I regret telling ya that I have a couple o' people that made me sad when they died. The people are:
Kikyo(Inuyasha)
Suikotsu(Inuyasha)
Jiraiya(Naruto)
Gaara(Naruto)

I wish Tsuzuki and Hisoka and Watari from YnM didn't have to die, except otherwise they wouldn't be the characters they are...
to be brutally honest I can't think on an anime that I've seen that kills off a loved and main character, but I have the very same feeling for many many books.

Leutenant Mu La Flaga from Gundam seed. I was all, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!" Cause he died to save the entire Arc Angel from destruction. It was so heroic, but right after him and Captain Ramius FINALY got together. crying
