Ryusuke Mitsurugi ~Ming Yun~ Ryusuke Mitsurugi So basically, you guys are saying that I wont have a good time because Im not a pro. Because Im a casual player. I say you should shut up because you dont know what you're saying. I lose all the time. So? I still have fun. Ive lost so many times you would quit. I havent quit. Ive only gotten better. I dont know how to wavedash. It doesnt mean I'll never learn. I think you guys should just do you and let everyone do them. If you fight a noob, fight 'em. It shouldnt be a big deal. No one ever stated that noobs won't be able to have fun. Learn to read the first post properly.
The argument here is the skill gap between the casual player and the advanced player - whether it'll become greater or shorter with the coming of SSBB.
Furthermore, ArcVyse only stated that those arrogant players who think they are "pro" are going to be surprised when techniques implements in melee will be brought into brawl, when they realize they aren't so great.
Finally, no post has stated that noobs cannot have fun minus that of Sparda's whose argument is filled with holes. People can have fun when they lose; on top of that, people will just find those with their similar skill level online.
Sadly, Smash now isn't "just a game". Look at SephirothKen who earned $100,000 playing this game. >_>You are correct. Forgive me for the earlier rant. I guess reading Sparda's post angered me. As far as the argument goes, there's no telling how the gap will go. We'll just have to wait and see. Lastly, Smash will always be just a game. Just like every sport. The fact that that man won all that money just shows how much he was willing to sacifice for that game. i said the point is to have fun. i stated that people who don't have fun need to lighten up. my god does no one listen.

dante_sparta first the names is sparta. and also, i stated that the point is to have fun. i never said that competitive play wasn't fun but that winning or losing shouldn't matter. i also said that noobs should have fun but those who only play to win ruin it for everyone else. maybe you should understand better what people are trying to say before you dis them. He never said anything to insult you. But you know, playing to win does not mean you're going to get angry when you lose. People who play to win who lose are the people who are going to think about how and why they lost and then pick up the controller again. Sure, they might ruin it for others because they take the game seriously and use things that might be considered "cheap", but that's not their fault. It would be the fault of those who get angry at playing to win because they're not taking the game seriously enough to use "cheap" tactics.

Actually, my friends and I try not to use "cheap" tactics. We consider such tactics to be gay. But, yeah, i concur with Sio.

Well, I don't see why you wouldn't use "cheap" tactics. I mean, if all of you use it, then you're all on even ground again. Your next step from that is to find something cheap from that point and keep improving like that.

Thats what we do, Sio. My friend's main is Link. He barely uses him against us. He is always using somebody else and winning. My other friend is doing the same. He wins some of the time. I always use Dr. Mario because Im really not good with anybody else. Now, I rarely win but I do get better. And Ganondorf is my Main. Im not on equal ground with them but I follow their rules because thats how I get better. Its not fair just to be cheap so that I can win against them.

Should I go ahead and presume you're referring to advanced techniques? Actually, after reading Vyse's sticky on how to execute advanced tactics, I completely confirm that my friends and I do not use such tactics. I didnt even know how to wavedash til today. And Im pretty sure my friends dont, either. However, if Sio was referring to advanced tactics as "cheap", Im referring to something totally different. Im talking bout stealing KOs, playing like a dickhead, always using ur main, repeating the same move and etc.

Ryusuke Mitsurugi Im talking bout stealing KOs, playing like a dickhead, always using ur main, repeating the same move and etc. That's what I'm referring to. And that's what I meant by cheap. Stealing KOs isn't a big deal with us, we usually play one-on-ones anyway. I don't understand what you mean by playing like a dickhead, but if you mean trashtalking, well, that could be considered a mindgame. There's no problem with always using your main, it just means you know who he's always going to pick so you can always counterpick. For example, if he picks Falco, pick Marth. Although, I'm not really sure that's a counterpick. I forget who's a counter to who sometimes. And repeating the same move isn't cheap. If you read Sirlin's article on playing to win, you would realize that it'd be stupid not to use that move if it works so well. If your friends can't figure their way around an attack, well, sucks to be them.

Pretty much. In Smash you do whatever it takes to win.
If your opponent sees it as cheap then that means they might not know a way around it, so therefore keep doing it and the victory should be yours.

Yeah, Sio, what I'm about to say will probably support your "main charrie" statement. See, my Melee main is Samus (Metroid PWNs, can't wait for Prime 3), and one of her main keys is to air-juggle. However, if my opponent tries to counter that, I've got plenty of ways to disrupt that strategy, such as her Down+A attack (not the Smash). Not only that, but I also tend to use Roll Dodge-Side Smash combo, and in multiplayer, I always use the C-Stick for that added speed on the Smash. So, basically, it's not just varying your moves; it's also changing up your fighting style to fit the situation.

If your friends can't figure their way around an attack, well, sucks to be them. All true. I could stick with using my main all the time, doing the same old moves, doing absolutely every thing to win and end up being totally predictable. Thats how I use to play. And for the general amount, I would win and think I was a pro. Then I played my friend Josh and I realized I couldnt beat him with the same ol' same ol'. So I decided to switch up and do something new. Play with the other characters, use different stratagies and etc. Ive gotten better since Ive done this. Ive gained finesse, more stratagies, and even more mastery of my main. I still cant beat Josh every time like I would like to, but I do beat him.

I just realized that if SSBB goes online, there will come a day when some kid who plays as Gannondorf and doesn't jump beats you out of sheer luck. I, personally, fear that day sweatdrop
