"We could..." she responded, a little confused at his sudden change of heart and concerned that her only lead was getting father away, and in a different direction. "Or we could follow the sounds of Crab armor."
With that she corrected her path and started off in a south-easternly direction, albeit tentatively while she made sure the Bayushi was actually following her. This was one place she most definitely did not want to be alone, and though he was looking increasingly unreliable any Bushi was better than no Bushi.

The samurai sighed. Perhaps Masuyo didn't know the Hare well enough yet. Denbe tended to be more the hound than the rabbit. "As it stands, both of us has lost track of Ujina-san and Kaiu-san. There is a good chance that whoever Ujina-san is chasing has Shosuro-san, so we must go back to a place where they have been and then back track their trail. In fact, we don't have to go far!" The bushi then started walking back towards where they had first seen the robed man. "If this pans out well, we'll have found Asako-sama's murders and rescued Shosuro-san. Kami willing, we could go home then!"

Her brow furrowed as she blinked again, stopped dead in her tracks by the obstinate Bushi even as their only lead rapidly disappeared from earshot.
"But I just said I haven't lost track of-" she began in an annoyed whine before simply losing the will to argue with time such a strong factor, "-aaghFINE! Do as you will."
It seemed there would hardly be a moment where she did not wish she had refused this little assignment. Her previous sentiment still stood, however, and she would stick to Kojiro's side regardless of her steadily growing reservations. An unreliable Bushi was better than no Bushi... she would have to recite that phrase multiple times before it could sink in this time. What she wouldn't give for a Mirumoto and a Kitsuki right about now.

@ Kojiro and Masuyo:
The two of you head back to the entrance of the castle, because the castle has been so good to you so far! Though, what you actually wish to accomplish is not readily apparent to the GM. You arrive without difficulty, and without ambush.
Masuyo, the sound of the Crab Armor grows nearer, before Kagae returns to your position.

@ Denbe:
With that impromptu hurried search check, the only thing you can safely secure is the dying man's weapon. It's safe to say that Denbe has lost 1 point of honor for his conduct, and runs out of time the same time he runs out of comfort. At this point, it's all Eta territory.
For the record, trying to look for incoming assailants would be more of a perception check with a raise to do so covertly. But, regardless, there doesn't seem to be incoming. Denbe waits a bit, and that situation doesn't change. Out of his two possible scenarios, it seems that "running away" was the likely outcome.
You have this swanky blood-stained curved dagger and no play partners! What do you do now, Mr. Hare?

The Hare would wait, holding out for any signs of people approaching for a moment, concerned he'd see someone sprinting after the Crab as he went back out into the open...
Instead, nothing.
After a bit, he gave it up, with a small curse, and put his sword away. Denbe looked at the man one last time- but he had no wakazashi on him, so it seemed apparent he was not of a family the Hare would recognize even if he tried. Giving it up, he tried to imagine where Kagae would be headed back, or where the others might have gotten to, and decided there was only really one course of action. He'd have to back track, first to the castle, to find them. As much as he wanted to try and hunt down the others from here, finding them alone seemed less than productive.
Keeping track of which direction he'd headed over all as he returned, thinking it would give him an idea which way to begin his search for the others, he went back to the castle.
He'd need at least one other body beside him if he hoped to find them and accomplish something. And with luck, someone might even be able to make something of the dagger.

"Here! This is where we first saw the robed one, isn't it?" Kojiro growled. As soon as Masuyo gave confirmation, Kojiro would begin searching the ground, looking for the man's tracks as he came too the castle. With luck the Scorpion could backtrack the man's trail. As Kagae reappeared, Kojiro would give him a cursory greeting as he did his best to find out where the man came from. Hopefully the mud would aid him in this endeavor.

"You won't believe this Kojiro-san, Masuyo-san." Puffed Kagae as he slowed down when he found the two only pausing for a moment to catch his breath, "That fool, Denbe-san, killed the man I'm pretty sure we wanted to take prisoner and ask questions. Then he goes and pokes around the body like some filthy eta. Asako-sama? Dead. Our current most important lead dies with whatever glory Denbe-san sought from killing him."
Kagae would spit on the ground and then collapsed against a wall. He then would look up at the two with a face of exasperation,
"I would never ask of this from you but the pheasant I caught seems to have gone missing. So if you can spare any rations I would be most grateful."

Kojiro sighed to himself as he heard that. "This place.....the sooner we're out of here, the better!" with that, Kojiro took a short break from his attempt to back track to give Kagae one of the rations he obtained from the Crab castle. The Scorpion turned his attention back to the tracks left behind by the robed man. "Remember, as Jade Wardens, we serve the same end, Kaiu-san. If you have need of such, ask it. It wouldn't do to have someone who nearly won the tournament starved to death and failing his duty.

"Thank you Kojiro-san" Said Kagae taking the rations gracefully and immediately set upon them. Then trying to talk between mouthfuls, "I think we should stop running around like headless chickens... Mmf.. Would of preferred that pheasant... Anyway my suggestion is to routinely search each building here, strong arm them out. Take the fight to the bastards in street to street combat otherwise we're waiting for them to make their move."
Pausing for a moment to scoff the rest of his rations down before continuing,
"Waiting for them to make the first move might end in another one of us being taken! If we take the fight to them we can assure we're all together. Sure this might not be what you're trained to do Kojiro-san but what other options do we have? I would of bet serious amounts of koku on them being inside the castle but they seem to be elsewhere. So how about we kick some doors down and show them steel!"

You can follow the tracks of the man with moderate difficulty, as not all of his footfalls were recorded in the earth. As you backtrack, it seems he wandered the city for some time, stopping at doorways and windows to examine buildings.
You lose the trail at the doorway of a certain building, however. A temple that is familiar to you all.

You arrive back at the castle, though you just missed the others. You can hear them though and can re-unite with them after about a minute. Unless you wanted to do other things at the gate to the castle...

Masuyo blanched at the news of the poor man's murder, but her expression remained uncannily neutral. As they tracked him she merely followed in silence.

Hearing their voices, the Hare followed after, hustling to catch up...
And came upon the group back where they had started, making a distressed face and hustling up to the rest. Why had they come back where they'd started? It was the completely wrong direction!
"What're you all doing back here!?"
He exclaimed, walking up to them with the bloody knife still in hand. It might not tell them much, but it was an unusual looking weapon. Gaijin, even. And that could tell them something important yet. He looked around between them, not sure what they were doing here... and without having overheard any conversation for context, but he was excitable at the moment, on edge.
"Our stranger confessed to the magistrate's murder before he cut his own throat," he said, holding up the dagger. "And the rest never showed up to ambush me," with a quick dart of his eyes to the Crab, "which means they're either running or hiding, and I'd bet somewhere in the direction he'd been fleeing."
He was growing more irate by the second, edgy and hyper. They were on the hunt. And the others were... kami help him, he was sure they were trying to do something useful, but what boggled him!
"I don't know if they want to organize and come after us or just slip through our fingers, but we can't allow them time enough for either! We're dutybound to bring justice to these murderers!"

Kojiro measured Denbe's words as best he could.... of course, the Scorpion's eye fell upon the weapon in Denbe's hand. It was entirely possible that the man had slain himself. It was also equally likely that the Hare wrestled the weapon from the man and then slit his throat with it...
"For our own part, I backtracked the man's path here. He seemed to be investigating the route we took to the castle. This is where I lost him. If I may make a suggestion, we could go to where I found Asako-sama's things and then try picking up the trail there again.

The Hare scowled, but ignored it mostly and carried on, shaking his head.
"Plan? We don't let them get away or prepare. We start with the direction he was trying to escape to, and sweep the city. We keep together, and if we find them, we hit them hard and fast. Our duty is to avenge the magistrate- unless we find signs of Shosuro-san, avenging him is our foremost priority."
He stood, edgy, and unsure of what the others had said before, but it seemed clear to him. Their duty was dry-cut and clear, and their objective stood before them, trying to scurry and hide. So long as they were the predators, they should act like it.
"That's my assessment of the situation, unless we have a better lead," he said, shifting on his feet and already wondering if they'd delayed too long.
