Small concern broke in to much larger concern, but she managed to keep her composure, if only barely. "Oh. That complicates things. So let me see if I understand this correctly. You do not believe we can stop you, but for the sake of losses you are offering to let us go without a fight. It wouldn't matter if we came back with more troops because your ritual will have been complete and you will be long gone. But our companions have already been trapped in that ritual. There is no way to get them back, dead or alive, without breaking the whole thing. That about right?"

"I... may have been hasty in my explanation. It's just that my companion is a powerful maho-tsukai. I don't think two of your friends could have stopped him. But I could be wrong in that regard. Truthfully, I'm mostly the muscle of the group. I keep order when the buke show up."
"You are a Kitsuki, let me present you the facts, as far as I know them. My companion told me either two things are possible - either he will return shortly after his departure - something that has not happened - or he will return when a corresponding amount of time passes between his arrival, the creation of, and the securing of the nemurani he intends to create has passed in his time. Which is the reason we are camped here, waiting for his return."
"But he did give us specific instructions, to stay out of the city at night. You see, the ritual is already complete. There is nothing to stop. Your group's presence might have created complications which we cannot account for, not without our maho-tsukai to divine the facts of this matter."
"I have no idea what your two companions have done to complicate the ritual. We may never see any of them again. But one thing is clear: You remaining in the city creates greater and greater risk to our mission."
"That is why you must leave. Forget your allies. You have my word that when our maho-tsukai returns, we will leave peacefully."
He would take one - and only one - step closer to Masuyo. "I don't care as much about losses. They are my companion's cultists, not mine. I no longer desire to march against you in fear of further complicating the ritual. But I will if you do not leave."

Mentally, Kojiro was weighing things. As he saw it, his duties were the following. 1) Find and bring to justice those that had sacrificed Asako Shisui. 2) Find Miya-chan and Ujina-san. 3) Stop them from creating their Nerumanai 4) Inform the Magistrates of what occurred here.
Kojiro was pretty sure that the Magistrates would prefer that they exhaust all options for the first three before moving onto 4. "All I can say is that we are here at the behest of our superiors to complete a specific mission. Ideally, it should not take much longer than night fall. Once we have completed this mission, we would have no need to remain here. Is that acceptable?" There was a lot to take in very quickly. Not just the overload of information from the enemy (for that was clearly what they were now), but also from the confusing situation with the bushi. Of particular note, there was only one of them, and he appeared unarmed. Had they changed their plan? ...did they have a plan? Kojiro certainly wasn't giving her any signals that she could tell, aside from the fact that he was pushing towards disengaging with the man. Perhaps that meant Kagae was waiting in ambush? Well, either way, with nobody working with her and the enemy being cooperative in all the wrong ways, her plan was shot. She had to assume that the man was being honest, which meant that the amount of cooperation she had gotten from him so far was miracle enough as it was. If the other two were stuck in a bizarre, terrible ritual, what could they do? As much as she hated them, it wasn't enough to blatantly interfere with a plan that could get them all out of here alive, so she would say nothing for now, and instead focus on any obscure knowledge she might have read about either Shadowlands Rituals or the creation of Nemuranai in relation to being thrown back in time.

Masuyo, your knowledge of Shadowlands, and of Nemurani, is somewhat lacking in this regard, and you aren't sure you can place any significance on anything based on Matsusuke's information.
Matsusuke would pause for a few moments, turned towards Kojiro, before responding.
"Tell me... how does this mission affect us? If it doesn't, as long as you are out of here quickly enough, then it shouldn't be a problem."
Kojiro, you get the sense that he bought what you said, but you'll need to do a better job selling it to him before he accepts it completely.

Kojiro thought about the logistics of the situation before responding. "Well, ideally, you should not notice us as we go around the city. Obviously, your people will. Especially if they've been following me around all day. " The samurai shrugged. "It cannot be helped. Speaking of that, why don't you come back to our base with us. I'm sure you want to deal with the survivor from last night somehow."

Masuyo was stumped. If she ever made it back home she foresaw a lot of studying in her future. For now she simply continued to remain silent and try her hardest to keep the look of confused surprise from her face.

The sound of heavy breathing would come from beneath Matsusuke's helm for a few moments, before he would turn to face Kojiro directly.
"What guarantee do I have that there is a survivor?"

"I cannot guarantee he will survive long. It may come as a shock to you, but people....tend not to like being killed in their sleep. Crabs chief among them. " The Scorpion started walking towards their encampment. "I'm sure that if we hurry, your subordinate may be alive. He was alive when I left him."

Matsusuke would turn his helmet towards Masuyo. "Even in the Shadowlands, the reputation of the word of a Scorpion travels far. Your word, on the other hand, would weigh so much more heavily, Dragon-san. What is the status of the two men who I sent to you last night?"

Masuyo huffed. There was playing along, and then there was besmirching her name. "My treatments are flawless. The boy's condition is stable. He has said nothing, and I cannot say when he might regain consciousness. He will need careful attention and rest for the next few days if he is to remain stable. From the condition I found him in after his encounter with the Kaiu's trap, it is by the will of the Kami I was able to save him at all. The other man went for my throat. He did not survive."

Kojiro, Masuyo! Are you really content leading this man back to your base of operations?
