Nice Nodame observation. Piano playing characters all seem so full of themselves x__X

There seems to be a trend of majorly flawed characters, usually personality wise, who strangely seem to accumulate a number of friends. Essentially it's a trend of ungrateful d**k-head chracters who everybody loves XD Better still, by the end of the series, that characters is sure to have reformed into a personality surpassing all those around him/her. I should also add, they tend to be protoganists too.

A few examples include:

Caroline from Parakiss - She's a total b***h at the start, but the other characters can't get enough of her.

Chiaki from Nodame Cantabile - Starts off as the most arrogant meanie of all time, yet Nodame seems to love him.

Haruhi from The Melancholy of Susumiya Haruhi - Can't say the characters are mad about her exactly, but she's still not BFF material XP

I thought of two characters that play the flute instead of violin/piano

Trowa Barton from Gundam Wing ( he plays it while Quatre plays violin)

And Amiboshi from Fushigi Yūgi, the good twin from the Seiryu warriors. The flute was actually his weapon too.

Oh and i noticed some talk about young kids always piloting mechs, and i just have to throw my 2 cents in on that one. In high school i did a research paper on anime (one of a few through out the years), Anyway i discovered the reasoning behind have young kids as pilots and other primary characters be mostly youths was to show how wars can effect the younger generation during a wartime period ... at least that was what the articles i read said about the Gundam franchise.

Haha, not all of the piano players are full of themselves, Ayumu Narumi is proof of that! (Spiral: Bonds of Reasoning) :3

Hmm, that's actually a pretty interesting point - and it's almost always the case in the mecha anime as well. Think about it - there's almost always a war of some sort. I think "Voices From a Distant Star" portrays the home/war aspect pretty well too. It was a bit boring, but really sad. . .

Yeah, you're right. Actually, a lot of them are sweet and endearing. The piano is so romantic, it's a shame to waste its beauty on mean characters XP

Yeeees! The piano is what I always wanted to learn to play. Besides Clarinet and Flute.
And Ayumu's sweet, once the poor dear gets past his issues <3 ^^

There's that guy from Trigun who plays the saxophone!

A stereotype of comic romance series is that the main female lead is often violent sweatdrop

That's soooo true! They always beat up the male protagonist too.

Haruhi from The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi

Naru from Love Hina (as well as just about everybody else XD)

Asuna from Negima!

Misty from Pokémon

I dare anyone to name an exception XDD

What about the badass guitar players, eh? Like Nana Oosaki and Ren Honjo? <3

You should totally learn to play the piano. I'm self taught, and it's the most fun in the world.

Ooh, and I've just thought of another! What is it with characters convieniently discovering new powers and abilities they've never used before and getting stronger after they've been beaten?

Bleach, DBZ and Pokémon all do this. Ichigo even DIED and came back stronger XD Sadly, I have to admit my dear series, Digimon is also guilty of this (^^;; )

4. Naruto (Naruto. Sasuke)
5. One PIece (Luffy. Zoro)

In some really popular manga/anime's there is the almighty annoying: Dipwad. Somebody who is completely useless until they recive power from something else. EG. Naruto is nothing without the Kyuubi.

In Ouran High School Host Clubs, Temaki plays the piano. I would suppose his type is the cool type. lawlz.
