I generally don't reveal my age, and people in RL know better than to judge me. I've recently (very recently) become 'legal' and I don't believe in bullshitting children, that includes censorship. If you're old enough to enquire, you are old enough to learn, and if you're not old enough to understand you don't understand, do you? Some would call that harsh, but restricted information = bad. Especially about sexuality. Even if it's unrealistic, people need exposure.

Thank you! heart
They stick warning labels and plastic wrap all over the yaoi, but there's LOTS of manga where there's full FEMALE nudity on like every page (Like Love Hina...Not that I don't adore that series.) and do they plastic wrap and restrict that? No, I don't think so. I think they're meanies, the publishing companies.
But then again, the policers would be all over them if they didn't...

I got into yaoi because I randomly clicked on naruto fic on ff.com lols. Ive previously had ALOT of gay friends ((although im straight)) so ive always been a big supporter of gay pride ^-^.
I am 13 and proud ^-^ be nice if I was "legal" though sweatdrop
The heart started at 11. cool
I feel I am mature enough to deal with the things in yaoi.
I dont think there is a specific age when someone should be allowed to see content, I think at all depends on the person, the persons life, and their matrurity/whether they can handle it.
People/fans who annoy me are those who are EXTREMLEY illiterate and bashers/flamers.
I am both a Squeeeeee whee fan and a mature one 3nodding ((For ex. I would squee very loudly and fangirlish when L takes a bite of cake or strawberry whee 3nodding xd ))
Fluff should be a genre.
So should hardcore xd

lol I was reading lemons, even beastiality, at 12, so not really...

I got into Boy Love when I was 10 or 11, I think... yeah. I'm sure I'm mature about most aspects of BL... but then again, I'm only 15, and I'm just acting like a kid most of the time... mainly to belie my maturity. sweatdrop

I read my first yaoi fanfiction when I was, what, 11? Something like that, and you could say that I've never looked back since. Once you pop, you can't stop, and all that.

I don't think there should be an age limit, not at all. You can't judge things like that on age- I'm almost 16 now, and a lot of my friends would be completely shocked if they knew the type of stuff I've been reading for the last 5 years. xD

[I was eleven and just getting into anime (Digimon, at the time XD) and I already knew what s/a yaoi was, but I wasn't interested.]
[But, then I saw a very adorable pic (On a site that wasn't even bl, strangely enough) and was addicted ever since.]
[At the time, I never posted, so there were no issues with my age, and now there are no problems, either.]
[I don't think there is really a maturity "age", some people are mature enough at 12, and some only really are when they're, like, 20]
[I'm more a SQUEE! type, but I hold it in, and I much prefer fluff (Prolly because I was pretty young when I started liking it, and I naturally liked fluff immediately)]

Well, like english is not my main language, I'm gonna try to explain this sweatdrop

I don't remember when I discovered the great world of yaoi, but I think that I had 13 or 14 years old.
I started in Fanfiction.net, spanish section. And I read a lot of fanfics with fluff, fluff, and more fluff xD
Later I read more, and more, and not fluff only, noooo, quickly I put myself in M section (that in Fanfiction.net is full of NC-17) and... I never had stopped.
So, I'm actually a BIG fan of yaoi, and I'm near to 17 years old! so i'm going to be a legal girl!
A big amount of yaoi fans hace started under the age limits, people just skip that, or lie at the moment of make an account. If you think that are mature enough, so what's the problem?

I'm not legal yet, but i'm 15 and i do love reading some M rated yaoi mangas. i've been into yaoi for two to three years. to me, yaoi just comes naturally and once you love yaoi, its hard to not love it. everyday i try so hard to not even think of yaoi, but its kinda hard >.<

Well, to start off with I turn 19 in a few days and I was dragged into shounen-ai when I was 11-12 (I specify "shounen-ai" because I didn't get into the more hardcore stuff until I actually hit puberty and gained hormones). As for how I got into? The blame rests completely on the shoulders of my older friends.

I used to be very shy, and found the idea of relationships/romance to be terrifying and embarrassing. But I had friends who were 1-2 years older than me and got into the yaoi scene through their (and not much later mine as well) love of anime/manga, and they decided they needed to spread the love. My first reactions were, in order, blank confusion because no one had ever introduced me to the concept of same sex pairings before, then complete horror.
Thankfully, my friends persisted in their attempts to make me at least accept the idea by making really bad jokes about the boys from my favorite TV show of that time (Gundam Wing, FWY), and directing my attention to fluff filled oneshot fanfics. It worked, and through my own exploration of the various pairings and fandoms I've become quite the fanatic. ;D I tend to prefer down-to-earth pairings, or ridiculous crack!pairings, as I still generally despise romance (with some exceptions, like in everything). I can only take so much fluffy, sugary nonsense before feeling physically ill, and when I read porn I like it to be descriptive (though if something is obviously anatomically impossible or just strikes me as weird, it can kill the whole thing). My fetishes are varied, though fairly tame, and vary from pairing to presentation.

I've never been discriminated against because of my age, to my knowledge, but that's quite possibly because in those first few years I kept myself out of the actual internet community, or just never gave my age in those few moments of interaction. I'd be pretty amused to find someone who thought I wasn't old enough/mature enough to deal, and I'd laugh my a** off if I found someone who thought I was too old to be into this kind of thing.

As for what age I consider "mature enough"? I couldn't say. Maturity levels vs. age vary from person to person so much that I dislike generalizing, though I'd tell anyone under fifteen to avoid porn just on basic principal. I think you're mature enough when you don't become irrational about various parts of fandom, whether it be a pairing you don't like or a character you love and think can do no wrong. If you're going to shout someone down and insult them simply because they have a difference of opinion, then I'd appreciate it if you'd get the hell out of my fandom until you learn to accept that everyone's entitled to their own ideas. Go ahead and argue your point, if you'd like, but keep it rational, logical, and lacking in capslock abuse and general abuse of the English language (or whatever language you happen to be arguing in).

Places like Y!Gallery have very good reasons for their 18+ rule, though some of their other decisions are questionable, and as annoying as it was to not be able to view the more risque pictures without an account I coped.

I...would like to say that I hold myself with dignity and pride at all times, but that would be a damn dirty lie. I may usually try for a little bit of decorum in my behavior, but when convention time rolls around and passerby get a free show I can drool, squeal, and catcall with the best of them.
-------------
Holy crap, wall of text. I blame no one who simply skips over this.

ive been a fan around the ages of 10-11
i got into it when my sister (4 years older) told me she read a manga that was really good called Gravitation (i only recently actually read that) and i went on youtube and typed it in to see if there was an anime to go with it and sure enough there was (oh happy day.... yeah) and thats when it all started. after that, it was my SasuNaru obsession and Junjou Romantica etc...
so concludes the legacy of my yaoi/shonen ai love

I was in 7th grade when I was first introduced to it though a friend (she tried to convince me to read YuGiOh! slash) I remember refusing. Actually, I remember saying "That's disgusting!"

I ended up reading the fanfiction (I think it was Yugi/Yami, and I wanted to know how in the hell they managed to pair the same person together.) I still kind of like YuGiOh! because it was my first BL fandom. Then I went through pretty much every anime/book/movie I liked looking for shonen-ai fanfic. I still obeyed age warnings back then, though I bought Gravitation and the first volume of FAKE.

It was at 14-5 that I was most vocal about my yaoi obsession. This yaoi stuff was new and exciting! I told my mum that I liked shonen-ai, I read yaoi at school and tried to get my friends to like it. I remember writing a story about two boys that fell in love for class. I was a bit of a prat, actually.

Anyway, I was reading 18+ stuff at around the age of 15-16, and I calmed down a bit. It took me a while to actually read some stuff. I'd be reading a story, and as soon as it started to go in a direction I'd never read before, I'd close the window, embarrassed, even if no one was home. I'd mull it over for a few days, then go back and finish reading it. By the time I was like 16 and a half, I had read pretty much every kink there is. Looking back, I was probably too young to read that sort of stuff, but there's not back I can do about that now. I met one of my best friends, Ju, who's also into yaoi, and we used to glee together and share fanfic and manga. She bought me Waru for my 17th birthday.

When I turned 17 I sort of left the anime community, but my obsession with homosexual couples didn't end, it just transferred itself to the western media I was now watching, and so I became a slash fan, still reading the same 18+ stuff. I was still friends with Ju, and still read a bit of manga, and we'd still glee (more over Queer as Folk).

And now I'm getting back into anime/yaoi. The irony is that now that I'm of legal age to read mature fanfiction, I'd rather read a story that focuses on the relationship rather than the sex. Go figure. rolleyes

lol I don't think half of us (not specifically in this guild) are legal enough to read yaoi. nonetheless it's really interesting to answer a thought out ... question(s?)

I'm 16 on to 17 for one thing.
I was actually googling pictures of Tsukasa from Juvenile Orion when I found an Ayase (from Okane ga Nai) pic. That got me curious. That got me into yaoi. And somehow after reading some more [better] yaois, I now rather dislike Okane ga Nai. Strange neh?
It was also then that I discovered a paradise index called "Yaoisuki.net". Now it's taken off the internet, but it was like THE place to go for information on quite a lot of yaois. That's where I found Junjou Romantica, Loveless, etc. etc. (Actually I finished reading Loveless before finding yaoisuki.net) Unfortunately something happened to the website. So it was all thanks to that website, google, and Borders (a bookstore in my city) that I was exposed to this ... aw... addiction(?). Personally i dont like fanfics... they always seem kind of ... fake. But I do love fanart. Oooh do I love fanart ^^
Now in terms of maturity and all that stuff. I KNOW that I am NOT mature enough even though there are 11-yr-olds and 13-yr-olds who've read yaoi. Why because my head gets dirty thoughts, I can't think straight, and I screw up in school. Oh and both of my parents are anti-gay. I have several friends who are totally against yaoi. I have a small portion of friends who are semi-OK with yaoi. And I'm pretty sure all of the adults and teachers I know would not approve of me reading yaoi. (But then again, I'm turning 18 next year.... they should trust me!)
[Back to the first post]
Hell yeah I'm pissed! Not so much as Y!Gallery (because i've never heard of it). But because of YaoiCon... I live like less than 1 mile AWAY from the convention and I can't go!!!! evil
Yessss... I am a very much "squeeaaalllll" type of yaoi fangirl. I even whee in real life. I've quite a few pretty boys I know and I like to slash them right there irl. It's funny. Especially when considering some of them are already close friends and they go all "ewww" at me but THEN the small portion of yaoi fangirls/boys (yay! this year I know one freshman who is tolerant of yaoi) are all okay with it and stuff. (Oh shoot now I'm rambling).
I don't like massively hardcore stuff but I DO love anything that makes my heart pound, my palms sweat, my eyes bulge, and my nerves numb (i.e. loving rape xD). And I love suggestive moments in "normal" mangas/animes. I love tentacle rape for some reason though... as long as the p**** heads/tips aren't too visible >.> stare I love incest, especially twincest, too. In the beginning, I liked ukes that are extremely girlie and stuff but now, I absolutely despise that. It takes away from the boyxboy... if the uke is far too femme, I'd consider it normal shojo fluff love but the girl has a p****. Yeah... odd quirks. Then again I don't like muscular ukes either. In fact, I don't like super muscular ukes OR semes. I like some pretty semes too ^^. Oh right regarding fanart all of a sudden. I hate, hate, hate it when the artist makes a guy the uke and the guy/uke looks like a freakin' girl! That's an insult to the mangaka- not a salute of fandomism (is that a word?) I mean don't attach a big a** or 2in eyelashes to the uke person or add 10 packs to the one being the seme. It's just... insulting.

*rants on but can't think of anything else to say*
