I switched out the ribbons in my old dress for orange ones for a Halloween photoshoot. What bothers me is the black lipstick. Artistically, it's great in this shot, but I'm not sure how "lolita" it is. Usually I'm more concerned with a good final product than whether or not something follows a standard, but I'm not sure if this is too much even for goth loli. Wait, Mana wears black lipstick. What am I worried about? The problem is that this was shot right up my petticoat and the skirt looks waaay to short. sweatdrop

Though I suggest you get a pattern because pre-measured wedges are easier to use. Personally, I think jumperskirts and high-waisted skirts are easier to sew than normal skirts, because you have something to gather the waist into.

Kittywitch Wait, Mana wears black lipstick. What am I worried about? Lol possibly the fact that he has a professional makeup team and photoshop professionals to lighten his skin tone enough to pull it off. Black lipstick is usually a faux pas in Lolita because it tends to make people look tacky

Lolita Kana- I find it's also become a bit frowned upon in the gothic community as well, partially because it gives the impression of trying too hard, partially because it isn't attractive (the best it can be is aesthetic), and partially because of the Marilyn Manson associations. But I kinda like it. It's retro. People just wore in for formalwear in the fifties.

I went to Oni-con 2009 on Halloween, then spent the evening with my boyfriend handing out candy. I was a Gothic Vampire Princess, though I took the blouse off after the convention, because it was DAMN hot for October [85 degress, wtf!]. More photos are available on EGL and my personal journal.
The truth has come out, however. I'm no Elegant Gothic Lolita Vampire Aristocrat after all ... I'm a lame Toilet Twinkle Twilight vampire. :<

Here we have me at Bakarestu on All Hallow's day, wearing a steam-powered dress. The addition of the ribbons, goggles and cravat really helped, I think.

CATSUITS! Kittywitch http://th08.deviantart.net/fs50/300W/i/2009/307/9/d/Steampunk_Lolita_by_Kittywitchthesecond.jpg Here we have me at Bakarestu on All Hallow's day, wearing a steam-powered dress. The addition of the ribbons, goggles and cravat really helped, I think. I LOVE THIS! It's fantastic. Where'd you get everything? Let's see... I got the cream fabric, the brown fabric, the lace used in the cravat, the ribbons and the buttons at Joann's fabric; the boots I found in my barn. I bought the goggles at a show, which was odd considering the theme for the show was medieval. I bought the gloves at a Scifi convention, but I think that little stall was an estate sale of some sort. The cameo I got at a salvage place in Rhode Island, and it's got an antiqued picture of Dracula in it. That's just my standard white petticoat under there. I used two modified historical patterns, one from Simplicity and one from McCalls. Which was a pain, as the Simplicity one was for children to fourteen; and the McCalls one was for size sixteen women. gonk
