Kojiro sighed as he set his own Daisho near the other two and whispered a prayer over the blades. "If we fall here, may you find your way into the hands of ones who will avenge us."
He did leave his armor on and as he straightened from disarming himself, he called to Kagae. "I'm curious about some things. I'm going to head after Kitsuki." With that, he left after the Dragon shugenja.

"Mnn." she responded with a shake of her head, suddenly looking very sad. She could have lied. Oh, the temptation was certainly there. With the man's attention focused on her (and maybe with the aid of an air kami) they could have easily set up a trap or ambush, but if those two couldn't grasp the simplest of plans or most obvious of subtleties... or at least not willing to work with her in such things... then there was simply no way they could pull off something like this. All in all it was looking quite hopeless.
"Kitsuki Masuyo." she said by way of introduction. They were indeed terrible speakers, so she decided to drop all pretense of etiquette and fall back into her familiar accent, "Woulda been different were it just Shadowlands monsters. I don't wannany part of this. I was jus's'possta be a guide."
She sat resignedly on a mostly toppled stone... something... and turned to look at him. "I know s'alotta things you can't talk about, so tell me 'bout yourself instead. You got a family?"

"I... don' see how'z that's much rel'vant right now." The young man would look around a bit, not saying anything for awhile.
"Boss'll tell ya 'nough when he gets 'ere. 'Nestly, we don' particu'lery wan' much trouble neither. I'd be much obliged if there were none."

She hesitated just as long, before finally responding in that telltale Dragon cryptic, "Inna place of such pain an' desolation as this, life's always rel'vant. P'haps y'can tell me this, then... what yer doin' here... s'it worth it? To you?"

"Three sisters, an' a wife who's passed. No kids, parents are gone too. Fam'ly hasn' been a factor fer me in a long while, so don' go tryin' t' play a sympathy card."
Some more time would pass in silence, before he would suddenly speak out, "Was a dark time of my life. Made a few bad choices. Now I gotta live wit' th' repr'cussions. That's all ya need t' know. Now I'd be much appreciative if we ended this lil' conversation of ours, 'fore I get caught sympathizing wit' th' enemy. Wouldn' end well fer me. Hopefully y' can respect that."

Masuyo nodded solemnly. There might have been a hint of pity in her eyes, but he would never get the chance to say for sure before she turned away to stare off in the distance. What a terrible place. No wonder most of her clan never left their lands.

Kojiro! Roll me a Reflexes/Hunting roll. This is your "initiative" to beat Matsusuke there.

Matsusuke beats you by one. Masuyo, the sudden motion of the archer is probably what gets your attention first. From the north, a man is walking in your direction. He is pale-skinned, in such a way that makes him look like he's never been out in the sun before. He is fairly thickly armored, to an extent - he has the kabuto (helm), Sode (shoulder guard), Kote (sleeve guard), and Tekko (hand guard) of the traditional heavy armor most military-focused families tend to wear... but he didn't bother with the actual chest or back guards to it whatsoever, instead barechested. Beyond that, he wore a semi-tattered hakama, and you got the hint that his legs were armored as his top was, but that was it. Overlooking his extremely built physique, most noticable on his torso was the gigantic scar tissue formed over his heart. Tengoku knows what might have caused an injury like that, and how someone could survive it. As he nears, you can get a better view of what lies beneath his helm... or rather, what doesn't. All that can be seen is an empty black void, even when you're sure the sunlight hits him just right where you should be able to see within. He does not appear to have a daisho, nor is he carrying any weapons. "Interesting," he would say in a booming, distant voice as he stopped about thirty feet away from Masuyo. "A bushi of the Crab and a bushi of the Scorpion send their woman to parlay alone? Either you wield great power, or they are truly honorless dogs."A deep exhale would be heard, and he would bow his head ever so slightly. "I am Matsusuke. And you are?"

The little Dragon's quiet meditation was finally broken by the arrival of their "host". Unlike the other two, there was a great deal to suggest that this man was tainted, and a great deal more to suggest that he was in a league far above his underlings. It was also interesting to note that the other two had yet to show up. Perhaps she would get her wish after all, if only by sheer coincidence. ...and hopefully not the coincidence of abandonment. Rude or not they were still bushi, and if things went south here she might very well need their expertise in the art of combat.
Those thoughts were quickly pushed aside, however, when she stood to meet the man, and was met with equally insulting observations. She did her best to return formalities with a curt bow and unslurred speech, "Kitsuki Masuyo. And while I may be beholden to my Lord Kitsuki Mizuochi, I am nobody's 'Woman'."
She cast him a stern look, unintimidated (or at least appearing so) as she took a few steps towards him into casual speaking distance while spreading her arms slightly to show that she was unarmed as requested. "Interesting indeed. You speak of honor yet defile the dead and move to assassinate us by night. You mark the others by Clan and yet dismiss me by gender. Guess at my power if you so desire, but be aware the folly of provoking an angry Dragon."

"..." Matsusuke would turn and 'look' in the direction of the archer.
"It seems that they've upheld their part of the bargain. You are dismissed."
"Hai," the elevated man would call out, cautiously scaling his way down from his station.
Turning back to Masuyo, Matsusuke would let out an exhale. "I've spent most of my life in the Shadowlands. The Lost don't ask for etiquette, only subservience. I've been told that I'm... rough around the edges."
He would shrug, his armored arms and shoulders clinking together as he did so.
"Yes, I did send assassins after you. Their failure is your success, and you are foes apparently worthy enough of consideration. If you weren't, your quick deaths would have been our easiest route. The damage you would deal to our numbers would be unacceptable if we launched a full-scale assault at this point."
Matsusuke would turn his helmeted head slightly to the right, as if looking at something in the distance.
"Here comes your back-up. Your Scorpion friend must have been waiting for me to show my... face," he would comment.
Kojiro, you are within sight of Masuyo and the person described above. You aren't in hearing range yet, but you will be upon them in less than a minute.
"Tell me, what of your fourth? My people informed me that four of you have entered the city, but there were only three present this morning. Your group was searching for something... or someone. Was it him?"

Her composure held, unmoving and unphased. It was a bit surprising to see how open he was about himself and his information. It was possible he was simply that practical. It was also possible he was lying. She didn't have a face to look at, but there was still body language and good 'ol Kitsuki intuition.

Masuyo, you get the impression that he is either choosing to be forthright with you, or he's not doing a very good job covering up his tale. I would probably lean more towards the former.

After a brief moment of assessment, she couldn't find any reason to suggest that he was lying. She finally relaxed her glare, replaced by a bit of concern as the Scorpion was mentioned, but she wouldn't let it stop her quite yet.
"I admire your practicality, but your information could use some work. It would be impractical of me to tell you how many of us there actually are, but unacceptable losses seems to be the universal reason behind this negotiation. Not one, but two of our unit have gone missing, and I believe you have an idea of where they might have gone."

"That's what I figured..." he would say, though not detailing what quite yet.
Kojiro, you are just about in earshot now.
"They're still here. They likely haven't left yet. They're with our maho-tsukai, the reason we are here. We're waiting."
Unless Kojiro would say or do something reckless, he would finally say, "I suspect your companions are back about six hundred and fifty years ago, their blood being spilled to create a nemuranai of great evil."
