” Taking his hand she carefully placed the bowl in it and smiled to show he should go ahead and have something in his system. ”Well I suppose I could have brought you something a little heartier then. If you would like anything just let me know.” In his current state she didn’t think he would allow her to feed him though he was clearly weak as a kitten. She would wait - if he showed signs of flagging she would simply take the bowl from him and take over. ”Alex has arrived as well - and is as lively as always. She was worried for you but once we assured her you are alright she has taken up studying with Marri. It is good that you encourage her to broaden her horizons - I can see much potential in her if she finds a focus for all that energy.” Though she had known them both such a short time she just knew that Alex would tackle any task set before her with enthusiasm.

Ace sat up and took the bowl from her gently wincing a little bit at the small weight before he just put it up to his lips and downed it ignoring the hotness of it. He put it back down on the chest wincing yet again as if he'd been beaten down, not sick. He laid down on the bed again nodding about Alex. "I know, gets her in trouble too," he said with a small smile before he nuzzled his face again into the bed. He turned his face into the pillow though to growl before looking up at her again. "Why can't I ever just get a cold?" he asked at nobody really as he was just frustrated and mad right then. He wanted to get up, move and be out the door, but he was still pinned down.

Aesa truly felt for Ace and wished she had the abilities necessary to have him complete healthy and hale. The best she could do at this time though would be to empathize with him and so she settled herself beside him once more, looking up at the carefully constructed mural on the ceiling. “She probably hasn’t even touched on the trouble she will cause in the future.” She meant that with no censure on Alex’s part - simply that a child with that much boundless energy was never meant for peace and quiet. Aesa herself did not have a very hearty constitution and was prone to colds and such if she so much as thought about them it seemed. It had made for some rather miserable training assignments when she had to camp in the damp marshlands of the higher world. ”I know it chafes to be laid out Ace but I for one am grateful that you are taking the time to rest your body and allow it to replenish itself. Thank you.” Here turned her head only to smile at him sincerely.

Ace looked at quietly and smiled a little. "That's what I was told growing up. You're welcome though," he said with a gentle smile. He was in a decent mood where he didn't hate any one right then and kind of just relax not minding it. He yawned loudly and stretched a little bit pulling the blanket around himself tightly. He pulled a hand out and looked at it as it tensed up and grew warm as he just looked at it. He wondered if he could do magic, he was told he had before, but he always blacked out after it and could never remember it that well. "What's it feel like to actually produce something from your spells, or magic, or charms, or what ever," he asked curiously.

Aesa had not been expecting the inquiry and it showed on her face - but as with most things she took care in her answer, thinking over her response from several angles. “Well the sensation itself has changed throughout the years. At first it was an exciting thrill - a proud accomplishment when I had been able to completely produce my first casting. I remember my parents had my favourite dessert, fruit and cream purchased from the marketplace in honor of the occasion. As I have aged and learned it has changed and grown with me to a point where it is now a feeling of comfort each time I successfully complete a spell. I truly feel as though for that singular moment I am in sync with the cosmo’s Ace. It is something I cherish and cannot ever imagine losing.” She wasn’t sure if that answered his question or if he meant something more specific but she assumed he would ask if that was the case. She knew of mages in history who had been need to be brought to heel as they had grown arrogant in the use of their abilities and had become dangerous to the populace at large - in cases where it was a matter of insanity over maliciousness they had their core burnt out rather than execution. Which in her mind was a fate worse than death. She wouldn’t elaborate on the point further with Ace but she pitied those who were born if the lower world if only for the fact that they would never experience the pure pleasure of touching that spot in the universe.
