"Or views him as disposable to the current plan." Ruin would interject after Revenge's kind words to the human. "Which seems like repair what can be and improve defenses for the next wave."
“I would suggest we don’t tell anyone about what your brother said,” Viaus said playing advocate for evil. “Let the people play soldier if they want. While they stay here the Aber.-drow forces have to fight a bottleneck scenario. In which the advantage goes to these soldiers. If you tell there is no telling how Ilikan’s boss will answer. But, it would affect his orders and moral and that would slay these people just as much as if you drew your club and started swinging.”
“Instead leave them to their tarts or suggest ideas for traps and other anti-siege countermeasures.” He would finish with a shrug. "But, do as you think is best. I just want to know, how far is it to your city from here? And can your... torchstalks... be harvested and used against the drow offensively?"
(Did Valac take the potion? If not, Ruin can try to give it to the team's healer. )

All of that made the human show some teeth- laughing through a toothy grin at Revenge and Ruin's different outlooks. Far from taking offense, he seemed genuinely amused. After all, in this case, both were probably true. "Well, capable or disposable, either way, sounds like you don't need to fret too much about ol' Ilikan."
The rest of the conversation though... that was much more interesting.
"Sorry to disappoint you both, but words already out. Saw it in the battle." He advised levelly. "We're holding guard and helping recovery, but consensus of the strategic minds is that there's no risk of a second invasion any time soon, and they know better to pursue them underground or we'd already be rallying a sortie."

(Posting on my alt account... tried to do so earlier as Rain, actually, before Gaia rochambo'd me)
"Of course," Revenge would respond to Kuori when she mentioned the detour, allowing her to continue. "If you want me to tag along when you go see high command, let me know. Otherwise, I have a duty of care to try and help these people if I can before we depart. If you strongly believe we will encounter resistance, I'll try to save my lay on hands, but... I promise nothing."
Revenge would seem to recall something, and turn his head over his shoulder to gesture at his pack. "Oh, I also have an everburning torch. Low light vision doesn't do us tieflings any more good than your human eyes do in the deep dark, Ilikan. It's not true flame though, so it should be okay."
Turning to the infirmary area, he'd give a courtesy wave of his gauntleted hand. "See you at the gate in two."
If not otherwise stopped, he'd see what he could do in regards to first aid to any patients, or offer any spiritual guidance to those if requested.

“Really?” Not terribly surprised, given the forms and bodies outside the gate he came through. “In that case, What kind of aberrations did you see? Did they seem to have a hierarchy, or did they appear to be equals, in terms of control?” Ruin would ask Ilikan as he pulled out a spare potion(non-Tristan Tonic) for Kuori. And without saying anything he would offer it to the cleric of death.
The teacher in Ruin was attempting to recall any information on the names of the nightmarish creatures. What he really wanted to know was, Would such an aberration play well with the others listed or drow? (Without outside magical "help") But, Dungeoneering wasn’t his forte, though any info would be better than nothing.
((Dungeoneering plus 3, Multiple rolls if needed for multiple creatures.
Assuming Valac did take it)

"Good luck, then," Revenge would say, turning towards Valac, Ruin, and Ilikan. "I'll see you all in a bit. I need to see if Sehanine's grace can ease anyone's spirits. Ilikan, if you've seen any of the beasties first hand, you might want to coordinate with Valac to see if any special weapons might be handy to bring along. He's like a force of nature in combat, I'd rather that continue to be the case against this new foe."Revenge would then excuse himself to try and tend to any injured or forlorn, within the bounds of what any field medics would allow him to do. "They appeared a mess," he responded, slightly taken aback at the onslaught of questions from the tiefling before it got a chuckle from him, tilting his head back to think on what he'd seen. "It was mostly drow and duergar. There were illithids and whatever monsters they'd dragged along, and some orcs too, but even though they all came at us together, there was a lot of infighting once they broke ranks. Complete chaos really."
He considered a moment. "Uh. Small smattering of... umberhulks. Trogolytes. Formorians. A few beholders in there somewhere, gotta feel sorry for whoever got in their way once the retreat started."
He shrugged, no clue if this was all helping Ruin figure out whatever he was so excited about or not, but it was something at least. There was a risk of running into a random wanderer from the force her or there after all, he supposed it couldn't hurt to know what they were made up of.

Shakes her head, "Duegar alongside Illithids doesn't make sense. Not unless they're being controlled again. Not since the Spider Wars. A few of those combinations make sense, Umberhulks and Mind Flayers, Drow and Spiders, sure, but Duegar and Drow? Duegar and Mind Flayers? No, there is a bigger threat down there behind this army."
Kuori begins to make her way to the general's office to share this knowledge.

Ruin’s tail went limp as the human continued listing off. If there was ever a point, Ruin regretted asking something…“I guess I should be thankful, you didn’t say Undead and Tarrasques.” He spoke trying to think of something better but gave a quick shiver as the same words gave an after image in his head. “Anyway Thank you, Ilikan.”
He didn’t know how he could help, but the small tiefling took off with the goliath. It seemed better than standing at the gate for the next two hours.

As Revenge works his way back into the medical ward he finds most of the injured are pretty well taken care of by this point, though the medics do appreciate the help and allow him to assist in some small tasks. Revenge finds he is of much more use telling stories about Sehanine and the religion. The injured soldiers confined here all seem quite bored and welcome his proselytizing as way to break up the monotony. One particular soldier, a young half elf woman that reminds Revenge of his wife, seems particularly interested in his words. She begins to ask him more specific questions about his faith. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
General Valmist Kuori and Ruin make there way over to the main building in the fort. At first their entrance is blocked by some soldiers but they are eventually let in after some talking as it becomes apparent the general would be interested in talking to Kuori about her tribe. Kuori and Ruin are soon led to a small unadorned room where a middle aged human man is sat behind a desk filled with papers. The bed in his room signaled this place must serve as his quarters as well. He would slowly stand up and greet Kuori and Ruin. "Greetings, I am General Valmist. This here is my fort, here to serve as a watchful eye over the entrance into the Underdark. From what I have been told, you belong to the tribe of Goliaths who inhabit that subterranean layer. We have come to learn that your town lay in the path of the Underdark army and has not been heard from since. We are about to launch a mission to try and establish contact with them. Perhaps you would be willing to serve as a guide for one of my soldiers?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ilikan and Valac are left alone in the middle of the fort outside the medical ward as the soldiers busily go about their duties. (unless you indicate to me you followed either Kuori or Revenge) Soldiers walking by would occasionally stop and greet Ilikan and Valac gets dejavu as he feels he is being watched by a yet unseen set of eyes.

She will nod, "I already agreed to escort the one man you were sending in. My brother filled me in on what happened, I'm here for an exchange of information though." She will get comfortable, "You are sitting on a powder keg thats about to explode general. I don't expect that you are up to scratch on your Underdark lore, but the forces that are working together would never work together under any circumstance where free will was involved. They are being controlled by something greater that is standing behind that army. Something that has Beholders doing its bidding. Does the gravity of that reality hit you general? Lightlost is one of several entrances to the Underdark. You may stand here, but if they get beaten back here, they will, I repeat will, find another path. While I am down there I recommend you find back up, because I have it on good authority that Aria is seeking to harness whatever that power is for their own means. And they may smile and shake your hand as they do it, but you and I both know what weaponizing that level of mind control could mean for the leaders we serve. My people are dead, I suggest you prepare to make sure yours don't follow mine."

Valac took a glance around remembering that Tristan had a small girl who could turn invisible. With the hairs on his neck beginning to itch he looked around rapidly but only managed to inflame his injury from chopping wood earlier. Valac scrunched his eyes and held his nose in pain losing concentration.
(Nat 1 Perc).
After an awkward beat of Valac and Ilikan being left alone, Valac piped up slapping Ilikan heavily across the back, "Well that's more like it! I was fine with just collecting dark elf scalps but you've really brought us a buffet of bloodshed. Well done!"

Less proselytizing and more stand-in chaplaining in case they were short one.
"I will be happy to answer any questions you have about the goddess Sehanine, or about any of the gods in general - to the best of my ability for the latter," Revenge would say to the half-elf woman. "It is by her guidance that has led me here today. I will be departing soon to see if my allies and I can exterminate the source of evil that has stirred so much darkness here, but I will be happy to have your ear about anything you wish to discuss until my departure." The paladin would give her a reassuring smile.

The tiefling stood near the door as Kuori dumped a load of verbiage on the General.
“Excuse us, sir,” Ruin stepped and placed his hand on his companion. “There is no way you can know the fate of your people. And I don’t think wide sweeping arguments will help here. I am sure half of what you said, is no new news to the commander. And given every nation would be after means of amassing power, it would be better to give examples of how far Aria has gone in the past.” That isn’t to say, he didn’t know a part of her pain but felt playing such a card with a blanketing statement would be lost on the poor man. “Remember, He is commander here and probably gets his orders from someone above him. Just like your sister.”
“Vaius Mirviir, sir. It is not the reason we are here, but we already made contact with your man, Ilikan and agreed to see him to the city.” Ruin spoke as he turned to address the commander “But, am I correct in my assumption, you haven’t made any contact with the Lostlight tribe, before her brother? May, I ask how long were you the commander of this fort?" he asked, before explaining his reasoning. "It just seems strange to me, for a military force of this size not to know of or possibly have relations with a possible friendly city sitting on no-mans-land. That said, I don’t mean to be confrontational, but given the history of best intentions. Can I know, what is your interest with the tribe?”

The half-elf woman would smile at Revenge. "Oh, I would just like hear more stories about Sehanine. I am fellow worshiper you see but..." The half-elf woman would point to the large bandage she had wrapped around her head. "...I'm afraid my injury caused me to lose a lot of my memories. I hoped listening to you talk might help me remember something." The lady would suddenly get a concerned look on her face as she pondered Revenge's words. "Exterminate the source of evil? Is there another one? We already did that, I thought. That's why this war cost us so dearly. You see the the army from the Underdark was..." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
General Valmist "A devil. It was a devil" The general would suddenly chime in after listening to what Kuori and Ruin said. "It was a devil that somehow managed to unify the denizens of the Underdark in a crusade against the surface world. The key word is was. He's dead now, or at least as dead a devil can get. It will be quite a bit of time, if ever, that his spirit re-manifests in hell. I believe his name was Typhon. I imagine he was trying to make some sort of a name for himself in the underworld. Fortunately, it did not go that well for him. It took the combined armies of my nation of Larethal and our neighbor Haverest, but we defeated him and drove what was left of his army back underground. I'm sure you noticed the corpses on the way in. That was just what was slain on their final retreat back to the Underdark. The main battles took place much farther away from here. Our victory came at a great cost. We lost a lot of good men and women and we are now licking our wounds, but the enemy is broken and they will not attempt such a folly again for along time. All that is left now is to pick up the pieces. I hope that eases your minds a bit." General Valmist would then look at Ruin. "Less than a week ago this place was nothing more than the remains of some forgotten ruin. We are now utilizing what was left of that structure to build this fort to stand watch over this entrance into the Underdark. I am not from around here and this land exists on the fringes of our two kingdoms. There were not many people around to talk to, as most of the surrounding villages were destroyed by the Underdark invaders, so knowledge of an underground city of Goliaths came as a surprise to me. I want to confirm if the city survived, and if it did, offer them what aid we can, little though it may be at this moment. I hope that answers your question as well." The General would turn his attention back to Kuori. "I am relieved that you offered to lead my man to your city. We don't have much at the moment, but you are free to take what supplies you need for your journey. We will keep your brother safe and ensure his full recovery. That lad has been though a lot." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Valac notices nothing out of the ordinary but he can't help but shake that uncanny feeling. After slapping Ilikan on the back he feels a small crumpled piece of paper appear in his other hand as if out of thin air. He looks around again and sees no indications of where it even could have came from. If he opens the note, he will see a message written in Common. If he can read it and chooses to, it says in big sprawling letters: Be alone I want to talk V.
