Kojiro awoke with a jolt, it seemed like someone was going to try to murder them in their sleep! The Scorpion drew his Kusari-gami as quietly as he could and carefully moved into chain range. He would question this pig before killing him off!

Masuyo awoke with the biggest start of her life. Not necessarily because of the scream; in fact, that was almost expected. What she hadn't expected, however, was the dark, knife-wielding figure standing right over her. Normal (mostly) passive nature gave way to sheer instincts. Fight or flight, and despite her displays of altruism she was a fighter.

Awaking from the blood curdling scream Kagae would exclaim, "It worked!" but when he looked around to see if he woke the rest he would see the man playing murder in the dark and Kagae would begin reaching for his katana.

The cultist was hovering over Masuyo, weapon readied. Kagae, Masuyo, you wake up! Kojiro didn't seem to wake ********> the man exclaims and rather than go for a clean kill, just makes a quick slice at her midsection before leaping to his feet! He slashes horizontally, cutting a nice slice across Masuyo's blanket, but misses cutting any of her flesh as he misjudges the distance due to the dim lighting.
Kojiro, Kagae, each of you are 15' away from Masuyo and her assailant - none of your weapons nor armor are readied for this battle (meaning no iaijutsu for quick draws, simple actions are required to arm yourselves). Remember, standing up from prone is a simple action as well.
Masuyo, you have a pale man in dark robes standing over you, and his strange-looking knife glistens in the moonlight! You have a +2 TN penalty for being on "lower" ground.

As soon as she could shake the sluggish daze off of her (if not sooner), Masuyo was springing to her feet. Unfortunately it seemed it was not soon enough as she felt the deadly weapon slice through the fabric wrapped around her. She wasn't sure whether it was adrenaline that caused her not to feel the strike or if she had just been very lucky... she was also extremely surprised and concerned that her trusted companion hadn't woken her up when a strange man was so close, but there wasn't any time for that. With the imminent danger so close she could only strike out with trained proficiency at her attacker, aiming for a vulnerable spot to which she could force her will upon his chi.

Fubuki awoke along with everyone else - that is to say, with a start. Fubuki is well aware of the current situation and is barking at the intruder!
The robed man appears to be unarmored! You suffer no Atemi penalty.
His contested Water roll is a whopping 7.

Kojiro jumps up in alarm from his sleeping position, grabbing his nearby yumi that was propped up against the wall and a conveniently placed arrow. Not bothering to take aim, he hastily let his projectile fly!
Fwsshh!
... he didn't hit Masuyo, the strange man, or even the wall. Maybe it went through a window, or a crack in the wall? Where ever that arrow went, only the Fortunes knew.
Nothing says awake like ZOMGKNIFE, so Masuyo was quickly awake. Kipping up, she would last out with the gentlest strike to the center of the man's torso - a blow that seemed to be the gentlest touch, but the man froze up instantly.
Suddenly, KAGAE'S THE JUGGERNAUT, b***h! Barreling across the room, Kagae tackled the man to the floor in a blazing and somewhat surprising level of ferocity! The man still managed to hold on to the knife (perhaps by willpower alone), but was now sprawled at Kagae's and Masuyo's feet, unmoving!
Everyone, roll me Tides of Battle! Kojiro may only increase his own initiative with the roll.
