Damn. It'd be sad to have the site go. I met my fiancee on this site and he's next to me now! I also met some of my best friends here, but I have noticed the site turn to money-starved garbage. Actually, the only reason I have been logging on is this theme challenge haha.
I was also dismayed to find or, not find, rather... artists willing to trade their time for fake currency HAHA /dies. This site used to be a more reliable art-trade service in a round-about way. Pure art trades tend to end with me empty handed, but gaia gold used to be kind of like a go-between that the artist would be more willing to accept. okay sorry for the rant! END
I should add that I'm a pessimist. XD So take my dire warnings with a grain of salt (although I still wouldn't spend real money on the site.)
That's a really good point, about the how Gaia used to work for art trading like that and it doesn't so much anymore. It sucks to think of how hard I used to work for 1 mil gold, and then I was sitting on that gold when the inflation hit so now it's worthless. I'm now getting 1 mil offers for warm up sketches (not quite but close).
I wanted to get some couple art for my honey, but looks like I'll have to just blow my gold on what I can get. I saw 200mil being thrown around like it was nothing! @___@:: imlikeWAT I remember scrounging around the house for enough money to buy the monthlies back when those were exciting, haha.
Sometimes I am curious what I'd get if opened an auction, but then... ehh what would I spend it on...
That moment when art requests refuse to bow down to your long practiced and much better skills? That was me the last two days. gonk I honestly didn't think I'd have this much trouble getting a 'quick sketch' done. The Mona Lisa made me fall asleep, and church ceilings keep me wide awake. This piece refused to stay traditional. ;.;
...That has to be weird.
I'd order art requests, but I never have enough to begin with. I've seen works that rivaled my elementary years priced at 50k and I wonder what the glory is in that. I should feel elated; the final products I could afford are always..'eh' though. I got more joy in freebie work that I received. That scared me.

I'm actually planning on doing a quick solo auction, just to see what I can get. XD Plus I want to bid on this auction that is currently at 200mil... but I'm friends those artists and I know they'll hit my characters out of the park.
I still think the idea of an auction for this group is great... I'm just not crazy about putting the money towards a prize next year. XD I suppose we could do it just for fun and split the proceeds.

Yeah, I've paid millions (back when that meant something) and received gorgeous art... or received terrible art. xp I've also gotten great stuff for almost nothing. It's kinda a crapshoot.
Doesn't help that my characters are hard to draw by most Gaian's standards.

Day 24 - Whispered Secret
Quote:
Marielle smiled and demured her eyes. “What about you? Meet any interested young men in Montagne?”
“Oh, plenty of men who were interested. Just none who were interesting.” Piera rolled her eyes. “Nothing like this fetching piece. Whelani sailor-turned-scholar, hmm? How are your studies going?” She leaned in.
Marielle grabbed her arm and whispered something in her ear.
Piera let out a shriek of laughter. “Oh, you are naughty! I'll tell your mother!” She pushed playfully on Marielle's arm.
Ben felt his face flush hot. Suddenly, he noticed all the heads that turned toward them every time Piera let out one of her fantastic outbursts. He pulled his collar up around his face. “My—my studies are going quite well, thank you.”
Piera snickered behind her gloved hand. “I would say they are, sweetie, they are. I love your accent.”
“Thanks.” He didn't think it possible, but he blushed even harder.
An ear-rending shriek echoed through the courtyard. Ben reached instinctively for his knife but before he could draw it, Marielle had peeled off, laughing manicly. She dashed off, skirting pedestrians and puddles of ice, to be enveloped in an explosion of pink and yellow fabric. High-pitched giggling filled the yard.
He ambled over, letting his racing heart calm. “This a friend of yours, Marielle?” he asked.
“Oh Ben!” Marielle said, her cheeks flushed dark. “This is Piera Nicolette, my dearest friend. Piera, Ben.”
“Hi,” Ben said. He held up his hand in greeting.
Piera looked him up and down with wide blue eyes, then screamed behind her gloves. “This is him, then?” She bounced on her heels, setting the pink ruffles of her skirt quivering. “I've heard soooooo much about you, Mr. Morley!”
“You have?” Ben raised his eyebrows.
“Oh yes, Marielle has sent me ever so many letters. My family has been abroad for the winter. We just missed Marielle's return to Poitionne. But she told me all about it!” Peira's maple-colored curls bounced as she took his hand in hers and clasped it to her silk-clad bodice. And Ben thought that Marielle owned expensive clothes.
“That's great!” Ben wasn't sure what else to say. Peira took over a conversation... like Jake, only a hell of a lot more excitable.
“He's absolutely gorgeous, Marielle.” She dropped her voice down to a growl. “Better watch out, or I'll just eat him up.”
“Oh, are you a...?” Ben started, then realized that it might be best not to talk about Marielle's zouodynama where just anyone could hear. He wasn't even sure that Piera knew.
But Marielle laughed and cut in. “Oh no, Piera non-dynamic. Not every Ombiterran has dynama, you know.”
Sometimes Ben wondered. As a non-dynamic himself, it sometimes felt like everyone in Poitionne could do something he couldn't.
Piera gave a long shuddering sigh. “Alas, May-May's right. I'm nothing special.”
“Oh honey, you are wonderfully special.” Marielle wrapped her arms around her friend. “You don't want my type of dynama, anyway. It's more trouble than it's worth.”
“Maybe you're right, May-May.” Piera formed her lips into a perfect pout but returned the hug. “Just just look at you! All grown up, and courting such a handsome young man.”
Marielle smiled and demured her eyes. “What about you? Meet any interested young men in Montagne?”
