"Get some!" Shouted Walter as he was excited from his previous success at shooting but something dreadful happened when he pulled the trigger.

"No! Nononononononono! Not now! Not the dead man's click!"

Walter begun to cycle rounds like crazy in hopes of getting the firing pin to work and hoping it just wasn't a dead slug.

Combat Round 2 Results

Trooper Griswold keeps a cool head, and fires a few parting shots that knocked out many of the shadow beasts' numbers as he withdrew to the dunes. These beasties seemed to like it close, so he made sure he wouldn't get swamped. In the process, he made sure 2 of their number would not be able to follow him!

Corporal Tantalus would decide that firing his E-Cannon straight down at his feet was probably not a good idea. Instead, he resorted to the age-old terran custom of riverdance to solve his problems. He managed to punt one shadow beast that had not asked for dinner and a holovid first, before regrouping with the rest of the troopers. Tantalus made sure that 1 shadow beast paid with it's life!

The rest of the squad, apparently, panicked. They fired every which way, bullets and pulse rounds tearing up landscape or disappearing over the horizon. Even the Sergeant seemed to be losing his cool!

Luckily for the squad, the shadow beasts seemed to be somewhat baffled by the offensive tactic taken by the invaders, and found themselves unable to close without drifting into a hail of firepower.

Two threat tokens removed, two to go!

While he wouldn't say it out loud, particularly not to the commanding officers, Griswold felt a bit more comfortable with a line of meat between him and the enemy. Still, that wouldn't last forever, so a-shooting he would do.

Unfortunately his squad's state of panic made it very difficult to shoot beyond them without actually shooting through them, and that seemed like poor form.

"Schools? Patchenko, my babe, burn them to hell!" Zeke shouts stepping forward before firing. With no mercy he plows as much heated energy into the confused beings. Time to close the gap.

"Who messed with Patchenko's targeting calibration when I slept?"

He was back with the other troops now, and at a more desired range for Maggie. But after the quick retreat, he needed to get her shoulder and whirred up again. "C'mon baby, don't fail me now..."

Shaking his head to regain himself, he'd work to back off, firing at the shadowy thing of doom.

Dumping the mag and quickly reloading Walter re sighted on the enemy. He let out a huge sigh of relief as the calming sound of slug fire he was rewarded with for his efforts.

"Do not let up stand with steel and know no fear!" Shouted Walter.

Then radioing to command, "We have encountered enemy resistance. Regenerating shadow fish believed to be hiding in underwater corals. May be what made the scan fail. Shall we return to base? Over."

Combat Round 3 Results

Corporal Tantalus would give Maggie a few loving words (and maybe a few caresses), and his partner would re-initiate the anti-matter fusion cycle within its containment core, releasing that vibrating purr he loved so much. Tantalus was ready for round two!

Sergeant Kovack attempted to lead by example as his corporal prepared to bring the heat! He would fire a pair of precise shots into the incoming swarm of darkness, and his kill counter would rise with each one. Kovack kills 2 of their number!

The attack seemed to stop their latest charge, and the mass of shadows seemed to fall back upon confusion; some of their number tried to advance while others retreated, resulting in a clusterflock of shadowy beasts!

Whereas the troopers... Terra forgive them. They tried so hard, they really did. Apparently, years of training and drills were lost on them though, as each one of them seemed to go full auto on anything that didn't move. It seemed like they shot everything BUT the enemy and, luckily, each other.

Trooper Cassidy tried to follow Griswold's example, but had to stop his tactical retreat when someone's energy rifle nearly took his head off!

So yeah. That round was kind of an embarrassment for everyone. Do over?

As the flatswarm churned, Griswold tried to adjust his sights between his fellow troops and get a solid hit in on the stupid aliens before they came to a consensus.

He managed to find his shot and let fly between the less coordinated members of his squad.

"Buggers on the run now. Well boys, let's give them some good old part'n fire." Zeke levels Patchenko down and aims at the shadow beasts.

Right after he fires, he senses Ol Griswold's shot coming from behind. "Sorry Friend. Too slow."
