lyssan chuckles sourly... guard yer secrets well, kerobian... i trust her.. within limits only... so what should we do with her fella anyway... just then the stable master shows up in the garden, armed with his pitchfork....
m'lady he wheezes... stumbling to a halt.... the lads tell me we've another nightmare to contend with...........

what have i told the two of ye about waiting until dinner.... champhy is demanding... but her voice is worried and has little of it's usual rancor....
averus jumps then turns with a start... ma... ummmm... shia was hungry.... and i... i....
said you had made oatmeal cookies just this morning... adds shia smoothly with a grin... so i told him we needed to check and make sure all the weevils were out of your flour....
averus turns to stare at her while champhy does a double take.... she narrows her gaze on her son but he merely looks uncomfortable and sheepish... no defiance there btw....
shia take a big bite of cooke and nods... yep... they're all gone... great cookie btw, champhy... really moist and chewy... don't ye think so, averus?
averus nods vigorously... yes... ye've outdone yerself, ma... they're really good.....
champhy sighs and ushers them out... but not without another good look at averus... she seems taken aback by his behavior....

I have a name, you know...and it's not "mage"...it's Kero...and as for your son, while I did deage him, the transformation was his own doing...all I did was show him the end of the path he was taking...he did the rest on his own...

Had he been too far gone, I wouldn't have wasted my energy, except to save my apprentice...I can read souls, Champhy...you need to shape up a bit, by the way...don't know what you're doing, but you need to stop...and I knew he was still salvageable...though he could use a dose of the soup ladle...I've scared him into good behavior...Once I leave with Shia again...welll....I don't know....he may be an angel...he may not be....he needs his mother, though...more than anything else.

champhy tosses her head and smiles wickedly... what have i been up to... why i've been the soul of perfection i have.... then she laughs and shrugs... i'm no angel... but neither am i evil, m'sirra.... let's leave it at that... lyssie asks only that i watch over her kingdom when she and amestru are gone and keep her people safe... and iffin that means i must do things she may not approve of... well then we simply do not tell of those things... have i made meself clear?
