((I know! When my phone beeped about a cookies message I was all excited!))

Max grinned as they approached the new student. He had never seen him before, but he looked like a friendly fellow. He began to open his mouth to answer the new boy, but before he could a single word out, he had begun to talk again. He certainly was a fast talker, so many words to say and he acted like he didn't have time to say them. Max smiled to himself, though it quickly faded as he began to comment on Emily. It was difficult for him to keep his cool, behind his back his fist was clenched just slightly - it wasn't as though he had any claim on Emily, they weren't dating and for all he knew she didn't like him that way at all.

"The AP Bio room is down that hallway..." He said, composing himself expertly as he brought his hand out to point down a corridor located just a little ways back the way he and Emily had been coming. "I can't remember if you have to take any stairs though, but the layout is the same, wherever room 112 is, 212 is directly above it, you know?" All he wanted was for him and Emily to get away from this guy and just continue with their walk, cold fear was snapping around his heart and it shocked him.

This new fellow, Suguru, was attractive: he was nice and easy-going. Even Max could see all of this, and he knew that Suguru was probably better in an even greater number of ways than him - what if Emily liked him instead? What if she did like Max but now saw how much he paled in comparison to this newcomer? The longer they stood there and chatted, the more Max worried about the matter, and the more he dreaded the possibilities - knowing that he had no security on the matter since he and Emily had yet to become anything more than close friends.

Suguru nodded, listening to Max's explanation. It was a pity that he couldn't get an answer from Emily, but that didn't mean he was gonna be friendly to one and not the other. "Hey, thanks buddy! Means a lot, gettin' a straight answer without havin' t'stress about it. Stress is bad for the mellow, y'know? haha..." He smiled again, giving them both a polite little bow. He was of Japanese heritage, after all. "Pity, too, since I've probably missed most of the class already. Ah, well... I'll get it right the next time, yeah? Speaking of late... I bet I'm holding you two up, aren't I? So sorry, guys, don't mean t'harsh your mellow." He chuckled to himself, rubbing the back of his head. he did have a lot to say, but it never really felt like he was going to fast. his subtle movements, his half-lidded casual expression, it made everything feel like things were going in slow motion around him. Things just kinda slowed down to accommodate his easy-going demeanor, emitting a warm, calming atmosphere. Things like that made it really hard to get mad at this guy.

Still.... he'd gotten his answer, but he didn't really want to leave yet. After all... the cute girl hadn't spoken to him yet! The truth being, he already knew where the Biology room was. He just so happened to notice Emily as he was heading in, and decided she was a higher priority. That being the case, he had no intention of going anywhere until he at least got some form of introduction from the cutie. "So, ah... I've given my name. Would it be too much to ask for yours? Just got here, y'know... I need friends! Hahaha..." He was indeed addressing oth of them, his dashing smile was as brilliant as ever. If he couldn't win her attention from good looks, perhaps politeness and assertive conversation would do the trick. The problem being, however, was if she didn't talk to him, he wouldn't know where to lead the conversation! That just wouldn't do, so Suguru fired up his determination to get something from the girl. A simple "hello" would suffice for now.

((This post is going to suck xD))

Max nodded and returned a smile, his hands clenched behind him once again. Mellow? He tried to figure out what that even meant, but just decided to let it drop. The bow was unexpected too, this Suguru fellow was certainly a character. He wasn't sure what to say about being held up though, they were, essentially, skipping anyway...sort of.

Max glanced towards Emily, trying to gauge her reaction to this new guy, but he couldn't tell what she was feeling, especially since she hadn't said or done anything. "I'm Max..." he threw in, somewhat off-handedly when Suguru mentioned names. In truth, he might have otherwise said more, but he wasn't quite sure how well his voice would hold up, the perfectness of this stranger was intimidating and hell be damned he was going to let Emily see just how much Max was worried about the matter.

((Hey! Wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be!))

[Crazy, what I come back to. :3 And once again Emily's getting so much attention. I'm flattered.]

"You wouldn't," Emily said, feigning shock at Max's 'threat' of leaving her to fend for herself. Of course, she knew he'd never do that - or at least, she had a good idea that he wouldn't. And if he did, he'd probably come right back, it having been a joke. Before she could say anything else, though, someone approached her and Max, asking about an AP Bio class.

At least, that's how the conversation started. Before either of them could give an answer, he had continued talking, the topic somehow changing to an introduction, to... she wasn't entirely sure what. Flattery? Flirting? Although still rather new to that sort of thing, it seemed just a bit like that, even to her, but she fretted for a moment about being wrong. Of course, it would be fine if she was wrong, so there wouldn't be any problems.. "U-um," she started, unable to help but blush a bit as she caught that last comment. Was it just her, or was he focusing a lot more on her than Max?

She was spared an immediate response as Max popped in with the answer to the guy's original question, but she still reached up to tuck a bit of hair back behind her ear, a nervous reaction that could so easily be taken as her being flustered, or more. Which she was, of course - flustered, that is, just a bit, but she didn't mean it that way at all.

As she fretted, the conversation around her continued. The boy, Suguru, was talking on about missing the class, but - holding them up? No, no, he wasn't. Hadn't Max just said a little while ago that they were going to take the long route back to class? They certainly weren't in a hurry...

Of course, she was a bit oblivious about Max's tense attitude. He didn't sound too agitated about things, so she couldn't attribute anything towards the way Suguru was acting... She met the boy's eyes when he asked about their names. Max introduced himself first, and he left room for her to introduce herself as well. It struck her then that she had let Max do all of the talking up until that point, which was horrible rude. "I'm Emily... it's nice to meet you, Suguru. Are... you new?" Having not said anything up until then, it almost felt like she had to make up for things - it was just the way she was, but she had no way of knowing yet that prolonging the conversation would only serve to get to Max further.

Suguru nodded again, his bright smile beaming down the halls. Although slight and hard to notice, just hearing her speak made him quiver in excitement. "Max, Emily... awesome. So glad to meet you two! Yeah, I'm new... just transferred from California! haha... Lotta beaches over there, lots of nice, open ocean...." He took in a deep breath, momentarily reminiscing his coastal home. But, not wanting to miss a beat, he glanced down to Emily, giving his usual, mellow smile. It was hypnotic, how calm this guy could be. He had no qualms with anything in the world, and even though guys can usually tell how aggressive the other is, he didn't seem phased by Max's unusual tension. He had no reason to worry, and even hoped his warm, friendly disposition might rub off on the two of them.

In the most inconspicuous way possible, Suguru couldn't help but give Emily a brief once-over. She was cute. She was teddy bear cute. Considering his eyes were never fully open, it was often difficult to gauge where he was looking, unless he was looking you in the eye. Which he did, to Emily, affectionately so. "Well, hey... I don't wanna keep you guys too long, but... could we maybe hang out some time? I could use a tour of the town, y'know, or even just the school. Newbie's gotta get broken in, don'tcha think? Hmhmhm..." Smiling. It was always smiles with Suguru. Seeing him not smile was probably an omen of Armageddon, or something. He had nothing to do, not being in Biology for a rather surprising reason. But, that wasn't important now. For now, Suguru's goal was spending time with Emily... and from the looks of things, surpassing Max's feeble attention-grabbing attempts. The poor boy looked like he was gonna have a stroke. Suguru wasn't exactly happy that he was pressing on the guy's nerves, but he wanted to know more about Emily, and see if she was really someone he wanted to pursue. She didn't act like she was taken, so he had no reason not to be a little assertive.

Despite the fact that she was still quite self-conscious about the way Suguru was acting. It almost felt like he was pushing too fast, though there wasn't anything she could find for him to push yet. He was just talking to them, after all; it wasn't like he was asking her out or anything. But still... that's what she liked about Max - the fact that he was perfectly fine being friends; then again, she still only had the faintest idea that he might like her, and that could easily have just been wishful thinking. Maybe.

"California? That... must be great. I've never been there before," she said with a small smile, encouraged by the bright excitement he seemed to have when talking about his hometown. Even if she had been there, though, she still probably wouldn't have known much about the beaches, as he was going on about.

Then there was the fact that Suguru kept looking at her. Not that the idea of looking at a person was something to be embarrassed about; it was just the fact that he didn't seem to want to look away. She had met his eyes for a few moments here and there after introducing herself, but she kept feeling flustered about the returning look, dropping her gaze until she convinced herself to look up again. She didn't feel like this at all with Max...

"A tour? I'm sure we could help with that... It'd be fun. Right, Max?" She finally looked over to Max, realizing that she hadn't been paying much attention to him since they met Suguru - mostly just because of how she was reacting to all of this in general, but still, it wasn't right. "Maybe after school, or something."

Sarah couldn't stop staring at the three. She was the gossip queen. She chuckled under her breath as Max stiffened; she didn't want to call attention to herself again.

That boy is so jealous. I don't blame him, though. The new kid keeps looking at Emily. Ugh. I don't know why he'd be interested in her.

Sarah reached for her purse, and then scowled. It sucked not having a phone. She so would've texted James about that, since he seemed slightly interested in the "couple" - enough to ask anyway.

Max's hands were behind his back, hands clenched into fists in an attempt to keep his stress from showing on his face. He couldn't help it, but in the back of his mind he felt as though this Suguru fellow was hitting on his girl. His Emily. It bothered him that he felt that way, because he knew that he had no right to think that way, no reason to be so possessive of someone he's known for only two weeks.

But what could he do? He liked Emily. He liked Emily a lot. She was beautiful, easy going, friendly. She was fun to joke with, but still reserved. She was perfect, or as close to perfect as possible. And here he was, trying to compete against Suguru? There was no way he could win out here.

He looked at Emily and forced a convincing smile. "Yeah, sure!" He smiled back at Suguru. "We can definitely show you around some time. It'd be fun. Especially if we get Nate and 'Lyssa to join in." At least she had said 'we' and not 'I' when Suguru asked her about the tour. That was something, that was a big something.

Suguru, despite his interests in Emily, was all the more pleased to hear of more people joining the escapades. "Hey, yeah, that sounds awesome! The more the merrier, right?" Chuckling and smiling as he always did, he nodded to both of them, trying to boost the happy in the area. So far, it was only him who seemed optimistic, and that just wouldn't do. Calling dibs on the cute girl or not, they both needed a perking up.

Scratching behind his head, his chuckle felt a little more awkward this time. "So, ah... what's the local custom of catching up around here? Do we trade numbers, designate a location....? I'm willin' to bet this place is nothin' like California. Well...sort of." Suguru was definitely behaving himself, for now. He had a feeling if he was too assertive at this point, Max might up and slug him. Or, y'know, he'd try anyway. I think both Suguru and Max knew what would happen if he tried that. But once they were in an environment that Max could chill a little bit, the kiddie gloves were off. Girl-hookery 101 would commence, with Suguru as the all-star student.

Sarah rolled her eyes as she witnessed Max try to control his expression. He was a horrible actor, that Sarah knew for sure. Sarah couldn't help but wish that she could hear what they were saying, but it didn't bother her to much. She would most likely find out some other way - she always did.

Sarah sighed and turned her attention back to the teacher. She still couldn't fathom why she was interested in what was going on with these freaks anyway. There had to be something more interesting going on, right?

((Waiting for puppa))

Max was doing a good job of fooling Emily, hiding his negative feelings when she did look her way. All she caught was the smile, and though it felt as if something was a little off about the way he was acting, it was convincing enough for her to smile in return. "Yes, I'll bet they'd love to help show you around," she said as she looked back to Suguru, the smile still in place. From the sound of it, the other boy seemed really happy about the idea of a larger group, and she was glad to hear that. She didn't want any conflictions between plans or anything.

At his question, Emily wasn't entirely sure how to respond, but it didn't sound like Max was going to offer a suggestion - at least, not as far as she could tell, but she might have just not waited long enough... "Well, I don't know about custom, but we normally meet up in the same place when we hang out, right Max..?" She glanced towards Max again as if to confirm what she was asking; after all, he had been hanging out with Nate and Elyssa much longer than she had. Besides, apart from the small group she was friends with now, she had no prior experience to any of this sort of thing. "We could probably exchange numbers, though, if it'd make things easier..." Part of her wasn't sure how her parents would take it if people suddenly started calling her, but then again, she could always attribute it to school-related things. It wouldn't really be lying, then... and besides, for all she knew, exchanging numbers wouldn't even be necessary.

"Well, we usually meet by the fountain in front of the school..." Max offered, as a response to Suguru's question about the matter. The truth was, he didn't want the numbers to be exchanged. Hell he didn't even have Emily's number! He wanted it, of course, but what would it look like if Emily started spouting out numbers and he pulled out his phone to save them as well? Oh, that would be excellent in front of Suguru.

Max felt a headache coming on, this new guy was really getting to him. What he needed was to talk with Elyssa, she was good at putting things into perspective. And maybe she could talk to Emily for him? To see what she was thinking? It was childish, to be going through someone else for information like this, he knew, but he couldn't ask her!

He looked up and down the hallway and then through the window of the room nearby. He was surprised a teacher hadn't seen them. As he glanced through, Max saw someone he really didn't want to see. It appeared the gossip queen had fresh news for the world, but she couldn't hear them. What had she figured out on his own? Had Max fooled anyone but Emily? Had he even fooled her? Or did Sarah know all about what he was trying not to reveal?

"We should probably get to class, Emily..." He said off handedly, turning his attention back to his friend with a smile. "We've been standing here for a while..."
PostPosted: Tue Sep 30, 2008 8:15 am

Suguru scoffed loudly, rubbing the back of his head casually. "Tch, yeah, what'm I doing here? I thought I was keeping you two longer than I should. My bad, so sorry 'bout that. You said the fountain, yeah? I remember that... big pretty thing, lots of water... Well! I guess I'll see you guys around, yeah? Don't worry about the phone numbers, I hardly keep mine on anyway. 'Sides, meeting at the fountain sounds like more fun! Max, Emily, thanks so much for helpin' me out. Hope to see you soon!" He gave them one more dashing smile, waving politely in mostly Emily's direction, turning to leave the so-not-a couple to their business. The main reason he turned away was to hide an excited smile. The gears were turning, and it was only a matter of time before something... interesting happened.

This was going to be a piece of cake. Max looked like his head was going to pop off his shoulders, he was so tense. It was a pity, really, since Max seemed like a nice guy. However, Suguru played to win, and he wasn't afraid to take initiative. If Max wanted to win Emily, he'd better hurry, or Suguru was going to sweep Emily off her feet, literally and proverbially. He didn't want to hurt Max's feelings, but the poor guy needed to learn how to express himself with more confidence. Suguru knew from experience that the shy visage only worked at first, and a little assertiveness was required for a longer lasting relationship. Nice guys might finish last... but shy guys don't finish at all.

And, y'know, if Max did score with Emily, Suguru would survive. After all, from what he'd seen, there were plenty of cute girls ripe for the charming. They'd be happy, Suguru'd be happy, and he'd have two happy friends. No matter which way things seemed like they could go, Suguru wasn't in a losing position. Life is good.

As hard as she was trying to keep quiet, Sarah couldn't help but let out a small chuckle as Max's fists turned white. The new kid must've made some kind of move toward Emily.

Sarah looked quickly away when she met Max's eyes. She tried to look busy, but she knew it was to no avail because Max had caught her. Oh well. It's not a felony to observe things. I guess it is only to be expected of me, being the queen of gossip and all that jazz. She risked a quick glance in the trio's direction and sighed in relief. Max had turned back to Emily. It appeared that they were about to leave. Sarah rolled her eyes. She had them in this class. Great. Sarah turned her head back to the teacher and daydreamed about Uriah.
