Kojiro nodded as he ran. His only concerns were the other Jade Wardens and how they might be doing....unfortunately, he got no closer than the struggling Miya-chan.

@ Kagae: By "initiative", I mean "you have initiative".
@ Kagae's Perception Check: Now that you aren't trying to keep your head down, you are able to use the trajectory of the shot fired at a different target, based on yours and Iwao's/Sanzo's position, to triangulate the sniper's positioning.
He's about 20 feet up in a tree at the edge of the woodline! His priority has seemed to shift towards meatier, less armored targets!

Kagae. spotting Sotan with a Katana looking awfully similar to his, he decided to be a bit hida for a moment. Shouting a very loud battlecry he charged straight a Sotan hoping to cull the man from rokugan to retrieve his daisho.

Kagae would rush across the debris of the fallen home, recklessly throwing the weighted end of the chain weapon at the heavily injured Sotan in an effort to take him down and reclaim what he would easily recognize as HIS katana. However, with a combination of his wounds, the lack of training with the Kusarigama, and fighting on uneven ground (another +5 penalty, that he shares with Denbe and Sotan), he came nowhere close to hitting the bandit, the end of the chain sailing by.
Shogo the bandit seemed a little bewildered what to do next. He didn't want to engage TWO samurai, NOR that angry magistrate. He would see Bayushi Sanzo retreat though, and would take up chase against him.
Neither Kojiro nor Miyako arrive this turn!
"Enough of this," Kuemon would say, glaring at Machiko angrily, growling lowly versus the woman. He would push back with his own katana, throwing her off balance, before making a strike of his own.

With a simple upward slash, he cut through Machiko's torso, spraying blood everywhere. She dropped her own katana, and threatened to drop immediately, but through sheer willpower, managed to remain standing - though in no condition to fight. Kuemon then darted away from the action, off to his right.

"Kaiu-sama!"
Watching the magistrate fall and Kuemon bolt before he could do anything to stop it, Denbe ground his teeth, gripping his katana, and focused on Sotan's ineffective assault again.
"I'm sorry Kagae-san," the Hare said, moving to take the killing blow with a simple, but sweet, slash across the bandit. Both for trying to finish him himself, and his next words.
"Your wakazashi was within the building. I couldn't collect it before the hut collapsed, but I swear I shall dig it out once the battle ends," bending over, he took the katana from Sotan's hands (hopefully) and presented it to Kagae. "Please see to the magistrate, and then find our Scorpion companions and bring them after. Iwao and I will need the help," and, with that, bolted to try not to be left in the dust of all the others- or, at least, not to leave Iwao surrounded and alone.

As Kuemon headed west to go around the ruins, Denbe would decisively cut down Sotan, his katana digging deeply into his chest! Sotan's eyes would roll up in his head as he slumped to the ground, releasing Kagae's katana dinging as it landed upon ruined rubble!
Rather than try to intercept Kuemon, Denbe instead turned and began to hurry after Shogo, figuring his destination was much more obvious.
Not one to resist an easy target, one of the remaining bandits would take aim at a heavily injured magistrate...
49 vs TN 14+10, with 2 raises for a called shot to the heart. 18 damage.
With a very audible twang from a bowstring, a whistling arrow would pierce the night, and Machiko's heart. With one last gasp, the force of the impact would throw the Kaiu woman back a few feet and into the burning rubble, where she remained still.
Kagae, you're up! Denbe, Tides of Battle! Kojiro, Miyako, athletics rolls!

Kagae snatched up his katana and quickly scuttled behind a wall which would give him cover from the archer since it was up in a tree.
(defense 5k3+2dice for explosions vs tn 25 or more. Result: 28 )
