Well, there are less complicated ways of getting a different character. The simplest is telling the DM you no longer find it fun to play that character and then ask if you can play something else. For you, you might as well give the DM permission to use your character as a future NPC boss or something.

Better then me... Going sparrow, using Shatter on everyone's items, laughing as I slowly disrobe everyone of their possessions... Yeah, that was what I thought would be a good time.

In the book, it says it'll eat anything metal.
In reality, just about any metallic object will oxidize given the right condition.

Truthfully, gold doesn't rust. Rust is a byproduct of iron oxide (FeO2). Gold is a highly unreactive metal in its pure form (ie. 24 Karat). However, the additives used in jewellery may facillitate minor reactions leading to a "tarnished" or otherwise "rust-like" appearance. But that is chemistry, and I'm not sure how a rust monster's "rusting" ability would have an effect on reality chemistry. Especially since its a Extraordinary ability which is described as thus... D20srd Extraordinary Abilities (Ex)Extraordinary abilities are nonmagical, though they may break the laws of physics. They are not something that just anyone can do or even learn to do without extensive training. These abilities cannot be disrupted in combat, as spells can, and they generally do not provoke attacks of opportunity. Effects or areas that negate or disrupt magic have no effect on extraordinary abilities. They are not subject to dispelling, and they function normally in an antimagic field. Using an extraordinary ability is usually not an action because most extraordinary abilities automatically happen in a reactive fashion. Those extraordinary abilities that are actions are standard actions unless otherwise noted. Its up to the Dm really, but in the Complete scoundrel the give "care tips" for the rust monster larvae. In it they describe giving it fresh air, along with a minimum amount of metal equal to 5gp.

Vorastrix an elf lifts a gnome half her weight without a thought???? What I meant was, was that she just did it automatically. And... her light load is 50lb, so yeah, she can do it pretty easily.
