Once, grand spires touched the clouds, and the laughter of a vibrant civilization echoed through its streets. Now, only crumbling edifices and the skeletal remains of what was remained.
Through this silent graveyard walked Xylia, the "Alluring Temptress," as whispers in the few remaining enclaves called her. Her name, however, was a cruel jest, for Xylia tempted no one. She merely existed, a stunning, sorrowful figure adorned in the hues of night and spilled blood. Her raven hair cascaded around shoulders adorned with the ominous, leathery wings of a creature born of shadow and fire. Her eyes, pools of molten ruby, held the weight of forgotten ages, and the delicate tattoos that traced her skin pulsed faintly with a magic that was both a blessing and a curse.
Xylia, miraculously, had survived a slaughter of her family she thought she was the only one who survived, but survival came at a cost. The blight had mutated her, gifting her with these demonic wings and an unyielding longing that gnawed at her soul – a longing for the vibrant life that had once pulsed through her city, for the voices of her kin, for a purpose beyond mere existence.
She walked the ancient thoroughfares, her boots making no sound on the cracked pavement, her gaze sweeping over the ruins that were her heritage. Each crumbling wall held a memory – a children's game, a lovers' quarrel, a grand ceremony. The glowing red embers that occasionally flickered in the debris were not residual magic, but the lingering echoes of the blight's destructive touch, a constant reminder of what had been lost.
Many had tried to seek her out. Some, drawn by her power, hoped she could reverse their fortunes. Others, driven by fear, sought to destroy the "demoness" who still walked among the ruins. But none ever truly reached her. A chilling aura of despair and a subtle, protective magic kept them at bay, leaving them unnerved and retreating into the fading daylight.
Today, however, was different. Xylia felt a tremor in the air, a faint warmth that was not the lingering heat of the day. It was a resonance, a whisper of elemental energy, long dormant, now stirring. Her ruby eyes narrowed, scanning the desolate landscape. Could it be? Could someone from her family have survived a sliver of hope amidst the endless ruin?
As she walked, the red glow on the shattered buildings intensified, and the silence of Veridian was subtly broken by a low hum. Xylia paused, her wings slightly unfurling, a flicker of something akin to anticipation in her ancient eyes.
