Well aren't they all from Microsoft, so they should cost roughly the same?

I've been using the recovery disk, but it hasn't fixed it. I know that the problem is a corrupt registry file and the only way I have seen to fix it is to to perform a repair install of Windows that will replace that file.

The only other option is a clean install, which would wipe my hard drive. I would rather pay $100 dollars for a install CD than lose all my files.

Aha, I have found out that I can use Linux to access my files. If I can't fix it from Linux, I'll just transfer my files and do a clean install. Now I just need a backup hard drive or large USB flash drive. confused

I may not have fixed the problem, but I have found a way to work around it. Linux gives me the bare necessities to get me until the end of the semester. 3nodding

I also have access to an anti-virus scanner, so if a virus is causing my problem, I'm going to get it. 3nodding
