Kani finally got control of herself. "Let's go, sweetheart. Let's go home," she said quietly, standing and wiping her eyes.

Moni nodded and took her back home and settled her on the cot. THey'd agreed to keep her away from the feathers since she needed to stay cool.

Kina smiled and hugged him gently. "Thank you all for taking such good care of me. I feel much better now."

Moni smiled at the thanks and nodded, kissing her cheek and making sure that she was comfortable.

Just then, Maria came down from the guest bedroom Fryma had added. "Mama, Moni, are we ever going to go back to the farm?"

Moni looked down a little. He shook his head. The farm was burned beyond compare, and the animals either escaped or were stolen. There was nothing to go back to.

Maria tilted her head. "How come? Is the fire that bad?" She had been there with Kina when the fire started, and it hadn't been anyone's fault. It had been a freak accident, but the village had refused to come help them put it out.

Moni nodded in answer. It was uninhabitable and unstable as it was now, with several areas collapsed. Also, there was nothing to sustain them financially.

"Okay. So, we get to live here forever?" Maria smiled excitedly and happily.

Moni smiled, nodding, when the chipmunk woke up and scurried over and up to his shoulder, making him smile even more and pet the adorable rodent. The chipmunk chattered and cuddled closer.

Maria giggled and reached out to pet the chipmunk. "You're so cute," she cooed, stroking his ears.

The chipmunk leaned into the stroking and crawled over to her shoulder, Moni beaming. It seemed his pet liked his sister too. HE was glad that the chipmunk was comfortable around her even though she was a human.

Fryma came down when he heard Maria giggling and smiled when he saw the chipmunk burrowing in her hair. "It seems everyone is doing okay," he chuckled.

Moni nodded, giggling silently. He left her to play with the chipmunk, curling up in the bed. He was a little tired after seeing his old home destroyed, so he wanted a small nap.

Fryma came in behind him and sat on the edge of the bed, a hand resting on Moni's shoulder. "I think everything's going to be just fine now. There are protection spells to keep us safe and we're all living together now. Maybe one day, we'll migrate away from each other, but that's the future. Right now, everything will be just fine," he murmured, trying to reassure the exhaustion and pain he was sure Moni would be feeling after such a journey.
