☆ ☆【 Marzipan furrowed her brow thoughtfully as she pondered the dilemma of what exactly a Pokemon like this would prefer for food. Pokemon food was a pretty safe default since it was usually tailored to suit the diets of pretty much any and all species, but maybe this particular one had something of a more specific kind of diet. Well… considering it was pretty much made entirely of metal, maybe it preferred food that had a pretty similar composition to its own body. So if her line of thinking was indeed correct… And it seems that she’d come to that conclusion in the nick of time, as it seemed the Meltan had suddenly taken a strangely vested interest in Cybun as it was eyeing up the metallic bunny Pokemon before looking over at the Lopunny, tilting its nut-shaped head curiously as it pointed one of its nub hands towards the little bunny.
”No, dear, that’s not something for you to eat. They’re a friend of ours,” she said sternly as she crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes. The Meltan gave a low, disappointed sounding chirp, its spherical eye contorting into a flat line as it looked away as if in shame. The Lopunny sighed, her disappointed parental visage melting into a softer expression as she beckoned for it to come over, the Meltan obliging if somewhat reluctantly as it rolled its way closer to her. Marzipan leaned down, gently patting the top of its head affectionately with a soft smile, which grew just a bit more as the blob-like Pokemon gave a cheerier sounding tweet at the attention. Though that still left the dilemma of how she was going to help keep this baby Pokemon fed in the meantime… Unless maybe they could find some deposits of metal ore somewhere, she thought she'd seen what looked like mountains in the distance earlier but it would be a bit of a walk to get all the way over there. And she didn't want to just go running off and leave her Cybun companion behind... This would certainly be an issue. Her eyes caught sight of one of the Chanseys as they ambled by, the pink Pokemon perking up when she noticed the Lopunny and her new apparent company.
”Oh! You hatched one of the eggs? That’s fantastic! Nicely done!” the round Pokemon exclaimed as she waddled over, clappig her little round hands together in delight, ”I should quickly mention that if you’re not planning on keeping any of the babies you hatch, you’re welcome to give them over to us to be put up for adoption. We promise to find good new homes for them!” At that, the Meltan immediately shyed away and quickly moved to hide behind Marzipan’s leg, attempting to make itself look as small and unnoticeable as possible as it folded its ooze-like body in on itself. ”Thank you, but I think I’ll be holding onto this one until further notice,” the Lopunny responded curtly, glancing behind her at the little one trying to stay hidden before returning her gaze to the Chansey, ”I actually wanted to ask if you happen to have any spare things lying around that are made of metal, at least ones that you wouldn’t mind giving away.”】☆ ☆

☆ ☆【 The Chansey hummed as her face scrunched up a little in thought for a moment, before perking up with a look of revelation in her eyes. ”I think we do have some spare Iron Balls laying around in one of the storage sheds. We usually save them as prizes to be given out to especially helpful volunteers, but I’m sure at least one or two wouldn’t be missed,” she explained, nodding with a bright smile, ”Wait right there, I shouldn’t be long!” And with that, she was already off as she ambled away quickly back towards the nursery area, leaving Marzipan to heave a sigh of relief that it seemed the issue of their food situation for this strange little metallic baby was solved without much trouble.
Thankfully, it hardly took long for the Chansey to return, clutching a rounded ball of dark grey metal in her hands. ”Here you go! If you’re ever in need of any help, please don’t hesitate to ask us!” The Lopunny nodded, taking the small yet quite heavy ball off of the pink Pokemon’s hands. ”Thank you, I’ll certainly keep that in mind,” she responded, politely waving the Chansey off and turning her attention back towards the still hiding Meltan with an amused chuckle, ”It’s okay, sweetie, the scary pink Pokemon is gone now~” Upon hearing that, the little one chirruped as it wiped a nubby hand across its head as if sighing in relief, rolling its way from where it’d been nestled against the Lopunny’s leg. How cute… She knew she probably shouldn’t be getting as attached to this tiny Pokemon since she wasn’t entirely sure if she wanted to bring it back to Zane when she was done here, but… Arceus dammit, she just couldn’t help herself!
Bending down once more, Marzipan held out the iron ball towards the Meltan, and the reaction was almost immediate as it practically zoomed its way over. Reaching its hands out, the little blob-like Pokemon ran them over the surface of the metal ball, its touch instantly causing the metal to corrode and dissolve as it absorbed it into itself. Very interesting indeed… Hopefully the iron ball should provide enough to feed it whenever it got hungry for however long they’d be spending on this island, at the very least… Otherwise, she wasn’t sure where else they could find a steady supply of metal aside from asking the Chanseys for help or maybe finding some in the rockier kinds of terrains.
When the Meltan finally felt like it had enough to eat for now, there was now a small crater-like hole on the surface of the ball, looking as if maybe it had been thrown with enough force to cause a decent-sized dent. Well, now that just left the question of how she was going to carry this thing… It was quite heavy, no way was she going to put it in with the eggs and risk it rolling around and crushing them. She supposed it wouldn’t be that difficult to just carry it, settling for tucking it underneath her arm while making sure to keep it clear of Cybun’s egg that she still had there as well. Goodness… There has to be an easier way to do this, she might just start running out of arm space to hold everything at this rate. 】☆ ☆

☆ ☆【 The Meltan feeling content and satisfied now that it had gotten an actual, proper meal, it wiggled happily as it seemed to get a burst of energy. And with a new guardian figure at its side to protect it from anything and everything that could be pretty scary, now the little one was wanting a bit of exploration! Its spherical eye bounced up, down, and all around in excitement as it looked around, they’d been staying close to this forest area for a while now and it was a bit eager to get a move on already. Yet it seemed the Lopunny wasn’t willing to just go running off, apparently quite fixated on staying close to that metallic bunny looking Pokemon for some reason… But that was okay! Maybe Meltan could find something else to do in the meantime!
It had noticed Marzipan carrying a lot of those round looking things, she had a whole pouch full of them with her. Was she maybe collecting them…? Oh! What if it was a game where you had to gather as many of the round speckled things as possible? That could be pretty fun! Unable to sit still for long, the Meltan started moving along to see if it could find any more of them laying around somewhere, maybe the Lopunny would appreciate it bringing some more back for her! ”Don’t wander off too far, dear. And stay where I can see you,” Marzipan warned gently yet firmly, not wanting to have to go searching helter-skelter for her ward in case it ended up getting lost somewhere on the island. And Arceus knows how big this whole place really was… doing a clean, thorough sweep of the entire island was going to be one hell of a Herculean task.
The Meltan nodded eagerly, mostly just happy to do a bit of wandering and exploring around as it rolled swiftly along the grass, spherical orb glancing up and around the thick canopy above them as it took in the sights of all the trees. It could even see more of those colorful little assorted shapes hanging high above, how in the world did they get all the way up there? It wondered if maybe Marzipan knew how, it could definitely try to ask her sometime! She might even be able to explain what they actually were, it might have to come up with an easy to remember name to call them in the meantime for future reference. The little ooze-like Pokemon had been so lost in thought as it looked up at the clusters of berries above, it hadn’t exactly paid the most attention to where it was going until it felt its hard head come in contact with something with an audible sounding tap. Flinching back slightly, the Meltan refocused its wandering attention span for a moment, and was immediately greeted by the sight of one of those speckled round things!
And oh! Hold on, apparently it was not one, but three of them just nestled together in a patch of ferns. Jackpot! Surely Marzipan would be so proud if it brought back this good-sized haul, right? The little metallic blob gave an excited warble of joy, clearly quite pleased with its findings as it even waved its arms about in a little jig. Now all that was left was to bring them all back to her… Which, considering how large they were now that it was actually getting a proper look at them, was… probably a lot easier said than done… Though that was hardly going to stop the little guy from trying its damnedest as it approached one of the eggs, wrapping its short little arms around the width of the shell as best it could and pulling at it with what strength its liquid-like body could muster…!
Meanwhile, Marzipan kept close watch on the little one as it set about wandering a little bit of a ways deeper into the forested area, making sure it didn’t stray too far from where she could see or at least hear it from close by. At least in case it happened to run into any trouble, she could get there quickly to help. She tensed up slightly when it disappeared out of her view for a moment, but her apprehension quickly turned to curiosity when she heard the excited sounding noise in that direction. As she started moving to make her way over to see what the situation over there was, the Lopunny’s attention was immediately drawn as she felt the familiar shuddering from within her blanket pouch. And this time it seemed that rather than one, it was actually two eggs preparing to hatch at once! 】☆ ☆

Cloud nodded along to each point Cheri gave. She was very good at that: making good points that made sense. "Oh wow, that's a great idea, Cher Bear!" he gushed, and stopped right in his tracks to marvel at the idea of teleporting; it'd save them so much time! Cloud tipped his body in Cheri's direction. "Question! How do we teleport them there?" It'd just occurred to him that, as many times as he had been teleported, he'd never actually teleported anything. And that was probably an important thing to know how to do when it moving the eggs.

As excited as Cloud was to learn the ways of teleportation (and he was so incredibly excited) the baby pokemon found that their destination was the center of his most of his thoughts. Once they got to the lake they'd be able to do all sorts of awesome things with the eggs: teach them how to swim, give them a quick little wash, and maybe even see if there were other pokemon around to talk to. Although Cloud wasn't the best swimmer, he did love splashing around in it; and the best way to enjoy ice cream was by water!
So, water pokemon were cool. But, Huebert didn't have any water types on his team. So, Cloud hoped there were a few lake pokemon he and Cheri could talk to so that he could ask them a few questions. Plus, one or two of the eggs might've been a water type! So, it was a good thing they were preparing for this.

But, as soon as Cloud had his lake thoughts he had another thought: what was he going to do after the eggs hatched? He could probably take care of one baby pokemon for a little while, and with Cheri's help they could even take care of... five, probably! But, he had five and she had five, and... it was hard to tell when another egg was going to hatch. Cloud hummed and chirped his way across the new question, which was introducing a whole bunch of other questions.
Oh! But... The creases around Cloud's face softened and faded away as he stumbled into a solution. Once Cheri taught him how to use teleportation they could send all the babies back to Chansey, and she'd know how to take care of them! And... he bet if he and Cheri got really good, or maybe they gave each other roles, they could pick up new eggs as soon as the babies hatched!
The Togepi, who was so proud of how quickly and coolly thought of a solution to his own problem, didn't notice that just above him one of his eggs was starting to tremble as hairline fractures erupted across its shell.

"Good." Cheri nodded approvingly. "I hope to meet Huebert someday. He sounds like a good trainer." Because anyone who loved candy and was a trainer of a solid companion as Cloud was someone worth meeting.
The Espurr’s head tilted some at the egg pokemon’s question. "Teleport." What a curious thought; one she’d never thought deeply on before this moment. Lafayette didn’t make use of teleportation, he preferred flying on Dova. But Juliean did. A paw pressed to her mouth again.
"I’m not certain. I believe it’s a skill that some pokemon have. Or people. Both people and pokemon, but people need to use special tools to do it. Or pokemon." That was the limit of her observations. "I cannot teleport. Can you teleport, Cloud?" A silly question, given the young egg, was asking her but you could never be certain. "Maybe one of these eggs will be special enough to teleport and then we can have it help us teleport the others."
Cheri would’ve very much liked to encounter a pokemon that could teach them a thing or two about teleportation. It would be a much easier method of transportation than a rough ride on the back of a pet-child-dragon. At least in her personal and clearly professional opinion. Lafayette wouldn’t enjoy it. But he was simple and would come around with time if she forced him.
Back on task. They were in search of water. A lake. Or a pond, that would work too. Maybe a small puddle if it was deep enough. Would it be? She considered briefly inquiring to Cloud if he thought a puddle would work in place of a lake. In case they didn’t find one, that is.
Cloud brightened like a Christmas tree. "You should meet him! Huebert is a great trainer! And I can meet yours too– maybe he can meet Huebert too!" Cheri really did come up with the best ideas! It'd be great if they could all meet, plus Cloud remembered that she and Huey had texted before too. So, they already sorta knew each other!
"No, I can't," he shook his head glumly as he answered Cheri's question. If neither one of them knew how to teleport then this was going to be a long trip. "One of the eggs?" Cloud repeated her suggestion and gave a thoughtful glance up at his eggs, but what he saw surprised him so much that the Togepi actually gasped instead of exclaiming it. "Look, Cheri!"
Cloud brought all five eggs down to the ground but laid two between himself and his friend. "Look!" he repeated, then pointed at the two as they quivered and bobbled, shedding flecks of shell pieces with every other shudder.

"I would very much like that." At least the meeting Huey part. Cloud (and by proxy Huey) meeting Lafayette was another matter. The Espurr vaguely remembered her trainer’s run in with a child that resulted in the theft of his friend's legendary. She was certain he was still determined to kill said child too. Would that extend to other children? She’d possibly feel bad if something happened to Huey that upset Cloud after all. He was her friend and one had to watch their friends. For the most part.
"What’s wrong?" She focused on the eggs as Cloud set them down, side barring the teleportation concerns for the time being. Did something happen while they’d been floating? Upon closer inspection she noticed it; they were wiggling and bobbing. And flecking! "Oh it’s hatching!" Well that was a bummer, how were they supposed to teach them to swim if they were pokemon and not eggs? Still though, she’d never seen an egg hatch before. It was incredibly exciting. So much so that she didn’t even realize that there was a jiggling going on in her own wagon of eggs.
Cloud held his breath as the eggs continued moving, losing more and more of their shell piece until finally one of the eggs cracked open and a purple blob slithered and flopped out onto the ground. "Oh!" He toddled over quickly, arms extended out to catch the baby that had already fallen. "Dit..." The little blob picked its face up to stare wide-eyed at Cloud, and then Cheri. "It's okay, little one, I'm here!" He reassured and picked the pokemon up. It was a little slimy, probably from just being hatched, but it didn't seem to mind being manhandled. Baby still at arm's length, Cloud looked to the other egg as it gave a particularly loud thump and toppled over, a big-headed dinosaur spilling out of the open shell. "Woah!"
He turned to look at Cheri, absolutely thrilled. "We're gonna have a lot of babies, probably! ...What should we do with them?"

Cheri’s head tilted to the side as a purple blob of a pokemon slithered free from the first of Cloud’s eggs. "Huh," she said pressing a paw over her mouth. Watching the Togepi pick up the baby she moved over and gave it a poke or two. "I don’t think this one is done, Cloud. You should put it back in its egg." She wasn’t familiar with a pokemon that was just a blob. And if such a pokemon did exist… well. This didn’t speak well for their kind's survival now. Her attention shifted as another popped free. "Huh."
Ears wiggled slightly at the sound of chirping and finally, Cheri turned her attention to her wagon. Nestled in one of the eggs was a Pidgey, wildly chirping in alarm at it’s new entrance into the world. Cheri toddled over to check the bird, picking it and its still half-enclosed egg self out of the wagon. This was not a special pokemon. If disappointment could’ve been etched on her face, it would’ve.
Fortunately, she did emote. At all. "We could raise them to be our own personal army. Or teach them to make donuts and cotton candy. I think pokemon could do that." Put babies to work, that was the ticket. She paused though as more sounds of cracking and shaking resonated through the air. They seemed to have a wave of hatchings on their hands.
"Can pokemon come out not done?" Cloud asked both Cheri and the baby itself, though the former only gave a half-melted shrug before it flopped its head back to stare at the sun. Maybe it did need to be put back in its egg. He looked back at the half-opened egg, it would probably fit back in it.. with its lack of bones and structure. "Stay right here," he ordered thoughtfully and placed Blobby next to Big-Face. "Welcome to the world, you two!" Cloud made sure to greet both pokemon with a pat on the head. He wanted to make sure to give equal parts attention to both new arrivals, but there was also Cheri's pokemon to look at! And.. the newest new arrival, who was toddling out of its shell at an awkward shamble. Cloud picked it up as it gave a warbling, "Lo" and leaned into the warmth.
"Whatcha got there, Cher Bear?" He asked, clearly struggling with this new weight; even if it was a newborn, Dish still had a few pounds on him. "I think we could probably teach them to make donuts, and cotton candy, and all things sweet! Maybe they'll be our personal sweets army. Would you like that, Dish? Would you like to learn to make sweets?" Cloud puffed with exertion as he lifted the billed pokemon to his face before ultimately placing him to join his brothers. "Lo!"

There was a brief silence as she mulled over her response. "I think so." Cheri set the squawking baby Pidgey on the ground and moved to remove the next trembling egg. It was probably better to not let them hatch in the wagon, least they break it and then she’d be forced to carry her eggs. Not that she couldn’t, but it seemed such a hassle. "Just a Pidgey. I think it’s hungry." They’d need to figure out feeding procedures, come to think of it.
She set it down nearby just as it reached earthquake level of trembles, egg shards scattering every which way with a stream or two of light escaping the eggs confounds. The Espurr shut her eyes as the light intensified, opening them after a few seconds before craning her neck back to stare up at the large brick fortress before her. It was a grey Janga tower balanced precariously on four haphazardly stacked bricks. Blue eyes peeking from windows spots about its body peered around, taking in its new surroundings curiously.
"I didn’t know there were baby castle pokemon." How odd. She turned to her cart, picking up another egg and looking at Cloud. "I agree. I don’t know how many it takes to make candy but we should have as many as possible for it." And other things. The tower pokemon rumbled behind her, peering down at the much smaller pokemon below. "Castle could be the bakery if we need one. We still need to teach them to swim though." Her head bobbed. "You should gather some and I’ll wait here with the eggs. I think some more are hatching." And then she’d have room to collect more. It was perfect.
A newborn being hungry made a lot of sense: they'd never eaten before in their lives, so the sooner they got something in their tummies the better. "I'm hungry too..." Cloud added absently, then turned to his wards. "What about you guys?" All three nodded their heads, though Blobby sorta sloshed as it moved its head. Cheri's idea of a half-baked pokemon was becoming more and more likely. A shiver ran down his spine as the sun was suddenly blotted out and he and the babies were cast into a shadow. Cloud tilted baaaaack, nearly toppled over doing so, then walked back a few steps before trying it again. "THAT'S A BIG BABY!" he exclaimed, for once not aware of the volume of his voice.
"You really know how to pick out special pokemon!"
He couldn't keep his eyes off of the great big pokemon. "Castle can be our mobile bakery! And... maybe with it, we don't need to learn teleport, we can just ride on top of it!" Cloud suggested. But, Cheri had given him an order and he was going to follow it, especially because she trusted him enough to listen to his idea. "You three listen to Cheri, she's in charge while I'm gone!" Even if he was only going to be gone for a few minutes. Blobby was the first to respond with a soft gurgling before it slithered closer to Cheri, Big-Face and Dish followed suit soon after.
These were good babies. Pleased as punch at their obedience, Cloud waved them all off before he headed off into the great beyond... a few yards away.
