Masuyo frowned, both concerned and relieved. "You're right. They're not very good at all... okay, let's play!"
The little Dragon would legitimately spend some time searching for the elusive little thing, but was very much unsurprised when she never found it. Eventually she returned to the others (or whoever remained) to relay the good news.
"Good news, everyone! That air Kami is so well hidden, no one will EVER find it! Oh, and also the people you're looking for have left the city..."

Hearing the news that the murderers had left the city Kagae would quickly consult a piece of parchment before rising. Giving Kojiro a small kick to get his attention he would say,
"Come on Kojiro-san, it looks like my work isn't done bring the lantern or any other light source we may need the extra light but don't light it now."
He would the again obtain a bundle from his travel pack and see if Kojiro was following.

Kojiro checks the oil for the lantern to see how much there is. If there isn't enough, he'll do what he can to scrounge up another torch...and then follow the Crab.

Kojiro, your lantern only has enough fuel for MAYBE 20 minutes. You used a lot of it checking the castle.
However, you are able to find a piece of wood and some paper to make a makeshift torch - not a long-lasting one, but one that will easily last the hour so Kagae can complete his work.
Kagae, with Kojiro aiding you with a light source, you don't need to worry about any penalties to your crafting rolls!
This leaves just Denbe to react to Masuyo, if he has any reaction at all. Masuyo, you might be finding him at a well, if you or he wants.

Kagae would lead Kojiro to the main entrance of the city and set down the bundle. "You can start a light up now Kojiro-san. I only really brought you along to shed some light onto the situation. Hah hah..." Laughed Kagae dryly at his bad attempt at a joke before reaching into the bundle, pulling out a piece of parchment and handing it to Kojiro, "something to keep you entertained, I went round the whole city mapping the entire thing and that's the result. Not bad for someone who has only read maps before, eh? Anyways there is another entrance at the back of the city which faces the mountainside, which we'll be visiting after this also the crosses denote traps I've laid down in the city already so try to remember where they are if you decide to go on a walk."
Kagae would then unwrap the bundle and take a spade out, begin digging a shallow trench big enough to have a foot slip into it and fill it with spikes.
"Keep a watch out will you also I'd rather not get kidnapped while doing something to make us safer."

After finishing camouflaging the trap Kagae would pack up and lead Kojiro to the second entrance where he would do a similar job. Seemingly satisfied with his work he would motion to head back to the temple.
"Hopefully this way we'll know if they're back by a loud howl of pain."

The Hare frowned deeply at that, sitting and considering. They had left the city. It seemed so much like they were seeking something within, but... had they frightened them off?
No. If they'd been here when the magistrate arrived, and were still, they were probably staying outside somewhere. A cave, a hut, somewhere close enough to see people coming. Perhaps even enough to visit and return within any given day. But even so, that would leave far too much land to comb for a possibly hidden place, or remains of a moving campsite. They were having enough trouble with the city as was.
Putting the dagger up, he pondered as the others left, he looked around, at a loss for where to go from here, and finally to the shugenja.
"So the kami is... hiding?"
It was conversation, anyway.

The little Dragon smiled back at Denbe. Now that she thought about it, it certainly made sense for a Hare to be the only one curious about a shugenja's interactions with the Kami.
"Mm." she responded with an affirmative nod. "We were playing hide-and-seek. Needless to say, he was a lot better than our mysterious human friends."

Despite that Denbe knew a few things about how a shugenja communicated with spirits and talked to them, he had to imagine that it would be rather hard to find a spirit that could probably become invisible if it willed it so. Not to mention any number of other things.
If he remembered right, air spirits were generally playful. So that made some sense.
"It is good to know they're not in the city at least. It tells us how to proceed, if not where to find them. I'm very thankful that we've had you here to lend us your aid."
He didn't want to imagine how different this would have been without her. They would have swept the whole city and been left wondering.
"The kami..." he mused, lacking a productive line to follow until the others returned and they could plan for the next day or assign watch. "What is it like, to hear them speak? Do you hear their voices in Rokugani tongue, or...?"

"Oh. Th-think nothing of it..." she responded as she turned away to hide her steadily darkening cheeks. It was quite fortunate he distracted her with another topic when he did.
The kami... at that she gazed off dreamily. "I suppose that's accurate... they don't 'speak' x'actly, but if you've an ear for it, y'know what they're sayin'. 's as if their words go right in't'your head."

Denbe nodded to that, but hadn't much time to get into deep thought and conjure any meaningful response before he caught signs of the return of their other bushi. Winding down, he did what he could to prepare himself for the night before taking his shift of the watch first.
