As Kagae gives up and heads off, Masuyo instead reactively shuts Kojiro down, an atemi strike causing his muscles to freeze up. While chain is tight around the man's throat, she can remove it without difficulty, causing the man to gasp for air and cough in pain.
Mind you, the paralysis will only last for about 15 seconds, give or take a few.

Her relief was twofold, and she quickly made sure to remove the chain from her charge's neck and then remove the weapon entirely from her "ally"s grasp. "We are Samurai, as you say. We honor our word and respect the word of another. By my oath and with Tamori as my witness. No. Harm. Will be done to my patients."
Just to make sure she got her point across she began chanting a prayer to the Kami, counting on the fact that nobody present was monk or shugenja and thus would not know what she was saying. Only that a dangerous spell was sure to follow such things.

The anger was readily apparent on Kojiro's face as he shouted to the Dragon. "He's not your patient, woman. He and his 'friends' have murdered and defiled the body of a Jade Magistrate and have done Kami knows what el..." The scorpion's eyes widened as the shugenja began chanting what seemed to be a spell. It was as if his sword flew into his hand and between the space occupying him and Masuyo, the cutting edge held less than a centimeter away from the Dragon's throat before she could finish the spell. "We are not enemies here. I have sworn to avenge Asako-sama's murder. Do not stand between me and that oath."
Kojiro would back away and sheathe his sword, warily keeping Masuyo under observation. "Well? Go on! Tend to your 'patient!' "

The adrenaline returned as she suddenly found herself staring down a sword. Now that was one reaction she hadn't considered. But it was too late now. She had to choose her words carefully to maintain face with both the bushi and the invader, and when it took two conflicting sets of words... well, she could only lament that of all the people these monsters could have left her with, it had to be these two. Too late.
She stared down the Scorpion, undaunted and hard as the earth that blessed her, she reached up to push the sword away, but to her surprise he was already withdrawing it himself. A secret sigh, but it wasn't enough. "Is your oath to a dead man more important than the lives of two who may yet live? If so then cut me down here. If not, leave us."
She hated to instill the idea in the man's head that keeping such knowledge secret might affect the result of this encounter, but to handle an angry Scorpion she had little choice. She only wished the fool had waited until they were out of earshot. Then she could have explained and apologized all he needed. Too late.
With nothing else for it, she finally turned to the cloaked man and crouched in front of him to bring them both on the same level. "I cannot promise your safety, but death is what you seek anyway, yes? Let's talk about our demise, then. Why do you want to kill us?"

If Kojiro could scream, he would. If the Scorpion could burn the place down, he would. For the moment, it looked like the two people he was left with could take care of themselves, so Kojiro would attempt to backtrack the cultist to wherever he came from.

@ Masuyo:
After Kojiro left, the man would look to Masuyo, hazy eyes trying to perceive her in the poor illumination.
"Two, huh? Jigoku. That's... actually kind of bad. Fascinating for my masters though," he would say, making casual conversation. He attempted to gesture with a hand, but found the motion impossible.
"Your presence here has already complicated things greatly. Samurai are... difficult to deal with, sometimes," he would begin to explain, leaning his body to look towards the doorway, half-expecting Kojiro to be standing there. "Our options are to either kill you or drive you away. The former seemed like the easier path. No offense, of course."
--------------------
@ Kojiro:
You can't seem to make heads or tails of anything out here at night. You can make another attempt during the day, but at this point, the only one who you can reliably track is Kagae; half because of his weighted footfalls, half because you can still hear him moving in his armor.
--------------------
@ Kagae:
As you begin to make your rounds, your Perception 3 definitely warns you of sounds... whimpering?... coming from your general area, some ways away from the temple you were staying in. The reason I'm not asking you to make a check is because you find the source soon enough.
In one of the spiked pits he had laid, a man, robed similarly to the one they had captured, lay impaled on several of the barbed objects at the bottom. He was a good decade younger than the other one but his head was likewise completely shaven.
Poles pieced through many parts of his body, including both legs, an arm, and several places on his torso. He was bleeding profusely, but he was still alive. And in a state of shock apparently, as he began to bawl as soon as he saw Kagae.
"Pl-please! Help me! I... I'm in so much pain! Please, you must save me! I'll do anything! I beg of you, p-please!"

Kagae crouched down next to the pit looking down at what he caught looking back and forth from the pit to his blade.
"Hmmm..." Hummed Kagae thoughtfully, "what have I caught here then? Another person who wishes to do me harm but wishes for me to save him, I should let him rot, yes? We caught your assassin as assassins go he wasn't very good and I dare say it hasn't left me in the best of moods and killing you would probably make me feel better. Convince me to save you."

Because he had nothing better to do, Kojiro would creep back towards the camp as stealth fully as possible. He really wasn't needed. He really wasn't useful. Perhaps he'd just sit back while this thing resolved itself.

The little Dragon sighed and sat back. The man was clever in all the worst ways, and she was both familiar with and unaccustomed to the attitude she had to take with him.
"Hm." she responded, as if to say "no offense taken". Something she had a hard time convincing herself of; practical as it was, she had distanced herself from the Kitsuki for a reason. Still, she could play the part, as evidence when she responded equally casually, "Looks like you were wrong. My name is Kitsuki Masuyo, daughter of High Investigator Kitsuki Taiten, Disciple of Togashi Kirito, and Priestess of Tamori Shaitung. Do you know what this means?"
To emphasize her point she whispered the last word to her spell and... pretended like she was still casting.

@ Kagae:
"Please! By the kami, please! AAAAH!" the young cloaked man would cry out, as if he went to reach for Kagae and had his wounds agitated thusly. "I don't know what you want! I'm sorry! Please, you can't leave me like this! It hurts! It hurts! I... I don't want..."
At this points, tears flowed freely from the young man's eyes.
"I don't want to die!"
--------------------
@ Masuyo & Kojiro:
"Not a clue. Honestly, your name will only mean anything if you leave these mountains; if you choose to remain, you will die and be lost in anonymity, and no one will mourn your passing."
He seemed either indifferent or ignorant of your attempts to cast a spell.

She wasn't sure if she was saying something wrong or if the kami just weren't interested (a problem she tended to have with Fire kami), but just in case she removed the scroll from the pouch she always kept at her side and strained to read it, this time beseeching the kami exactly as instructed. "Fire~" What's more, they actually listened! She held out a hand to receive the gift, concentrating to make sure the glowing ball of pure fire remained floating above it.
"It means the kami themselves are happy to answer my prayers. You've already seen what I can do with a mere touch. And if you really need more proof you should ask your masters why the kansen fear us." she continued, still casual. No threats. Just facts. "But to be honest, right now I would love nothing more than to follow your advice. I know you are forbidden to tell me what is going on here, or why, but if you can help me find my friends we will leave."

@ Masuyo & Kojiro:
Masuyo manages to summon a small orb of fire that would hover over her hand; it heated the area around it and bathed the room with light, but otherwise did nothing else but exist.
The man turned his gaze away from the sudden appearance of bright light, wincing slightly. Though as Masuyo went on...
He would laugh. A hearty, enthusiastic laugh.
"You really don't know anything, do you? Your group just kind of blundered yourselves into Boar lands by accident? I'm not sure if my masters will be pissed or pleased to hear this. I can see it going either way... Hah."
Turning to look at Masuyo again, he would sneer. "In that case, I definitely can't afford to tell you anything." The sneer faded, though, and he would look briefly thoughtful. "Well, except that your friends are dead. You wait for nothing. You very well might be the last one still alive at this point."
--------------------
@ Kagae:
"I fell in as we were searching for you! We were ordered to kill you, but I'm sorry! I wouldn't have done it, but I had to make it look like I was! I wouldn't hurt a fly! Please, you have to believe me! Help! By the kami, it hurts so much!"
His eyes adjusted, Kagae could make out the darkened earth beneath the man; he was bleeding heavily, and probably didn't have much time left.
"I can't... I can't feel my legs. I'm going to... I don't want to die! I'll tell you anything you want, just get me out of here. I'm scared!"
