"You grew up in a dangerous time. Back then there was a high demand for power. You were constantly under attack, yes?"
"But you had always managed to defeat your opponent no matter what."
"Until one day when you were finally betrayed!"
"What are you talking about? Who betrayed me? ... How many generations?" Diel didn't want to know the answer to his last question. But he had to know.
"We do not know the culprit. The details have worn over the years."
"But we can tell you one thing for certain..." The elders began to speak at the same time.
"Everyone you once knew is now dead."
(Cue the insanity in 3... 2... 1...)

Ebony stared at Diel with wide eyes. "He was king many... generations ago!? And everyone he once knew is dead, so... Just how old IS this guy?" He didn't look that old. Perhaps these two elders were just going senile. How could some go through generations of life, but not look older than dirt? Needless to say, Ebony wished she could look the same age for the rest of her life.

"Diel is a special case. He did not age as the rest of us. Nor was he aware of this time lapse."
"No, he was frozen in time!"
"Perfectly preserved!"
"Until two of our mischievous young warriors snuck into the temple without permission."
"Don't worry, though. Our medicines will heal them right up! Fufufu."
Diel was still in shock. He'd hardly heard anything the elders had said.
Gone... Dead... Everyone... He couldn't help but think of his lost love, Mizura. Thinking about her being dead... It made Diel shake.

(Whoops. That was meant to be in Ebony's thoughts. Ah well, stuff happens. ^_^)
Ebony shook her head. She didn't even realize the words had come out of her mouth. "S-sorry! I didn't mean to actual say that." She replied, mostly directing it toward Diel. However, it didn't look like he had heard what she said. "Um, are you alright?" she asked. Diel looked like he was going to faint. Perhaps the time lapse came as too much of a shock.

"Where do I go..." Diel's words started as a small whisper, but then grew to an audible volume.
"What do I do now...? That coward... Having done away with me like this... I'd rather have died instead... I won't accept this! As a king I demand justice!"
"... Justice is not fluent in the language of revenge, young king."
"Our king is now dead. You could always rule here and start over."
"Oh, that is a fine idea."
"... No!" Diel was boiling with rage.
"I won't rest until I have found out who did this." Diel stormed out of the house and headed away from the desert; he didn't want to stay there any longer.
(Dang... Never knew he could be such a Madona...)

Ebony looked back and forth at the exit and the two elders. "Um, uh... Th-thank for seeing us!" She said before standing up and following after Diel. It was probably best she stayed with him, even though he was in a rage at the moment. At least, with him, she wasn't entirely lost. He knew his way around, apparently.

Diel walked out of the desert towards Hyrule Field. The desert was just depressing as it was. It would only infuriate him further. He used to go out into the Field before and even to Hyrule Market.
Suddenly the poe had returned to Diel.
"So, this is the path you've decided to take. You wish you seek the truth?"
"You! You know more about me than you let on, don't you? You know who did this to me! Tell me who it was!" Diel drew his swords and slashed the poe again and again. The poe had turned itself intangible, however, and his blades passed straight through it. So Diel just stood there, slashing away at the poe until he would wear himself out. Tears poured down his face all the while. When he finally ran out of energy, he collapsed on the ground, defeated.
"It seems you need more help than I had thought... The poe said to Diel. Diel seemed to have calmed down now. Slowly, the golden amulet around his neck started to glow and he transformed, his body covered in a golden light. He emerged a Keaton fox who wore a collar with the same amulet around its neck. Diel would remember the poe's final words before he fell into unconsciousness; "Just remember: The truth you seek will come at great cost."

Ebony rushed out of the fortress, searching for Diel. Unfortunately, she had lost him. "Now, where did he go?" She saw a bright flash of light coming from somewhere near a vast, green field. Curious as her nature was, she headed over to see what it was. To her surprise, she found a yellow fox with multiple tails. "The heck? What is this thing?" She thought aloud.
Ivory flew up beside her again. "It looks like some sort of fox, but I've ever seen a fox with more than a single tail on its hide." She muttered. Then, she spotted the amulet around the fox's neck. "Strange. This looks familiar for some reason." Ivory flew up closer to get a better look.
Ebony tilted her head to the side. "You think this animal belongs to someone around here?" She thought of the various possibilities. "Maybe it ran away." She suggested.
Ivory shrugged her intangible shoulders. "Well, whatever happened, the poor thing looks exhausted. Think we should take him somewhere to rest?" She floated back over to her sister. "Hmm... The flash of light came from this position, right? I wonder what happened here? Did someone get into a fight with this wolf? That Diel guy did say the gerudo specialized in magic. Maybe he passed through here." Ivory thought.
Ebony sighed. She hated when she had to do manual labor, such as lifting things. Though, it wasn't like Ivory could help at all, being a spirit. "Well, I guess we can't just leave the poor thing here." She slowly made her way over to the keaton and knelt down. She ignored the knowledge that this fox was going to be extremely heavy, due to the dead weight of it being unconcious.

While Diel was unconscious, he had a dream. He was back at his home in his own time. He was training with his teacher, a Gerudo master of the sword. Diel had been knocked down in combat.
"All right, enough for today. You did well, Diel. But you're still a thousand years too young to defeat me." His instructor said with a wink. She then exited the room in a flash by jumping op to the ceiling and using the rafters to make her escape.
Agitated, Diel had gotten up, grumbling. It was then he was lifted to his feet by someone.
"Need a hand?" A familiar voice had said.
"... Thank you, Mizura." Diel smiled at his fiance.
"Diel... Do you really think it's okay to let our guards down for the wedding? After all, so many people are going to be there, and-"
"Mizura, relax. No matter what happens I swear I will always be here to protect you. I promise." Diel reassured her.
Mizura seemed to be troubled with something still, but she shook it off and smiled.
"I've never doubted that before..." She cooed in his ear.
Diel had noticed something back then. This was not a dream, but a memory. There was something about Mizura's smile... It seemed to... almost be hiding something at the time, he had thought.
No... that's impossible... Diel dismissed the thought.
... I promise... I promise... The words repeated in his mind over and over.
(Bum bum bum-bum-bum-bum! Totally epic music!)

Ebony had managed to somehow pick the keaton up and carry it to the nearest house she could find, which just happened to be a ranch. The people there seemed nice enough. They let her set Diel down on some hay in the horse stables. However, they weren't just going to let a keaton fox stay in their stables without being watched. Ebony had to stay there until it awoke.
(And, I think I'm going to bed for the night. I is just a little tired.)

Diel woke from his peaceful slumber. It was a very strange feeling. He was comfortable in his dream, everything was familiar; he was in the desert, he could feel his body asleep in its usual bed, the desert night's cool air flowing into the room with the sound of the wind not far away.
When he came to his senses... it was miserable. He smelled a strange aroma he had not witnessed before; the smell of cows and horses and bales of hay. On top of that his body felt different as well. What was this strange feeling beyond his back? Did... did he have... tails?!
Diel shot up. He looked down at his paws and around the barn. Nothing was familiar, in fact, he would be surprised if he weren't dreaming. Frantically, he sniffed the ground-almost out of instinct it seemed in search of some form of normalcy.
(Oh dear... Ever wake up after a long journey and think you're back in your own bed before you come to your senses? Yeah, that's what's going on with Diel, only on a much more severe scale).

Ebony looked over at Diel warily. Sure, it was all well and good to drag an exhausted animal to somewhere it could rest, but what about when it finally woke up? "Perhaps this isn't one of my better ideas." She thought to herself. Ebony swallowed and slowly stepped closer to Diel. "Hello there. Are you hurt?" She asked. She knew animals could sense fear, so she tried to stay as calm as possible.

Diel looked up at the girl... E... Eb... Ebony! Her name was Ebony.
Suddenly it all came back to Diel. How he had woken up, leaving the temple, talking to the elders. They must have wound up here somehow.
But why am I a- ... what am I, anyway?
Diel looked around for water, a mirror, anything that could show him his reflection.
