Physical Description: Tall broad man with dark skin. His dark hair has just the hint of red in it and is kept cropped short on one side and allowed to grow chin length on the right side. His eyes are a startling pale green.
Personality: W’res possesses a cheer that is almost too much for some people and can seem to never end. He finds delight and joy in little things and is able to look at life in a way that allows for that cheer even in dark times. He is a freethinking individual that will form his own opinions based on what he can perceive and his own experiences. He doesn’t really care about tradition or what authority says, instead able to question what seems odd to him. Whimsical and enjoying that which is different, W’res can be a bit fanciful at times. This helps with his ability to see the world in a cheerful light, though it is also known to annoy others.
He can be argumentative and is fond of disputing things. Often he and his brother will have lively debates where each simply pick an argument and go with it, even if they agree. When W’res tries this with other, it can be aggravating or off putting. Due to his freethinking, argumentative, and cheerful, fanciful self, W’res is somewhat disobedient. If the order doesn’t make sense, if the thing he is being told to do goes against what he believes, or he simply doesn’t want to do it, W’res will find a reason to not, and argue his case. On top of all this, W’res is extravagant in his actions, words, and dress. He can come across as over the top and not taking things seriously.
History: W’res was born Wiyres. His twin brother, Riywes and he were born into a caravan subgroup of a large widespread nomadic group of traders, entertainers, and general crafters or tinkerers. The two of them were doted on by the group and grew up happy, content, and loved. They were typical boys that got into mischief and mayhem but could also be trusted to look after the babies and animals. In many ways it was the perfect life for them.
When Wiyres was 16 and just starting to consider if he wanted to say with the group he was in or travel with a different subgroup thus allowing him to maybe find love, a group of riders came to visit and trade with his family. It was then that he was searched by a beautiful green dragon. It was an honor not only to him but the caravan as well, as so often they were overlooked as not worthy by many. They were different than everyone else, with their own insular culture that was not trusted by so many holders.
Wiyres tried to get them to search Riywes as well because he did not want to leave his twin behind. They were extremely close. But none of the dragons would agree to search Riywes. Riywes encouraged Wiyres to go and he finally agreed. Candidate life did not always agree with Wiyres. He got in trouble often, was distrusted by many of the other candidates for being of that nomadic tribe, but he found friends and happiness as well. Of course the fact that one of his favorite things to do included pissing off the higher ups didn’t help. He managed to stay just on the right side of not getting kicked out.
Fast forward to when Wiyres was twenty six. He was at what he knew was his last hatching and Riywes was waiting in the stands to take him home afterwards. Wiyres didn’t think that he would impress and was mostly having fun instead of worrying about it. He was teasing and congratulating the ones that impressed, paying more attention to that they what the dragons were doing. It was only when one of the blues wandered over to the stands and started climbing them that he started to really pay attention. It was such a very rare thing to happen after all, and everyone was curious about who the dragon was after.
It turned out to be Riywes much to Wiyres’s shock. They had been apart for so long and he was so looking forward to when they could be together again for longer than a day. But now hi twin would be the one staying at the Weyr and Wiyres would be the one to go home. He was delighted for his twin but also saddened by the turn of events. AS distracted as everyone was, most of them didn’t notice the small blue that had quietly made its way behind Wiyres until the blue hatchling knocked Wiyres flat on his face into the sands. “Silly human.” The blue told him. “We really must work on your alertness.” Wiyres, with a face full of sand, simply stared at the blue and at his brother’s blue and began to grin.
Weyrlinghood passed quickly by for W’res and soon they were off on their own. Enoith and W’res, along with R’wes and Aneith, returned to the caravans and began to expand their trading reach through the help of the dragons. It was a good time with the usual gamut of emotions. During that time they met many new people, including a goldrider trader that they often turned to when lost of confused about something about their dragons.
Thread fell far away from their little caravan at first and many did not believe it truly had returned. Enoith and Aneith knew better and helped convince their subgroup at least that there was a real threat. Others in the caravans went into the archives at Landing to find out how traders in the past had dealt with the thread. W’res and R’wes were both very worried about their people and spent most of their time tracking the falls of thread. Still, the first fall that hit their people caught everyone by surprise. It wasn’t their subgroup that was hit. But W’res and R’wes went as quickly as they could to fight. They had a small stash of firestone from before as the dragons would flame to entertain people (R’weas even did fire dances) and they had been increasing that store as the thread came closer.
The fight was terrible and Enoith ended up with threadscore on his tail. But the worst was the death toll. Over half of the people they had been fighting to save died. And it became clear to all four of them that they had no idea how to fight. It was hard to decide to return to Western Weyr, but for all of them the choice was also non existent. If they wanted to be able to protect the ones that they loved they needed to learn and be a part of a flight, not on their own.
