NessaChan The Beef-Mover Actually, I think the funniest thing had to be the dead silence I got after breaking it to some thirteen year old that he'd been trying to pick up on a 21 year old English major with such smooth lines as: "r u hawt n rl?" Baaahahahaha.... That's pretty hilarious. lol Ahhh yes! I was all aflutter. xp

I thought this was too beautiful not to add to this thread. I'm fairly certain it would take the "genius" of some kid with too much free time to come up with this master plan: Yes, because I can't read all the bright red warnings.

I hope so. The note I sent when I reported it was something like "Please ban him, thanks."
Did you report the PM you received?

There's a thread over in the Chatterbox that's something like "WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THERE BEING KIDS ON GAIA?"
And everyone was like.. "oh, I think it's terrible, they shouldn't see stuff like what is on Gaia," and etc. (Of course with a lot worse spelling)
So finally someone asked the person who started the thread "How old are you?," and he said "15." So that made me laugh.
Then it went on with more "kids" talking about how terrible it was to have "kids" on Gaia, and finally someone asked him what he considered a "kid," and he said age 5-10. That made me ROFL.
Then he said that he didn't think anyone under 14 should be on Gaia even though he started when he was 13, but he said he had the intellect of a 20 year old so it was okay.
Now personally, I don't think having the intellect of a 20-year old is usually something to brag about haha... (No offense to younger members, I'm sure you're fine.)
Anyway, I had to post something, so I posted something like "remember, the older you get, the ages you consider a "kid" also get older." At 26, I consider the college Freshmen practical babies, they seem so young.. lol.. I feel old.
Anyway, the girl who posted right after me said something like "Gaia is for kidz only! Its retarded that there are 30 years old on Gaia stare " At that point I just got annoyed and angry and had to leave before I said something rude! Haha..
I'm sure there's more hilarity going on over there but I don't have the time or the patience.

I think the influx of youngsters in the 18-or-less age group is really a newer thing. Granted, I was gone for a year or so, so I don't really know how the change occured, but it seemed to be a lot more of an "adult" site then than it is now. I think it's a bit of a shame, really. stare ;

kids complaining about kids, it's all relative.
I hate when they get snotty about older gaians.
Well you know what puny little kids -totally drinks a LEGALLY PURCHASED AND OBTAINED wine cooler right in front of you- sure many of them drink under the age, but they probably have to pay more pft. Sides, unlike them, I can vote in elections. biggrin

I'd say that the point that Gaia started to get really popular was when the mean age started to go down. Back when the site started, there weren't all that many huge anime sites (Anime Turnpike is the only one I can remember) and on average, anime fans were older. But, the combination of more anime on TV, pulling in kids, and the site (with its cute avatars) becoming more popular and reaching more kids online, along with a lot of the older members becomming bored and quitting, meant that the majority switched to under 18.
Now, Gaia being a pg-13 site, I don't think that anyone under 13 should really be here. But then, I'm one of the old fuddy-duddies that think that kids shouldn't be allowed free time online until they're 18. xd It would mean that I wouldn't have to deal with so many kids in my daily online meandering.

Yeah, I would tend to agree. I think this site seems really unsafe for youngsters... way too many unsupervised kids (as young as 8 or 9!) on the internet seeing and doing and talking about things they probably shouldn't be getting into. I'm afraid it's only a matter of time befor there's some sort of "My Space" type disaster. I mean, there are rules that are supposed to keep kids safe, but as of right now it doesn't look that safe to me. I would think they should have to find a better way to enforce age limits, but that's just me.

yeah well I get all kinds of crap from people...the one I got today was on AIM from someone who stated they where 18,
him: Hi HIm: A/S/L Me (after getting off the phoen with my uncle): hi 23/F/IL HIm: 18m Him: A/S/L? Him: Do you like anime? Me: yes Him: Do you like to write? Me; Yes, though as of late writing is more of a treat for me. Him: are you in college? Me: No, dropped out a few years back. Him: good bye
now someone please explain that to me? how does me not going to college give the perfect excuse as to why you can't talk to me?

Seems snobbish to me. I'm a grad student, and let me tell you, I have learned that college isn't about being smart or not. I've known some brilliant people who had a GED, and I've gone to class with some stupid, stupid people.
Not everyone has mom and daddy paying for college. And sometimes the stress of college plus a job, or two jobs... or three jobs... etc, gets too much. Honestly I wouldn't feel so burned out right now if I could live close to school and not have to hold down a job, just focus on my studies.
Sorry that kid was so rude to you. I've discovered the slightly older men folks do have their advantages.
