Tsuyoshi appreciated the assistance, even if the bandit held onto his weapon. He would care to get it away from him too, but letting the man up just meant he'd pick it up again, and he'd have to keep smacking it from his hand until the criminal wore out. Given that the opportunity to surrender to them and regain some sliver of honor, he wasn't feeling particularly generous toward the man as he fought on, but there was the question of what was pushing- or threatening- him into this, and the Miya's command. Weighing that against the risk of letting him to his feet and perhaps able to injure her any small amount, however, Tsuyoshi favored caution- he'd probably survive, unless he thrashed too hard and managed to impale himself rather terribly on the sasumata.

Round 10

27 - Chiharu, Attack Stance, Guarding Ayame
26 - Tsuyoshi, Attack Stance
19 - Ayame, Full Defense Stance, Armor TN 26
17 - Bandit, Attack Stance, 33 damage, Down, Prone, Grappled
9 - Rakurai, On Edge

--------------------

Chiharu would move up, taking a more aggressive stance, a look of determination on her face. She would try to aim the base of her bo at the man's tanto, looking to knock it from the man's hand, but she seemed to be unable to draw a good bead on it despite his attempts to struggle and wouldn't go through it with.

Tsuyoshi managed to keep control of the man rather easily at this point, twisting and thrusting his weapon downward to keep the man pinned. His wounds from before re-opened, he once more gave in to the damage he sustained, now unable to resist!

The bandit man is Down! What next, samurai?

Having already done all this once, Tsuyoshi stood at ready for a moment, staring at the peasant suspiciously until he was quite satisfied the man wasn't 'playing dead' before he took his weapon away, prodding his wrist gently with the butt of it. "Let it go," he said, indicating the knife.

If he did, Tsuyoshi would slide it beyond arm's reach of the man with his polearm before putting his own weapon aside, and looking for something to bind the man with.

"Pardon the presumption, Miya-sama, but I think this man has distracted enough time and resource from our mission today. If we intend to question him, might I suggest we bind him and leave him at the village to recover enough to answer, and question him tonight or in the morning?"

Chiharu went to fetch something to bind the bandit.

-Do we have any rope, Miya-sama?

She looked around looking for any rope or vine that could do the job at least until they got back to the village.

The man is Down but not Out, and still is physically capable of holding his weapon... but not much more.

He doesn't readily drop it, choosing instead to tighten his grip on it as much as he can with the strength he's still able to muster.

Tsuyoshi, you could probably easily pry it from his hand (Down means he'll pretty much be unable to resist without spending a void point, and even then suffer massive penalties; regardless, no roll will be required on your behalf), though a strike to the hand would also probably do the job.

Chiharu, if none of your comrades has rope for you to use, you'll need to give me a Perception/Hunting (Survival) to find vines. Miya Ayame indicates that she has none.

"I have rope," Tsuyoshi replies, setting aside his weapon and the traveling pack, where it was contained- "I'll assist you in but a moment."

Not wanting the man to have any weapons if possible, much less a chance of cutting himself free, the magistrate knelt down, holding down the man's arm at first until it was clear he couldn't strike back really, then simply putting his weight gently onto a knee over the arm, and carefully prying the knife from his hand. He put that aside for the moment, and then went to remove the rope from the bag and begin tying their prisoner, happy to accept any assistance from the shugenja if she offered it.

((Is an action required to bind/to oppose future escape attempts, or is success assumed in this circumstance?))

(As covered in the OOC, a action roll is not required since the target can't actively resist you in this regard: Since no roll was given despite this, the TN is set at 15 to break free.)

"Very good," Ayame would say, nodding in approval of Tsuyoshi's bindings. "We can explore where this road leads later, but for now, let's get this wretch to the village we were at earlier. We'll order them to hold him until he's willing to talk."

Mounting her horse and petting his neck affectionately, she would look down upon the prone bandit man, scowling at him. "Normally I'd have you put him on Rakurai's back to carry him, but since he was so insolent as to hurt my horse, his riding privileges have been revoked. Tsuyoshi-san, take care of transporting him. Drag him, if you see it fit."

Will a pull of the reigns, Ayame orients her steed westward and begins to trot back the way you three had come from.

--------------------

Chiharu, Tsuyoshi, give me a Perception/Hunting roll. You aren't aware you're making it, so no void point can be spent on it at this time.

Tsuyoshi, from the east, you see in the distance through the trees at to the horizon, dark clouds beginning to roll in from the sea.

Chiharu, you don't notice it yet. If not pointed out, I'll let you know when you see them.

What are you two doing in the meanwhile?

As the Imperial mounts her horse, Chiharu also prepares to resume the travel.

Once everything is safe and the bandit is well tied the shugenja organizes the scrolls she had used back in place on the satchel, making easy to draw it again if needed. She makes it quickly, not allowing the retinue to wait.

Well, at least the horse was well so they could move the man without waiting for him to be able to wa--

Oh. Oh.

Well, the magistrate approached the man and frowned, debating how likely he thought dragging the man would be to kill him... but ultimately decided it presented some risk of that, besides just not being any easier ultimately. Resigning himself to it, he hoisted the man up, looking to try and carry him in the easiest way, rather than concerning himself with his comfort any.

He looked up at the skies, frowning as he watched the storms drawing in- given their course, they'd be heading right by it again after dropping the man off. "Miya-sama, I fear Osano-wo may have a mind to change our plans for the day. We should hurry back to shelter-" Well aware that this would be a much greater burden on him, carrying the man, than the imperial on a horse... but he couldn't send her ahead unless they were at risk of being caught up in it either, as he was tasked with protecting her in the unlikely case that some other threat existed here.

Miya Ayame was not a tyrant, and made it a point not to let distance form between her and the Crane. The pace was slow, but ultimately uneventful.

Chiharu, when Tsuyoshi mentions the weather, you now note the dark clouds. You can't tell if he made an Intelligence/Hunting roll or is just going by his gut, so whether you take him at his word for the timeline, I will leave that decision in your hands.

--------------------

Efude Village...

All told, it's probably been an hour since you left and returned. The farming peasants were hard at work once again in the field, though a handful of younger peasants, maybe 10 to 12 years of age each, were tending to the upkeep of one building - notably, the most central one. While from the outside, it didn't look more impressive than the rest, it was considerably larger than the rest (though not by a huge margin).

When the three (four?) of you are spotted, the villagers in your immediate vicinity stop working and once more prostrate themselves before the Imperial.

"Miya-tono," a man would say with a shaky voice. "We have not yet finished preparations for your stay, if you wish to grace us with your presence. Please, forgive us, we thought we had more time. We can it ready momentarily if you allow the rest of us to abstain from our present duties to do so!"

They definitely seem very concerned that Ayame might be angry.

--------------------

As of right now, it's early-to-mid afternoon - you can probably explore another region and come back before it's completely dark. Thoughts on this, samurai?

As Chiharu enters the village again she looks around in search for any ashigaru, budoka, or a heimin who seem fit to the duty of keeping an eye on the bandit during his stay on the village.

Once the villager aproaches the Miya, Chiharu offers a mild smile towards the heimin, hoping to make them a little less stressed with the overwhelming presence of the Imperial.

—Miya-sama, may be we could stroll around the village a little longer while the heimin are cleaning the place.

She gazes the clouds that Tsuyoshi had pointed a while ago, unable to say how far they are, she just hopes to be back before any rain.
Chiharu asks the villager:

—Do you thing everything will be ready before sunset?
PostPosted: Mon Aug 21, 2017 9:26 pm

Chiharu, you see none. You don't think it's a mater of not seeing them; it seems that there aren't any. A TN 15 Intelligence/Battle roll might give you some insight, however.

Likewise, a TN 15 Intelligence/Hunting roll will help gauge the clouds.

"Mm... I suppose there's wisdom in that," Miya Ayame would say, nodding sagely at Chiharu's recommendation. "I need to map the village anyways, and this might be a good opportunity to do just that." Turning to Tsuyoshi, she would say to him, "Can you see to it that this particular individual is kept in a separate building, not near where myself and Rakurai will be staying? I would not be comfortable sleeping knowing he's in such close proximity."

Chiharu, you note that the villagers are extra tense now, after seeing Tsuyoshi with the roped bandit. Though you get the hint that it's a "worry" concern and not a "guilty" concern.

After Tsuyoshi would leave with the prisoner, she would address Chiharu once more. "These are your lands, so I'd be delighted if you showed me around personally, Chiharu-san. Since Rakurai was hurt in that battle, I'm going to give him a break and find him some stabling, and see the lands on foot."

Dismounting, the villagers await a look from her before some immediately come to take her steed from her. "Our stables are not in use yet, so your horse will have the run of the stable, Miya-tono," one villager assured her, bowing deeply and backing away to follow the others leading Rakurai away.

She follows behind them slowly at a distance, inspecting their treatment of her companion from afar, but still within eyeshot of you. It is at this juncture you ask the villager about timing, "Yes, Doji-sama. It can be ready in less than half an hour if we dedicate the manpower to it - this includes space for you and your fellow Doji of course, my lady - but we had intended to have it ready before sunset. We thought it would be around then that it might be needed. Please forgive us for making bold assumptions about Miya-tono's needs." And he would bow deeply, apologetically to Chiharu.

(As a note, sunset is still a couple hours away; Ayame could map an area and return, possibly even squeezing in another territory visited quickly to see what's there.)

Chiharu smiled kindly at the heimin when she is informed that there will be places for all of them soon. She finds a bu on her obi and offers it to the villager, placing at his hand while making sure not to touch him.

-May the fortunes watch you and your family. Miya-sama and I will be back in a while.

The clouds did not seem particularly threatening and the lack of budoka or ashigaru could not make the shugenja concerne.

—Please, Miya-sama. Let's take a stroll, there is more to see nearby, it will be my pleasure to show Miya-sama around.

Chiharu walks by the Imperial in a sort of protective, but not condescending, manner. Moving towards a, hopefully, more auspicious route out of the village.
