It was around this time Ruin's lesser planar ally returned to him. It reveals to Ruin that beyond the portal lies another forest clearing, containing several other portal structures. In the distance there was some kind of fort or castle towering above the trees. The sprite would also reveal that there were Arian soldiers in the clearing but it could not get a clear count as it was chased back through the portal by some giant metal construct that seemed to have the ability to see it. It did note the atmosphere beyond the gate seemed chaotic, with the fleeing soldiers briefing those beyond the gate. However, the Arians did seem like they were beginning to reorganize. How long that would take was up in the air. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Petra
Basilisk Girl Back at the wagons, with Kuori's words as encouragement, Petra approaches the three soldiers and the two rescued children. Arthur remains nearby but it seems Petra wants to do this by herself. As she walks towards them she lowers her cowl, revealing her reptilian features. Her glimmering red eyes remained fixed to the earth. As she stops in front of the guards her whole body is shaking. "I...I... I just want to say how sorry I am! I-I really am sorry. I know it is all my fault. If I didn't turn people to stone, none of this would have happened. I-I wish I'd had better control over my power but I didn't, and now you are all involved. Aria made me as I am, but I don't want to use that as an excuse. I... If there is anything I can do to make it up to you, please let me know." Tears well up in Petra's eyes as she speaks. Kuori is reminded of her first encounter with the basilisk girl. It must have taken a similar amount of courage to approach them then. The rescued boy moves up to Petra and tries to look her in eyes. "Hey... I'm not mad that you turned me to stone, honest! I know it was an accident. I'm just glad you rescued us. I don't know what they planned to do to me and my sister, but it couldn't have been good. The way they treated us... it was like we weren't even people. I know my sister might be scared of you, but as far as I'm concerned they're the monsters, not you!"The guard captain lets out a sigh. "I understand your situation, but that doesn't really help us. What do we do now? It's obvious to me we're in way over our heads. If Aria is coming for us, how do we stop them? We all have families you know."It was at this point Fumiyo would chime in. "Leave that bit to me. I'm afraid you can't go back to Gladesdale, but I will help you and your families relocate to a place safe from Aria's reach. Once we disable their portal, I will find a suitable amount of shadow to teleport us all to safety."

"Renewing our abilities, isn't such a bad idea..." Ruin would silence himself and close his eyes as he listened to Vi's definition of the other side, before opening them and shift his sight to Twyla and Revenge. "Sylvia, do you have anything to make a golden tongued gnome, and a champion for peace even more likable?"
"If our overall goal, is to destroy the gate, not the fight it self. Why not ask her to let us destroy it?" Ruin would continue to explain, "As Revenge pointed out, some soldiers may not know where our power comes from, and if worded just right, may be sickened to learn Arian's involvement."

"What, that tall person?" Revenge would ask, turning his gaze from the scene unfolding with Petra towards the gate.
"I don't know, without some sort of magical enchantment, it's not quite that simple to change a person's mind so quickly. It's better to talk to them to realize there's another choice than the one's they've selected, and then decide for themselves. Most of the Arians I've encountered so far were quite unwilling to even try to have a dialogue. It doesn't help that she's already been engaged once with ill intent."
Reaching up and rubbing one of his horns, he'd add, "I don't like the idea of magical compulsion to recruit people to our side. That's a morally gray area and not quite as distinct from the villains as I would care for, personally." He'd look to Twyla now, and tack on a "Sorry."

"Engaged, and retreated... And I am not talking about enchantments, but enhancements(bonus to diplomancy rolls or Charisma score) to your personalities..." Quote: "Excuse me," he would say once more, this time to the mages he approached cautiously while trying to seem relaxed. "I couldn't help but notice that you're rather outnumbered. Would you consider ending hostilities and we can talk this through like civilized humanoids?" He would grip the haft of his halberd with his left hand, keeping the base planted on the ground, gesturing with his right hand openly. "I'll see to it that no harm will come to you if you surrender." "And even if she is unwilling to exchange in dialogue, that didn't seem to stop you from trying before."

"Don't worry, Ruin, I knew what you meant. I meant that short of dominating her mind against her will, I'm not expectant that any mere exchange of words will do the trick."
Looking off in the distance, towards the gate. "Don't get me wrong, I had intended to try regardless."

From his squatting position Valac would pipe up, "If the goal is to destroy the gate then I think there's enough of us just to at least distract her while the rest of us work on the portal."

"I can't magically compel anyone! I'm just cute, is all!" Twyla would turn her head from Revenge, mock offended. "But we can still see what Miss Sylvia has. The person at the gate's probably got at least half a brain if she wouldn't abandon her post. Maybe she can be reasoned with. And if not... well, if we're all there together, maybe we'll do all right against her." She looked doubtfully at Valac, though. She had no way to heal him left without resting. Hopefully Sylvia could really help him if needed.
She paused a moment. "Miss Ramona is beginning to worry me about what might come through the gate. I guess we shouldn't wait, after all, and should act now."
((Twyla votes to mobilize our people now--PCs and NPCs--and march on the gate together. First mission: diplomacy! Failing that, fight!))

Ramon was beginning to look a bit annoyed. "That is what I have been saying. Look Sylvia will patch you up and we'll march over there right now, before they have a chance to cook up something to use against us. We'll let you guys try your talking gambit and then we'll take out the gate."
Sylvia puts down her bag an carefully pulls out five vials of a glowing reddish liquid and offers them to the party. "U-uh, these are some healing potions I made. It is my own special formula. They are a little more powerful then what you can commonly find on the market." She would timidly look at the bloody mess that was Valac and seemed to get a bit intimidated. "I-It might take a few to patch you all the way up."

((This is post 7 of resting, idk how many rounds we skipped to have people meet up or to close the gap on the gate since its actually further away ...))
Kuori continues adding fletchings to her special arrows. She watches to others continuing to move down towards the gate.
"I really think we should stop them Fumiyo. I'm not about to pretend Aria is stupid enough to let one guard hold a gate on their own. Something is majorly off here. They send 50+ soldiers to capture two of you, hundreds to capture a group of you, and Gladesdale was just one of many towns with a contingency of how many guards in it? This is a trap."

Valac would hold out a hand for the potions that Sylvia was offering to be placed in looking annoyed to be accepting help.

"Just let Twyla, Revenge, and I go first, "Ruin said, as he took Sylvia's potion. "If we need your might, we will send a flare, promise." He finished; knowing he preferred the demi's staying as far away from that gate a possible.
Bluff +14 ... he isn't going to summon them but, they don't need to know that...

Twyla gratefully accepts two potions. "One for me, one for..." She paused, glancing at Revenge and Valac. "One for whoever else needs it! If anyone gets knocked out, I'll rush it over to them."

Fumiyo would ponder Kouri's words for a moment before responding. "One guard is a bit curious, but I believe if Aria currently the ability to seize any of us, then they would have already acted. Still, it would be bad if they did manage to drag one of us through the gate. I shall monitor the situation and move anyone to safety as needed. We need that gate destroyed so I have time to evacuate the people at risk of vanishing out of Gladesdale. I wonder though, how they are getting these large stone portal gates in place in secret. I highly doubt they are being built on site." In a puff smoke Fumiyo blinks away and vanishes from sight. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ramona would cross her arms she didn't look happy aobut the request but would otherwise acquiesce. "I'll give you guys your chance to talk but If I see anything start to go down. We're coming in. I have my orders after all. That gate needs to come down." Sylvia hands two potions to Valac and allows Ruin and Twyla to take the rest. The Demi humans still approach closer to the the gate but they stay a safe distance back to allow the party to attempt negotiations. (The demi-humans are out of earshot and would take a round or two to reach the gate if battle was to begin.) For those who approach the gate they would see a single tall goliath woman in Arian garb. Shockingly, she bears an uncanny resemblance to Kuori, though she looks a few years younger. Her leather armor is different from the other Arian soldiers, leaving her midriff strangely exposed. Across her abdomen she has a large horizontal scar that runs completely from one side to the other. The scar looks to be bleeding a bit. The goliath woman is armed with a bow and arrow and a spear. As the group approaches she stands directly in front of the portal and brandishes her spear. "I will state this again as I did to the stupid one. Approach this gate and I will slay you. Otherwise, begone. I have no fight with you unless you make one. Do not let your superior numbers fool you. I am more than a match for all of you!"
