Balcerzak Hello all. Name's John, but call me Balcerzak (or some clever nickname you derive from that). I graduated with a BA in physics from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2005, and am currently enrolled in a graduate program at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, with the goal of attaining my Ph.D. I've finished my first year of graduate classes (which included Electrodynamics by J.D. Jackson), passed my qualifying exams, and am currently trying to figure out who exactly I want as my advisor. I've been spending the summer in Geneva, working at CERN on the ATLAS detector, doing assembly and commisioning of the Muon Drift Tube chambers into sectors, for their eventual mounting on the end-cap wheel. It's been fun and interesting, and I'll probably end up joining the project. I... want... your... job. that's so awsome. >.<

Hello. My name is Aaron and I live in Jacksonville, Florida. I'm 19 years old. I was pulled out of school at the end of the fifth grade because my parents became psychotic church people and thought I was going to be tainted by the evil american school system. So I almost completely missed out on the basics of mathematics and sciences.
However, I was always a bright student and I retained what I knew. That coupled with the fact that my grandparents had bought me a 2 year subscription to Astonomy magazine and Sky and Telescope, is the reason I became enthused with astronomy and astrophysics. I don't know all of the higher mathematics involved in the latter field, but I understand the concepts nonetheless. (If you say that the star does x because of y which results with z, it still makes sense to me.) I've been slacking the past few years because of turmoil in my life, so I'm glad I can come in here and pick it up again.
I currently own a 7 1/2 inch reflector telescope that was built by one of the guys on the team that designed and built the Hubble Space Telescope. (He's my grandpa's friend. His name is Pete something. I met him once, he's a real dork. (Not a bad thing in my book.)) It's a pretty dull-looking, white newtonian, cast-iron heap of a scope, but it performs admirably.
I obtained my GED last year.. it was an embarrasingly easy test. I'm currently in the employ of UPS and live on my own. College is an unattainable goal at the moment as not only do I not have the academic prerequisites, but I have no money! So don't expect much in the way of mathematics in my posts. I don't try to act smarter than I am.
When I'm not working or sleeping, I'm either on Gaia, drawing, watching Fullmetal Alchemist, hanging out with dumb party teens (my friends), or listening to music. I'm not known to be very spontaneous. I'm kind of a buzzkill at times because I think things through thoroughly before I make a decision. Yet get me intoxicated and... wait, I'm still cautious and think alot... never mind.
Anyway's that's my background relating to the guild!

Greetings. My name is Aki and I live in Finland. This is my last year in high school right now so gratuating awaits with good grades hopefully. Mostly mathematics interests me, but physics is also extremely interesting subject. In physics I like especially entropy in thermodynamics, but sadly we don't have it in basic courses so I have to find out correct information by myself. And right now I don't have anything special to tell so I'll leave this message like this.

Hello there my name is Matt, I am starting college next week, I passed physics with flying colours, and have continued to use my summer to learn as much as possible about the subject, currently I am reading In Search of Schrodinger's Cat, I would definently recomend it to anyone.

Hello! My name is Ian, and although I am not overly skilled in mathematics or physics, I have an insatiable desire to learn more about them; I was first intrigued when a friend of mine in Canada graduated and got hired on to CERN, and started rambling to me, although I confess my own interest stems mostly from a love of geology and astronomy when I was younger that's never died out.
I hope to be able to contribute something to discussion, while learning myself. Nice to meet you all!

Hello everyone. My name is Anna, and I live in LA. I haven't learned very much about physics, but I look forward to it this year. I love mathematics, and unfortunately, I'm only in the 8th grade so I'm in Geometry this year. I aced Algebra 1 last year, and I'm eager to learn more about math and definently more about physics, so I can graduate and hopefully go to Harvard.
I'm open to any kind of tips for physics, as I'll need all the help I can get.
Thank you! biggrin

Hi, my name is not important (im quite paranoid about stuff like that. I am 14 years and 348 days old (I'm probably the youngest on this guild) I'm currently in high school, obviously and have an interest in physics and.....well not so much in maths but hey! I am in the second to top set in maths and for no apparent reason am not allowed to move up a set in science despite having great grades. I'm not a genius, although my brothers think so and my idol is Albert Einstein. Not much else to say, sorry if this was an inadequate introduction.

I am a sophmore at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. I am currently majoring in math, but I am not far, because I took a break in math after I took Analytic Geometry (Hated the professor with a passion!). I am loving Cal I even though My book weighs way too much. I am a member of the local chapter of the math club. I will probably end up being the vice president (seeing as I am the only person qualified out of the four people in it). I can not wait to get into physics... But Cal I is a prerequisate so I must be patient. I also quite enjoy logic (yes it is a math at my college) even though I am not so great at it. I LOVE MATH JOKES... SO IF YOU GOT THEM SEND THEM TO ME!!! domokun

Hi everyone! I'm Jessica, but you can call me Jess if you like. I'm a physics student in my last year of undergrad. I've been interested in physics - and science in general - since I was very small. I became interested in physics through long rambling conversations with my dad and my brother, in which we pondered the nature of the universe and the meaning of life. Not surprisingly, my first interests were cosmology, relativity and subatomic physics.
My tastes have changed since then - I've become a lot more down-to-earth. I'd like to use my physics background to do work in environmental science. At this point, though, I'm not really sure what that would entail, so I need to do some reasearch: what exactly do environmental scientists do? How could I make myself useful?
Of course, I still wonder about the big questions, the really shiny stuff. What shape is the universe? What about time travel? Is faster-than-light travel really impossible? Heh, maybe I ought to re-read the special relativity section in my Modern Physics textbook.
Oh, and I'm taking Quantum 1 this term. I expect I will have lots of questions to ask.

HELLO!! My name is Jonny and I'm 19. I am attending a community college and I am currently enrolled in calculus 2. I took high school physics and liked it, but I forgot a lot of that. I considered taking physics as my science class, but so far the times it is offered don't work for me. =(
I don't know many people who like math. Most of my close friend are in a lower math and ask for my help, and is feels great helping them. Don't get me wrong, however, I don't consider myself a math genious at all. But maybe some day I will. hehe.
Other than that my interest are Anime, movies, watching plays, becoming environmentally aware, and simply hanging out with friend (beach, mall, houses,ect...). I also want to learn to make an outfit for myself, but I need money before I can do that. $ $ $ $ $ xd

My name is Alan. I am 17 years old and in high school. I do not have much of a background in physics or math, but am interested in both subjects.
My interests include chemistry and neuroscience. I would like to major in a neuro related field, most likely neurochemistry.
Since I am not too learned on physics or math, merely the things I have gone and researched and learned on my own, don't expect to much input from me. I will definitely be reading a lot of the discussions though, they seem quite interesting.

My name....they call me Jed. Um....I go to Weber State University. It's nice... Physics...ok, I dont really understand a life without Physics or science. I've read a lot books on it, but I believe in teaching yourself. So, I'm in Physics for more of the philosophy of the subject. So, don't expect much math from me. Don't get me wrong, I love math, it's just becomes tideous to me. I can understand anything you tell me, dont be afraid of my incompitance. I suprise myself sometimes! That's about it. mrgreen

Hello everyone, my username is Leanadrold. I am currently a senior in highschool and basically I've already finished my AP Physics course around my junior year and right now I'm independently studying Calculus Physics, which is interesting if I might add. I'm mostly interested in the Electrical part of Physics.
I'm also doing some research about the gravitational influences that the earth's gravitational field has and I also have dabbled a little bit of Quantum Mechanics with the resources I can get my hands on. I'm hoping to gain more knowledge as I progress and also be able to contribute to this guild.

leanandrold I've already finished my AP Physics course around my junior year and right now I'm independently studying Calculus Physics. I wish my high school had that course... I would have studied it on my own if I had more time. And Calculus Physics sounds very interesting to me, too... wow. Don't forget to have fun your senior year, too!! 3nodding
