"Well... hopefully you've adapted to extreme cold. Even in our sunbaked tropics it's cool enough to wake the heaviest of drinkers this time of year. I can barely imagine how cold it is here."

She could only shrug dismissively and let the Dragon do his thing. In the meantime it seemed the catches out here were muuuuch better. On the first cod she elected to throw back the goby, happy to replace a useless fish with a genuine meal article. The second just added to that, giving her a backup and all the more options. The madai however, was the real catch. Tasty enough to serve as a meal all its own in the form of a very popular sashimi. It felt a little strange cooking it up when there wasn't a formal occasion anyway, but in either case it was quite the prized catch. With everything she could possibly need for a good meal and then some, she had only to wait out the time, casting her line a bit deeper to see if she could catch anything truly special.

@ FIYAH!

Naohiko begins to run around in a panic, and comes to the eventual conclusion... the Mantis wing!

He even finds it!

But no one's there.......

Dejected by defeat, Naohiko hurries back to where everything was going on, and nearly bumps into a trio of Crane; one peasant attendant, one guard, and one withered husk of a man who seemed likely to collapse at any moment.

"Please, samurai-san," the guard would say to Naohiko, apparently not recognizing his clan. "Stay back; we have this under control."

The thin man appeared to be a shugenja, as he neared the fire and took out a scroll. Unfurling it, he would begin to chant the words, the mantra unfamiliar to you unless you make a Spellcraft roll. Though, Naohiko, you would get a bit of a tingle as the hairs on your arms stood up on end. It's almost like that feeling you get as you focus really hard then zone out, except you feel fine. The priest continued to chant, and even though you could only see him from the side, you could see the eyes rolling back up in his head.

And, just like that, the fire was gone, the roar silenced by a whisper.

The man was still chanting, and the attendant began to go through efforts to snap him out of the strange behavior, and you think it worked. The shugenja was being walked back the way he came, and you could see his face now; he was no more than a year or two older than you, Naohiko, but he seems... aged, like his face looked decades older more than it should. Also, his eyes were still rolled up and he was still chanting under his breath.

Though he would stop before Naohiko, and turn to him, and say rather plainly to him:

"As the head lay to rest, and the left hand and right hand grasp at their surroundings, the true face appears, driven off only by falsehood."

"There there, Isei-sama, we know," the attendant said reassuringly to the priest, before hurrying him along and away from your presence.

The Crane begin clean-up with little delay, and assorted servants open what windows they could before trying to wave smoke out of them with sheets and towels.

The Kraken samurai blanched as he tried to comprehend what the Crane shugenja had said. Naohiko backed off from the priest until he came into contact with a wall. This shook him out of his reverie and he returned to the room where he and Kyouya were attempting to make paper. "Sorrry about that." Naohiko said as he loaded the too wet pulp back into the presses. "Hopefully this batch will be the batch"

HOUR 4

@ Paper-Making:

Yay progress! You strike paydirt and managed to find some good materials to work with!

Not far from your location, you hear a conversation being spoken; the door to your workspace happens to be open.

"I'm terribly, truly sorry about this, Kioko-sama." a man's voice would say.
"This is inexcusable, Katsunan. Inexcusable!" the familiar voice of the princess would respond.
"I didn't know she'd fly off the handle like that, Kio-
"You didn't know?! How could you not know?! She is your clansmen, is she not?"
"Sh-she is. She's from a different family though. I... I don't know what to say."
"I expect that you'll be paying for those damaged she caused. I know you can, Katsunan."
"H... hai, Kioko-hime. I'll see to it."
"You'd better."

There was an aggressive set of footsteps walking off after that last statement, and a distant sigh would be heard. And then some shuffling.

"Can I help you, Asahina-san?"
"A temporary loss of burden is instead redoubled upon crossing a home's threshold."

"E-e-excuse me??"

And then shuffled footsteps continue.

--------------------

@ Smithing:

Gendo, Ryoji still continues to aid you, and you manage to expertly succeed on this crafting process, in which you are obviously giving great care - despite some lack of attention from your aid. You notice his attention seems diverted.

"S-samurai-sama? Can I..." he begins to ask you, but he seems to redden from embarrassment. "N-nevermind, it's nothing."

You can give me an awareness/investigation roll if you want, or you can ignore him and continue smithing! (The awareness roll will not be your hour's result if you want to do that first).

The Hiruma hits a snag on trying to get the bow to bend properly, and it spending more time than it looks like he intended on it.

The Kakita continues to work on her tetsubo. She begins becoming a bit chatty with her assistant, though the two's voices are too low to hear over the sounds of all the smithing.

The Mantis seems to be stuck, and is not progressing as she would like.

The Unicorn finally hits a breakthrough on his armor-making project, and is on the verge of tears from joy, despite being Double-Large. Or maybe there's just something in his eye.

--------------------

@ Fishing:

Kaichiyo, you get no bites for the majority of this hour, despite the Mantis's apparent repeated success; though he, once more, throws every single catch back. They were all admittedly small fries, but it didn't seem like he tried very hard to catch anything better.

The Dragon, being forced to spend a void point on a perception roll he should have made by now, DICE, begins to suddenly take off all his clothes. Around this time, Kaichiyo, your sole catch for the hour is a slipjack tuna that you're currently battling with! Though that goes awry when the Dragon dives into the water without a word.

"Wh- HEY!" the Tortoise would say in alarm as he ran to the starboard side of the vessel, the same side the Dragon dived off of and that you were fishing on. "Man overboard!" he bellowed out, and the crew would also run to the starboard side to assess the situation.

Kaichiyo, the Mantis has come over too, and is standing to your right (while attentions are focused towards the fore of the ship).

There seems to be a great commotion in the water.

The little Kraken princess jumped in surprise as she herd the splash, suspecting but not expecting he would actually do it. With the swiftness of a duelist she drew her wakizashi and cut her line, letting the tuna swim away with the hook so it wouldn't be a danger to the crazed Dragon. And of course, not missing the proximity of the Mantis, she covered her bucket and slid it between her legs for safekeeping while she stared out into the waters.

"Well... can't say we didn't warn him."

Naohiko would look out the door discretely to see who was talking to whom as he started to arrange the trays full of paper pulp into a way that would let them take the best use of what remained of the sun. If he saw the Dragon, he would call out to him. "Ohayo, Dragon-san. Has this been an interesting contest to observe?"

@ Fishing:

The Mantis would look down at Kaichiyo's bucket, and back up to her. "You spoke of the coldness of the water yourself; shouldn't we try to do something to help him?" he would chide you, some annoyance in his voice.

The crew of the ship were quickly trying to get some rope to toss out to the Dragon while preparing a way to get to him. The captain would order an Eku to be lowered.

Meanwhile, there was more commotion in the water, but it was hard to tell what was going on.

A couple rounds...
19 - Opponent
10 - Aritomo, 2 damage

--------------------

@ Smithing:

Gendo, you notice Ryoji and the young man helping the Crane smith have been exchanging awkward glances at one another. Without a raise I cannot tell you what connection these two might have.

--------------------

@ Papermaking:

As the Dragon walked by, Naohiko and Kyouya might remember him from the Shogi match, due to his first opponent being a general boisterous nuisance.

Rain Yupa
"Bloody Jigoku... what was that?" Toku Seiichi would mutter, rubbing the side of his head in confusion as he looked at the board.

"I, uh... I think they call that, 'dumb luck', Toku-san..." the Dragon would say awkwardly, kind of uncomfortable with the fact that he actually won.

"WELL, MATE... I CHALLENGE YOU TO A REMATCH! RIGHT NOW!" Seiichi points across the table dramatically.

"I don't think... that's how... it works, Toku-san..." Katsunan said lowly, trying to shrink away in embarrassment.

"OH, IT'S NOT? Er, I mean, it's not?" Seiichi retracted his pointing finger reluctantly, and looked around.

Kyouya, you saw he also bested your clansmen in the second round as well.

Mirumoto Katsunan looked like a typical Dragon; he had a shaved head, and a thin fu manchu mustache/beard combination. He looked a bit bleary-eyed, though despite this, he looked well-composed and well-dressed. One might even suggest that he was very affluent just by his kimono and general state of appearance, though that is practically unheard of for the Dragon Clan, let alone such a militaristic family like the Mirumoto.

"Oh, uh..." the man would say from the doorway, stopping in his tracks, apparently caught off-guard by your attempted greeting.

"Not... so much, samurai-san," he would say apologetically. "I believe people won't be showing off the fruits of their labors until later this evening. There isn't much for me to observe yet, since a cross-section of their effort looks gaijin to my unskilled eye."

Katsunan would look upon your project and it was obvious from his expression he had no idea what you two were making.

He would kind of stand there awkwardly, waiting for you to continue the conversation.

"Ahha. As in our case....Shosuro-san and mine, our project is nearly ready to be dried out. within an hour, we might be so fortunate as to have something presentable to Doji-hime. at the end of the day." Naohiko frowned as he startede adjusting the racks of paper so that they'd catch as much sunlight as they could.

The Mantis' irritation and chiding was all she really needed to confirm Kyouya's suspicions, as well as her own. She was not leaving this bucket unattended.

"He chose his path, deliberately, and knowing the risks. It would be dishonorable to pull a warrior from his battle." she responded with a shrug, her own Herald's eye inspired by the story of the previous day and trying to spin this into something of her own. As evidence by her next line of thought, "Besides, Dragon are known for meditating naked on the tops of their snowy mountains. He is far better suited to this cold than you or I."

Without looking up much, he spoke softly. "Is there a problem? I would rather take care of it than have your attention taken away from the project." He continued his work, carefully working with file and heat to help profile the jitte.

@ Fishing:

"Tamori Aritomo is a courtier," the Mantis would explain. "I'm not sure he's the meditating type. And while you still have a point, I'm loathe to be the samurai who watched another man drown while fishing. Still..." He would frown. "Without any weapons on me, there's not much I can do from here. If I had a yumi, perhaps."

Meanwhile, there was still lots of commotion in the water. Without a Notice, you wouldn't be sure what Aritomo was tussling with, but its scales were shiny. Some blood began to seep out into the water.

The crew seemed to be positioned to try and pull the Dragon out, but currently, it was too violent in the water to make such an attempt.

@ Papermaking:

"I see," Katsunan said flatly, standing there for a few brief moments more. "I suppose I'll be off, then," he would say, and go to continue on his way if not stopped.

Naohiko would bow as the Dragon left. "And a good day to you. it was good to meet you." Naohiko would continue on with setting up the remaining trays. He would then sit near where they had tea and drink, adjusting the paper filled trays as needed. The Kraken was willing to let Kyouya be.The Scorpion was as helpful as she could be, given Naohiko's inexperience in delegating things to her, but the young bushi's ....lack of resolve seemed to get the better of him. Besides, the last part was easy enough to finish. It was just watching and making sure that the trays were in a position to dry.

"What in Jigoku?" she exclaimed upon seeing the blood. There was a whole lot of commotion down there for just one fish. "I... I hope that's from the fish..."

She huffed a little and continued trying to sort out the splashes to get a better picture of what the crazy Dragon was doing. "If I had a way to help, I would. As it is now jumping in there after him would just make things worse. Kasuga-san seems to have things under as much control as is possible."

@ Smithing:

Ryoji reddens, and shakes his head no. "It's fine, let's get back to work, samurai-sama."

You aren't getting anything out of him without a roll now, so you'll have to do that or simply go back to work.

--------------------

@ Fishing:

Kaichiyo, you see, in a spray of seafoam, Tamori Aritomo locked in battle with a quite sizeable blue marlin. He seems determined to hold on to the fish, but he keeps getting cut by its bill. He gets a punch in on the side of the fish's head, but it brushes it off and continues to struggle to get free. Aritomo's left hand and right shoulder look pretty badly cut up.

Yes, this is a thing that is happening right now. And now Aritomo's out of his Luck reroll too.

A couple rounds...
19 - Marlin, 8 damage
10 - Aritomo, 22 damage
