I occasionally buy tee shirts from HT nowadays (Where else can I find Labyrinth shirts??), but I wish they'd go back to being the store I remember from a few years back, when they had Ren-wear, and REAL collars that buckled and were made of leather and metal, not pleather and aluminum >.<

I think that people who shop regularly at Hot Topic and call themselves Lolita, Jrockers, Visual Kei...etc. need to be very careful.

In general, I think clothes at Hot Topic are not close to actual Lolita fashion. It seems like they're trying,(which is exciting!) but they have too much of a Western Goth look about them to be Lolita.

This would be almost impossible to pass off as lolita.
Not only is it made with cheap lace, the front of that dress looks very awkward design-wise (but that's just me being nit-picky! wink )

If you did buy that dress, my suggestion would be to wear a petticoat, opaque white stockings, flat black mary jane shoes, and a white puff-sleeved blouse underneath it. You would have to wear a shirt under this otherwise it would be erololi because of the shoulders/amount of chest showing.

Why is this even on this thread?!?! I hope no one's thinking this is Lolita!!

I got a dress from Hot topic and ended up modifying it I don't think that. It is so bad to get some stuff from there if the article is what you want. Though I think the ripped up look is redundent to buy, cheaper to make.

Well, if there's something cute I find at HT, I'd be all for buying it (If I have the money), if only there weren't so many damn posers/stereotyps shopping there as well. mad

I've been shopping at Hot Topic for a while...

I think that when you're trying to be Lolita in the US, you really aren't in a position to be picky.

It may not be extremely Lolita, but it's the only goth/alternative chain store in America, that is in many malls. Plus, I have yet to see any other chain store cater to the Lolita crowd, or any other J-fashion.

I think HT is cool so long as you don't take it seriously.

There are FAR too many 12 year olds who think they're punk because they buy all their clothes at HT. YEAH fight the system man. rolleyes

But looking at it fashion wise, instead of buying yourself a scene, it's a decent store.
I just wish their clothes weren't so cheaply made... sweatdrop

Honestly, I'll go buy something I like there. The problem is how rude they can be! I like light pastels color. The closest thing you can find black on my is my hair. I was just wearing a pair of jeans and a comfy shirt. Okay, I didn't really fit into the normal scene of HT, but I wasn't being so noticeable on purpose. So I walk in there carrying a few bags from Hollister [I was with my cousin from California who was here for a few days. She went to Claire's, but I got stuck with the bags. She loves Hollister], and they all treated me like I was scum. Only one of the cashiers bothered to even ring up my item [a pair of socks I thought were cute].

One of the cashiers walked out of his post when I came up! They even tried acting all girly around me. >.< All I can say is that I really don't like Hot Topic in my area. >.<

Sorry. HT just gets me really mad. They were so rude!

Hot Topic is overpriced and of low quality. It also comes with that terrible social stigma.

I would never shop there.

Why would I, when I can get high quality things for much less online? [there are countless retailers with amazing things; you just have to look a bit]

The staff also shoulders anyone who is not of their stereotype. It's just a disgusting store [where the local youth spend their days stockpiling striped socks, Invader Zim merch, and stud bracelets while lamenting about their problems and spazzing out over new Nightmare Before Christmas cellphone cases]

...sorry sweatdrop

I don't like alot of the "lolita" hot topic stuff, but I have seen some people make it look good.
Although its not really the case now since all the victorian fashion is in down here, I would like there to be Hot Topic in Australia. It's just usually so hard to find clothes that I like where I live. Yes the clothes are casual and in some cases bad quality (I have a dress from there which is actually quite nice), it'd rather get my clothes from there instead of some of the terribly overpriced places here.

Well... I don't know what is really gothic, but! I find the clothes in the first post totally... ugly gonk .

I'm a lolita in the usa and DAMN I can be as picky as I want. as are SEVERAL usa lolitas.

It does pay to spend the extra money to buy brand or make your own.

It looks better, is better. and you won't get laughed at.

loli stuff at HT sucks xp They're overpriced and the quality usually stinks, but I do think that they have some pretty cute shoes

Some of it good, some of it, no.

I don't think if you like something loli-style from Hot Topic that's a big issue or you're a lower class of Lolita or something. I have the blouse in the second link.. But if you have an entirely or near entirely Hot Topic based wardrobe that could be a problem.

I think the biggest issue is the older Lolita fearing the emergence of Mall Goth Lolis.

And yes, hottopic.com models are some of the worse that ever existed.

Yes, the models are horrible. How they got there, I have no idea...

Yeah, if I find something I actually like and can afford, I'll buy it. But otherwise, no. The only things that I really would like from HotTopic is maybe some accesseries and volumes of Cure magazine (and possibly other Japanese magazines). That's about it.

I have my OWN style that I'm trying to get together, and I don't really wanna wear something that everyone else is wearing... Unless I really like it and mix it in with other things so you can't tell... But, I'm still working on my wardrobe and I'll soon have it the way I want it - hopefully.
