Well, I'm a bassoon, so the Rite of Spring was the hardest.
The damned thing starts on the second C above the staff!
Plus, I had a lot of pressure on me, seeing as I'm the first chair bassoonist and the only playing the intro.
It's a pretty tough piece.
We also did the Sorcerer's Apprentice, but the only hard part was counting the rests.

Hardest song I ever played in ensemble was Sonoran Desert Harmonies by Eric Ewazen, for 8 trumpets. @@ I had a solo part, and it was tricky.
As for solos, the Trumpet Concerto by Arutiunian (pronounced "ahr-toon-ian") (sp?) was my most difficult. x.x

^_^[videl-chan]^_^ We played a song called Symphonic Dance No.3. It was one of the BEST songs I ever played. But it was also the hardest song I've ever played. Is that Fiesta? We played that. It was AWESOME. We played Espirit de Corps too. It was funnn. It got irritating after a while though. I think the hardest so far is Rhapsody in Blue. We learned it after the competition. We would have OWNED with it. But we owned anyway so it doesn't matter.

Um, you know how I said that "Ridin' the Rails" was hard? WELL! I was SO VERY WRONG!!!! Now, I think that "Finale"-"William Tell Overture" is the hardest song I've ever played...

There may be plenty of fish in the sea Ah, it's gotta be Appalachian Overture for me! Horrible, horrible piece. And we're playing it at the nationals this year. =[ but who really wants to date a fish?

We're playing a high school piece. A Short Suite for Band. It's awesome and stuff, but there's a part in every suite (there is 3) that makes me wanna crawl under a hole and die. It's not easy. But it's awesome when we play it all right.

ha, i can actually say that i have played "Manzoni's requiem" and omg, NIGHTMARE! I played that in a small benefit concert for a friend who was conducting, it was apart of his ISM thing at the end of the year. Those were some of the best songs I've ever played, I played that, "October" (not hard) by Eric Whitacre and "Gandolf" from LOTR (LOVE THAT SONG! OOH YEAH!), it was especially fun since I was the only lowest-sounding brass-instrument there (baritone) so yeah. but "Manzoni's Requiem" oh jeez....thats all i have to say, haha!
but band wise, the hardest song we ever played at a concert was "Armenian Dances Prt. I" but to me it really wasn't hard, it sure was fun though! hehe

"Shortcut Home" is the hardest I've played, although it might just be because I got it on Friday. It goes up to the top Bb on flute 2 (I'm bad at starting on those notes), has tons of accidentals, and is generally eighth/sixteenth notes. There's also this one part where my fingers keep wanting to change from A->D or D->A.
Edit: The BD has officially cancelled this as one of our contest pieces. Apparently, one flute could handle it, and no oboes/clarinets were able to play it.
