"But then they would not be politicians." Noticing her mistake only when the music stops, she picks her controller back up, thumb hovering over the ignition.
"I'm sorry, it's nothing. Let's keep going." Her face betrays nothing, so it's hard to know what she's really thinking or feeling right now.

"I was just.. hm. Remembering." That's probably as specific as she'll get right now. It could have been good memories, or bad. Probably a little of both.

Cher nods, finger still hovering over the ignition button. "I'm ready."
Whether or not they were good memories, or bad, she's okay. Minty's words gave her pause, and as someone who is get up and go from the moment she wakes up, it's a bit of a rare occurrence to just stop and think.
"Has anyone piqued your romantic interest lately?" Minty doesn't have to answer that, but it's the only question her brain can conjure up at the moment.

Just as Yoshi accelerated again, the game paused. Cher blinks, confused. Her eyelids drop as the corners of her mouth tilt down in a frown.
"Sorry. I.. some things have faded with time." That's the best explanation she can give. After all, she is only human.
That's the second - third? - time she's messed up today. She resolves not to speak again for a while, seething internally while on the outside, she remains impassive.

She turned back to the tv and settled in, unpausing the game.
Cher glances her way sharply, but says nothing for a long time, intent on continuing their game. Yoshi accelerates again, and the detective is quiet for so long, it's not until Yoshi comes in eighth that she decides to speak again.
"I've forgotten things I should not have. Important things. Happens all the time, unfortunately." Then, in a small voice, barely heard above the whimsical music coming from the game, she murmurs, "I'm sorry. It's just been so long." She gazes impassively at the screen, fingers idly tracing the buttons of her controller.
"That sounds...difficult." She ventured, "I'm sure you've run into much more dire instances than my marital status, no?"
"Besides," She added wickedly, "Just because I'm married doesn't mean my romantic interest has stopped being piqued. Only that I somehow manage enough willpower to restrain myself from pursuing it. It's a fair question, just not one I would have ever considered you asking."

"My memories often get overshadowed by more powerful ones, so.. yes. It is." She finally manages to get her first Star power up, but she holds onto it for now. "I have. My life is in danger most days now, but my friend's happiness is still important to me."
Cher tilts her head, trying to understand what Minty is implying with that. "How so? I'm not uncomfortable with the subject, if that's what you're wondering."

((There's a wonderful little mom and pop doughnut shop down the road from me that I only ever seem to recall once I've already made it to my place. For someone who likes doughnuts as much as I and my character profess to, neither of us has them very often. I would say when things seem slow in one place, go to the other. I don't think most mind popping back and forth between two different threads. I tend to think we are laid back enough to go with the flow. If I had even one, you know I would share it with you without a second thought, my dear. ))

Cher quirks an eyebrow, just enough to be noticeable, before it drops back into impassivity. "You misunderstand. I completely forgot you were married at all. Thus, why I asked if you had found anyone to interest you." Admitting that is yet another cause for embarrassment, but it's quickly shunted aside this time at Minty's next comment.
"Goody-two shoes, hm." Her tone hasn't changed since she began speaking, so it's hard to tell she's amused. "I can see why you would think so." She finally uses the Star power up on the final lap and overtakes a fair number of npcs. At least now she can see the third place racer. "Please forget I said anything," she adds as an afterthought, with the full knowledge that Minty certainly will do no such thing.
