Hmm... I'm more into the manga side of it (I own more than 1000 books). I don't really care too much for a lot of the new anime that's been coming out. There are a few I like, but not many. Most of my anime collection consists of stuff that's more than 5 years old.
My favorites: Armitage III (the one that hooked me) Sailor Moon Cowboy Bebop Trigun Tenchi Muyo (love Ryoko and Ryo-oki) Ruruoni Kenshin Kyo Kara Maoh! Chobits Witch Hunter Robin Miyazaki movies (Mononke Hime is one I use to hook people) Last Exile (highly recomended! It doesn't get near the recognition it deserves) Ghost in the Shell KITE El Hazard Dual Perfect Blue Fushigi Yuugi Ayashi no Ceres (my favorite series) Magic Knight Rayearth Ah! My Goddess
I know there's more that I really like, but I just can't think of them. My brain tends to freeze up when I try to think of things like this. sweatdrop
If you want manga recommendations let me know 3nodding

okay...lemem start by listing what Mangas I have unpacked so far...
Chobits(First Manga I bought) Inu Yasha King of Hell Love Hina Megatokyo Ragnarok Real Bout High School The All New Tenchi Muyo! Van Von Hunter Warcraft.
My anime is still packed, so I can't really list all that I have, though I will try and list a few from memory...
Cowboy Bebop Noir Chobits Full Metal Panic Full Metal Panic: Fummoffu! Full Metal alchemist Outlaw Star Tenchi Muyo Those Who Hunt Elves Ghost in teh Shell(both Movies, and both Seasons of the Anime) Armitage(both) BubbleGum Crises Photon: The Idiot Adventures
And that's all I can remember off the top of my head. I know there are more, I can see them in my minds eye, I just can't remember what they're callled sweatdrop
I prefer comedy(which isn't that hard to find in Anime or Manga), though I demand a good asskicking every once in awhile. Once I get around to it, I will be purchasing Evangelion, as my fiancee has not seen it, and that is tragedy in and of itself.

Chrystiana, Armitage is the one that hooked me too! (Although I'd been watching anime since I was a kid and never knowing it... Speed Racer, Voltron, etc.) I've always been an animation fan, but until then, I thought it belonged purely in a childhood arena. And then I saw Armitage, which blew me away with its sex, murder and robots. lol
Rena - Yay, another Captain Harlock fan! He's one of my all-time favorites. I've got some VHS copies of the old 70's show, dubbed (horribly) into English, in which he sings in one episode. It's too hokey not to love.

(finding the old U.S. releases is near impossible- one comic book store I went to wanted about $34 for Arcadia of My Youth (the dvd is about 6-7 years old i think) I'm not even going to try to find the vhs tapes... I've downloaded a few fansubs (Arcadia of my youth, and a few eps of the original, and I'm trying to get some of the other series. btw- do you know if the Harlock manga (any) was released in English anywhere ? I'm still trying to hunt down Black Jack, and the 1998 release of GE999. ----------- btw- you had said that you had cosplayed as a KKM character- which character did you cosplay as ? =3

I love Last Exile, I've recomended the series to people but they usually never watch it. ;_; The music is great and the characters are unique and well-designed. heart Dio & Luciola heart Fushigi Yuugi- When anime was hard to find I remember buying the only VHS that a store had in stock (i think it was subbed volume 4 or 5, it had Tasuki and Chichiri on the cover) Instead of waiting for vol. 1. I wanted to see those two the most anyways =3 (if it waited for vol 1 I wouldv'e waited at least a year or 2 considering that particular store..) I remember first watching the opening and I thinking- eek "wow, the animation and characters are gorgeous..."

Rena - Man, Captain Harlock is really that hard to find? I better make sure that my sister hasn't lost our VHS tapes of Arcadia of My Youth and My Youth in Arcadia (yeah, I know they're the same... We were really obsessive and bought both the sub and dub tapes... sweatdrop ). And I should have bought the DVD when I had the chance, but I was totally broke when it finally came out. I do have the Japanese Harlock soundtrack, which covers all of the series and the movie. If you find it, I suggest you snatch it, because it's WONDERFUL.
Yup, he sings to a little girl in one episode. Harlock in the original series was slightly more goofy than his later incarnations.
I don't think the Harlock manga was ever released here. At least, I've never found it and I used to be pretty obsessive about finding stuff like that. Which is weird, since they've released pretty much everything else by Leiji Matsumoto.
I play as Gwendel, but I've also made Gunther and Wolfram costumes for other people. Probably would have made a whole set, except that I couldn't find anyone who wanted to be our Yuri or Conrad.
Ahh, Fushigi Yuugi... That takes me back! That was my first anime tv series. Got it all on VHS fansubs before it was released here. My friend had seen it first and I got so annoyed when she kept dropping spoilers on me before my newest tape had arrived. lol

I use to be real big into anime... but I haven't followed in so long.
Akira MD Geist Project A-Ko Demon City Shinjuku Wicked City Bio Hunter Vampire Hunter D Macross Plus Armitage III Patlabor Ninja Scroll Ghost in the Shell Guyver
I was more into the movies. Never really liked the TV crap. Those are the movies I could think of off the top of my head. sweatdrop
::EDIT:: I'm a little suprised that no one has said Akira. That's a must see for any anime fan! lol

i'm really big into anime and manga...actually, that is how I found out about Gaia...they had an add in Shojo beat (manga magazine). I have been into the genre for years, way back when I was 13 and watching Sailor Moon. I started reading manga about 7 years ago at my brother's insistance, and I now prefer manga to anime. I like alot of different series... Fruits Basket - manga & anime Saiyuki - manga & anime (all the series! Reload, Ginlock...everything about it!! Even the toys! sweatdrop ) Cowboy Bebop - anime (have the manga, but don't like them that much) Samurai Champloo - manga & anime FullMetal Alchemist - manga & anime (I like both equally, even though they are so different) The Wallflower (or Perfect Girl Evolution) - manga (they need to make the anime!) Hot Gimmick - manga Sensual Phrase - manga Tramps like us - manga HanaKimi - manga Haibane Renmai- anime Gantz - anime Loki Ragnarok - anime Trinity Blood - anime Kyo Kara Maoh - anime Last Exile- anime (ah, the greatness!) Megatokyo - manga/webcomic Full Metal Panic! - manga & anime Trigun - anime (haven't tried the manga)
oh god! So many! i have way more than that! What's bad is, I have no friends that like it! My brother is into it, but we live across the country from each other! My boyfriend just thinks that I am strange for liking it...so does my best friend! sweatdrop Oh well, their loss!

Back when I was just getting into anime, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Ninja Scroll were the "must see" movies. So, of course, I saw all of them... and didn't like any of them. (Well, Ninja Scroll had its moments.) I didn't understand Akira or Ghost in the Shell AT ALL.
Now, I think that Miyazaki's movies are the "must see". Although, if I had my way, Memories would be added to that list, since it's a fantastic movie, but was never very popular.

Like many others in this guild, I do enjoy anime and manga. My manga collections is just over 200 (for a list of 'em, here's a link to my virtual manga bookshelf: http://www.justmanga.com/vmb/6594)
As for my anime list...well, here's some of what I own (I saw 'some' becuase I don't remember it all off the top of my head.)
Saiyuki Mirage of Blaze Kaleido Star Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of a Heroic Knight Weiz Kruez: Knight Hunters (I KNOW I spelled that wrong...>.<) Last Exile Nightwalker Fruits Basket Heat Guy J
...and that's all I'm recalling at the moment. I know there's more.

I don't know... I guess I just like the more violent animes. Which reminds me. I forgot to add Crying Freeman and Fist of the Northstar.

I don't really like the more existential animes like Akira and Ghost in the Shell. If I can't figure out what the heck is going on, it annoys me. The notable exception to that would be Evangelion, since the beginning episodes had enough comedy to hook me, so in the end I was so attached to the characters that I didn't care that I couldn't understand the end of the series.
Myself, I prefer horror animes. They're more straightforward.

Yup, seen 'em all, liked them. Loved Demon City Shinjuku, that one's right up my alley. Petshop of Horrors is also one of my favorites, although I wish they'd animated more than just four episodes. The manga is fantastic.
That's one of the reasons I was so disappointed with Trinity Blood... I was hoping for a nice gothic-y horror series, but while the main character is mildly intriguing, the action sequences were animated SO badly that I gave up after four episodes.
