Tweaked the Archery contest rules early this morning (something I forgot), and the Taryu-Jiai rules after a long time considering.
The Archery contest is adjusted so that narrow misses of the TN's are still hit. I had intended to include it but had forgotten when I wrote it up.
The Taryu-Jiai rules have been adjusted to NOT make Earth and Air rings superior (Fire and Water were basically useless, with the exception of using Fire to go Full Defense, but that's kinda silly). Now, Fire gives a bonus to attack rolls, and damage isn't measured simply by surpassing the TN (because raises would be useless, and it quite simply states that raises should be an option).
Earth still determines wounds and Air still determines TN to be Hit, but now Fire works like an emphasis on Attack Rolls, and Water works like an emphasis on Damage Rolls. Damage is now determined by the avatar's Ring and the caster's School Rank.

*Skulks away as he remembers you do not keep all the dice* ><
Hrrm...if I'm reading the rules right as Rain's updated them, you're still in it, Keith. 40 points for missing the 60 point bracket by one. 60 points for hitting the 60 pt bracket.

Yup. Not matter, as soon as that target gets moved back 5', I'm screwed. I'm still forgetting to use Bishamon's Blessing.

Bishamon's blessing only benefits damage rolls.
40 points for the first shot, 60 points for the second, 40 points for the third.
Just waiting on a fluffy post before we move on smile

I....
I could actually win this, maybe? Seriously?
Why is it the dice love Jonn and Denbe's skill checks so much? Are they telling me to play noncombatants?
...also, writing over 30 lines of original fable on the fly is hard. Not quite happy with that one, but it'll do, pig. It'll do.

I'd say hit up the l5R wikia and look for interesting threads there. IIRC the campaign is in 1151, so basing a tale off of someone who did their deeds past then may be a no no, but everything else would be fair game. Perhaps a tale on Reichin? http://l5r.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

Raw ability vs. Skill. An interesting debate, eh?

Plainsfox Raw ability vs. Skill. An interesting debate, eh? Not entirely. I vote for skill. I didn't spend most of my life in a forge to be out done at making a sword by some runt.

I just bring it up because Raga's Kakita rolls 6k4 and has 2 Kyujutsu.
Kojiro rolls 6k3 and has 3 Kyujutsu. This gives him the ability to make one more raise than Zanzen and also gives him a -5 bonus to his TN to offset range penalties.
Edit: I obsessed over the keep portion just a little ><

Sets up chair and prepares for a crane and scorpion fight. This should be fun.
