"You're a weeaboo/wapanese/Japanophile for wearing lolita."

This comment irks me the most. I've never heard it being said in real life, but I've seen that comment pop up every now and then on Gaia, especially in forums with the most trolls. Just because lolita originated in Japan doesn't mean everyone who wears lolita wants to live in Japan or have an interest in Japan. I know some lolitas IRL who love the fashion, but could care less about Japan.

I'm not sure if this counts as something that ticks me off, as it has ticked me off for months but no longer does this evening.
This morning, my family was getting ready to see my grandparents and I had gotten dressed in lolita, because I wore it last time I saw my grandfather and he was quite charmed by it. My mother and I were having the usual discussion, along the lines of "if it's supposed to be a sexy little girl, shouldn't you be wearing a pleated skirt?" "No mother, the skirt is supposed to be bell-shaped. It has nothing to do with the fetish, it just has the same name." "Why would it have the same name if it wasn't connected to the fetish?"
Now, we've had this same discussion for over a year, she loves the clothing but the name confuses her. Finally, I thought of a different way to put it.
"I think the name was something like 'Donkey Kong'."
"Pardon?"
"The game designer for Donkey Kong thought English sounded cool, so he looked up the words 'stubborn' and 'ape' in a Japanese-English dictonary. Of the words suggested, he liked the sound of 'donkey' for stubborn and 'kong' for ape, so he went with that. I think they just looked up words meaning 'little girl' in western languages, as it's a very western-inspired fashion, and liked the sound of 'Lolita'."
This might or might not be true, but it was only presented as a theory and my mother finally has absorbed that it's not just me being weird and ignoring the sexual nature of the fashion; but that the fashion, the book, and the fetish share a name but are not connected.
Well, the book and the fetish, obviously, but not the fashion.

Regardless, I offer this analogy to anyone else having the same problem I was.

I think the comment that annoys me the most is, Is it Halloween? or Did you find you're sheep?

My reply to that would be, "Really? Because you look like a [incert race] [insert outfit]."

Examples, "Really? Because you look like a white Whoppie Goldberg." or "Really? Because you look like a black Richard Simmons."

I hate it when people look down on you because you like lolita.
I mean when I told my mom she was like :
"THAT'S what YOU want you WEAR? I don't think ANYONE can pull of the look."
That's not fair! It's better than wallking around in those shorts that don't cover anything!
Oops, I'm venting again.

YES! Since we live in texas, it's very rare to see anyone in lace. Infact, I have NEVER seen a lolita here. I wanna be the first but i'm terrified.

You should go to one of the bigger cities, I think. There are a lot (and I mean, seriously. A lot) of lolitas in Texas.

D/FW, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio all have huge communities. There are also lolitas in Lubbock, Tyler, Victoria, Corpus Christi, and a slew of other towns. We're everywhere. Just have to look:

http://community.livejournal.com/metroplexlolita/

There are others, but those are the ones that are the most actively used for planning events.

Right now its sellers in the comm_sales.

Seriously. You DEMAND immediate payment but take a month to ship the item out..
(even though in their own rules you say within a week)

I have been waiting on several dresses in the mail because of lazy butt sellers. I paid before WELL before Christmas. -__ -;; Last time I trust people with little feedback.

Do you think its appropriate to leave negative feedback on their pages? There is NO communication. I am frustrated.

Ahh better now.

If you had a negative experience with a buyer then you have every right to complain. Especially there was no communtication with the buyer at all sad

Maybe make a 'looking for this seller' post? If they still don't reply, file a Paypal dispute to be safe

I strongly dislike when Lolitas tell me I can't wear certain shoes. I am a tall Lolita and yes I do own two pairs of Lolita heels... I think one of them is even brand, but I hate wearing these platform heels with my height. It looks awkward to be six two and in Lolita so I opt out for ballet flats. A fair few of Lolitas have gotten onto me and told me to wear Mary Janes but they don't understand my feet problems with those. I like to think that as long as your shoes go with your outfit it should be fine but I seriously had to make my ballet flats look like they had the ballet ribbons before they were accepted.

Another thing I dislike is people over critiquing when you try something new, something you. That is how the fashion expands and it doesn't always work but when it does something new is created.

I also dislike when major Weeaboos wear Lolita just because it is from Japan... or the girl at my school just getting into it because she wanted to be better then me... no joke we have a confession to one of my friends on that one.

Not to sound like an elitist but when wannabes wear a lace nightmare of a shirt that wouldn't have even been accepted in the eighties. That would be the same as above. She would listen to my kind advice.

I absolutely hate that when I wear Lolita I have to travel in different directions at school or risk demolishing the classroom. It is bad enough that my but is so big that in normal clothing I knock everything over.

My absolutely biggest pet peeve is when people refer to my floral black and white skirt as a French Maid. It is not and never will be a French maid... It does NOT even have an apron.
