Suicidesoldier#1 The probability of killing someone is high when you’re in an armed force that's sole purpose is the defense of others by the exploitation of force, this force achieved by weapons who's sole purpose is to kill. Anyways, as far as everything goes, you'll need to be extremely physically fit. While the Army in the past has been very lenient, the projected budget is very low, and the rising trend of obesity causes many military recruitment groups to be very careful in who they accept. As for as BMI and Body Fat percentage goes, you can get waivers for that; so long as your score well on your physical part. I.E. your going to need to be able to do 30-50 push-ups, 50-100 crunches/sit-ups, pull-ups, dips, and be able to run two miles in roughly 12 minutes. It's pretty tough, and pretty demanding. They'll help you out will college like before; but now it's going to be even tougher because they be accepting just anybody. With the budget cuts... drop outs will increase and actually be forced. Instead of just excepting everybody, they'll only except the best, and limited amount of the best. Because of this, if your not completely 100% devoted, your going to have a tough time getting through. Edit- The probability of killing someone during your career in the military is considerably lower than you think. About 10% of the jobs in the Navy put you in a situation where you have to kill someone. It's about the same for the Air Force. Army, it's about 90%, as well as Marine corp, unless you land a job at Kings Bay or Bangor doing nuclear weapons security guards... Lucky assholes... current US Navy PRT standards for women ages 17-19: Curl Ups (like, half a sit up), 50 in two minutes. Push ups, 19 in two minutes. 1.5 mile run in 14 minutes 45 seconds OR 500 yard swim in 13 minutes 45 seconds. No pull ups or dips required. This is minimum required to pass. And also the 2010 standards. current body fat maximum to be eligible for retainment is 33% for females ages 17-39. Current post 911 G.I. Bill: You pay nothing into it from your pocket and when you get out, as long as your accepted into the college, it will pay three years full tuition as well as E-5 BAH/w dependents (Basic Allowance for Housing), which currently isn't that much (give me a zip code and I can find out any locations BAH rate for you for you). Sorry, had to add an addendum on there. We males in the Navy get pissed off at the females because only about 15% of them actually carry their own ******** weight. The rest use their v****a's to get them rank, or what ever else they want. Or they get pregnant and go to a shore command where they sit around and do NOTHING. >.>... sorry, I'm working with one of them right now. She's six weeks pregnant and claims she can't do a damn thing. It's ******** annoying. Anyway, carry on.

I will have to say, that's bullshit. My family, especially my dad and step-dad has taught me my whole life that i HAVE to carry my own weight. My mom has taught me that I can't rely on a man to give me s**t or take care of me my whole life. So...I'd hold my own just fine.
And actually, because of the fact that alot of what you do in the military is based on your ASVAP score...at least that's what i keep getting told, i'd never make it into anything higher than army and marines. sure i'm smart, and quick...but i suck at math, and i blow at science. the navy wouldn't want a punk like me. haha.
and honestly, i'd have to lower my weight. i'm not obese by any standards, but as far as weight and body fat percentage goes, i'm no where near in shape either.
as far as the requirements, i'd do fine on the swimming, but not so much on the running. and i'd do alright in the push-ups area....i've done curls before, but they're annoying, i'd have to re-aquaint myself with them.
and i agree with you, i'm female, and i think it's bullshit she wont do anything. when you're pregnant, the doc tells you flat out to carry on with your life. you don't HAVE to take it easy until you're on your due date....because it's not going to hurt the baby at all, in fact, it's BETTER for both the mother and infant if she IS going about her normal activities.

Right now I am like, roughly 5 pounds overweight. My body fat percentage is like 8-10% though. Well, 11% right now becuase it's winter and my body just naturally does that. xp
But it's usually between 8-10%. Anyways, I can do maximum requirements for the physical as my minimum acceptance if I chose to, so, I'm sure I'm fine. They'll be like "Uh, your a little heavy." And I'll be like "Yes sir." and they'll be like "Carry on."
And that'll be that. There are a ton of bodybuilders/powerlifters/special operations people who's BMI is WAY over the limit but their still in their branch, so I'm sure I'll be okay.
The only thing I'd have to worry about is passing my physical; I'm bow legged, have scoliosis, sciatica, bone cists all over my body, and basically my bone structure is horrible; I have a ton of 'birth' deformities. It looks like I got in a horrible car crash and then it all healed wrong. Technically, I'm 'asymmetrical'.
While I have a host of other mental disorders, I can hide those. But... you can get a waiver for all of that. They don't disallow people with flat feet anymore, can't disallow me becuase my hips and shoulders aren't aligned. wink

Well Gwin, you have a choice to do either the swim or the run. I'm a horrible runner. Always have been. And I hate running. Though I was doing the 1 1/2 mile run in just under 10 minutes when I got out of boot camp with a smoke in my mouth lol. I recently failed my last PRT because I strained ligaments in my ankles, and medical refused to waive it. I could swim the PRT, but given my background when it comes to swimming, it wouldn't be much of a challenge. I grew up in Florida on the beach fighting riptides (which are a b***h to swim against). Completely destroyed my swim qual in boot camp and would have qualled 2nd class swimmer if they didn't stop the exam due to someone getting injured (he was kicked in the eye and it now 50% blind in said eye). But oh well.
Oh, and Skip, it does suck to hear about your s**t, but we all have our problems whether their physical or not. I'm just happy to know that you're living with it instead of bitching about it.

All you got to do GuineverexX is push yourself, and I'm sure you'll be fine. The cause for concern is this- know what your getting into, and be prepared.
Like everything in life, luck favors the prepared. Instead of getting to the Army confused and getting off the bus confused like every other recruit, you can have a grasp, or even a full understanding of how the processes are going to work, and get the upper hand. blaugh
Btw Skip, I said all those things to merely provide examples. Thank you for your input, however. whee

See honestly, i'm in good health, and as long as i actually remember about such things as my vitamins, and actually bothering to eat something other than redmeat during the weak, i don't get sick easy. although...the downfall to that is...when i do...damn it's bad. and honestly, i've what being in the military can do to a person, both the good and the bad. and really....you could tell me a million times what i need to be able to do and be prepared for, but it's likely i'll still get off that bus worried and confused. that's okay, i adapt well, i'll get over that quickly. haha. and yeah....i can swim like a bear. and i know what the tide is like in florida, been there, faced that beast. loved it. haha. i'm a serious water dog, i can swim in literally any condition you throw at me. haha. xp
meep...and Mechanical...you spelled my name wrong. haha. it's in my user...that's sad. i spell it in traditional welsh style. Guin. haha.

Bet I know a condition you can't swim in. Lol.
And everyone is scared and worried when they get off the bus. Hell, even I was (not really scared, but more so nervous because I have a slight agoraphobia).
And yes, I know I spelled your name wrong. I was tired and buzzing on alcohol. Throw me a frickin' bone here lol.
