the reason for new consoles all the time may be because of technology getting better and so producers providing better quality for cosumers..or it could be a way to get money off people by making something not as good as it is capable of and so creating a reason to continue making bigger and better ones..to get money..

I don't really have anything against new consoles because people buy they're favourite one..hence console wars evolving...but like you said about the handhelds..it's ridiculous...I don't own any handhelds and don't have a desire to..the screen is too small to see and the games are usually just smaller versions of originals...like metal gear acid etc..they aren't as good quality as the original console games, so why bother? I realise that handhelds are alright for travelling..but they just incourage grown up people to use them in ridiculous situations..like whilst driving...

= 0 noo! the Wii is so much better! The ps3 people actually copied the controller design concept what with the motion sensing but they call it the 'kinetic' controller. The X-Box 360 is verryy good and has excellent graphics as well as the ability to stream music through while you're playing a game. The ps3 is offering nothing new apart from better graphics and a motion sensing controller which was a nintendo concept. The Wii, however will play DVD's, will have a 24/7 wi-fi connect service, will have speakers built into the controllers for a depth of sounds that surround sound will never achieve.
Example: You are playing Legend of Zelda on a Ninteno Wii. You aim an arrow and let it fly. You hear the twang of the bowstring on the controller speaker and the sound dies away as the arrow flies towards its target. You then hear the impact sound ring out from your t.v.

The Wii also offers a download system whereby you can download NES, SNES, 64, mega drive games onto your Wii. The Wii is also going to be hte cheapest console out of the three and the games are going to remain lower than their competitors ranging around £35-£40...

@aquila: that sound system sounds very good..I'm impressed..but I'll stick with the ps3 cause I still think it has the better games over the xbox. most companies sell games for both consoles...but I want my devil may cry and they don't sell that on xbox!
