Ai chuckles. "Not exactly what I meant, but who am I to complain. So.. ye want yer sausage hot or warm.. eating in that form means ye got to swallow it whole and I sure the heck wouldn't want to eat one hot and have it burn all the way down."

Kero can sense his movement through the vibrations on his tongue and skin and knows he's placing a rather large sausage before him.

"Mama... isni't that too big fer him?" asks one of the twins. Her voice is slightly deeper, so Kero believes it to be Mara. As he hasn't exactly seen the girls since they've taken humanoid forms he can't be sure.

"Snakes eat things larger than their heads all the time, kiddo." laughs Bez. "They dislocate their jaws."

"Ouch..." mumbles her sister.

"How does he do that?" asks Mara watching him with interest.

"Actually I'd like to know why he'd do that." pipes in her sister.

It is Pasura who explains. "Our mouths are slightly different, but we have the same problem if we take too large of a bite." he offers with a grin. "We've learned to compensate though. My people have learned to take small bites and tear the food up a bit before we swallow. But a snake can't really chew, it needs to eat it's food whole. And once we start to swallow something we have to swallow it completely before we can spit it back up. Snakes actually dislocate their jaws to swallow."

Ari cringes slightly and shakes her head. "Ewwwww...."

"Kind of neat... so that's how they do it... I always wondered." murmurs Mara studying Kero as he eats.

"Just don't ye go wandering around outside looking for snakes to watch eat." warns Bez. "I've cleaned most of them out but there are still a few dangerous ones in some of the more remote regions. Not poisonous... but constrictors can be pretty bad iffin they get large enough."

"Spoil sport...." grumbles the dark haired twin causing everyone to laugh.

Bez smiles grimly. "Mara, when yer old enough... or rather, once ye get used to your new form, I'll take ye out hunting... fair enough. You can come too, Ari... iffin ye want. Does that help?"

Ari shakes her head. "I'll go if you think I need to, but I'd rather stay here with Mama..." she says quietly giving Tam a worried look.

"Not going anywhere, Ari... ye don't have to babysit me anymore." laughs the bard with a grin.

Mara pretends to wave her hands before his face. "Yeah... right..."

"I wouldn't do that if I were you..." warns Pasa shaking his head. "There is one very dangerous poisonous snake on this island and he's sitting at this table."

Ai sighs. "Show off... ye better eat that now that ye've made it inedible for the rest of us."

"what kind of snake are ye anyway... " begs Mara out of curiosity. It is obvious she doesn't see very many of them and has no fear.

"Not something ye want to find sitting on yer pillow at night... trust me." says Ai wryly as he places another sausage before him. "Eat up... ye need it." he urges the mage with a smile. "Ye have more color today, true, but yer looking a mite scrawny fer my tastes. There is laughter in his voice as hi ribs Kero for his choice of shape.

"So eat already..." laughs Bez knowingly. "Just save enough for us... and don't worry about Em. He's off hunting. He does that ever so often so as to keep from eating us out of house and home.

After breakfast, Pasa carries the snake back to the pallet in the living room and goes to help with the clean up, leaving him to sleep off his feast.
