Hi, and welcome to the guild!
Calm down there, hon'. If you notice the paragraph underneath the list mentions how Tracy (Who is myself) is not perfect and cannot name every creature that ever existed in every Redwall book. All you have to do is kindly point it out to a mod, and we will fix it ASAP.
Thanks! Hope you enjoy the guild! biggrin

I didn't mean to offend you. Thanks for the welcome. I am pleased to meet you friend and fellow fan of the Redwall series. To tell you the truth if there wasn't already this one guild I would have started one of my own.

*exhausted, spastic, and half-mad with depression* The correct term for the weapon they built is Ballista, not Crossbow.

No, isn't he talking about the part where they make the ginormous bow out of the tree? I believe a ballista is similar to a catapult. What they made is a crossbow.
cry Much love for KJ. <3

A ballista is a giant crossbow on wheels that fires spear-like missiles. A catapult is a long wooden arm with a piece for holding rocks, boulders, etc. on the end, all placed on wheels. A trebuchet is a giant vertical sling on wheels. I am a medieval weapons, armor, and battle strategy/tatics specialist. Any questions? *is pissed cuz for some reason i can't freaking stop shaking!*

But the one in Redwall wasn't on wheels.
I believe they used a ballista or two in Mossflower, though.

Correct, it was on a table. It was a makeshift ballista. And, yes, ballistae (plural) were used in Mossflower, due to Martin's friend Timballisto (get the name? lol).

Oh, man, we're as bad as any Trekkies. ^_^ For lo, I have looked it up in the sacred tome, aka the Ace Fantasy Paperback. 3nodding Am now confused. On page 259, Jacques A large powerful bow, something along the lines of a crossbow. But a page later, as KJ says, On page 260, Jacques Together they mounted it upon a dining table with nails and strapping, and bore it up to the ramparts. Well. I'm going to assume the vague original plan was for a crossbow and it evolved into a ballista. Ta-da. sweatdrop Yes. Indeed. Lol.

Dictionary.Com: An ancient and medieval engine of warfare used to hurl heavy projectiles at a target.
All a ballista is, really, is a giant crossbow.
