At the first rank in 3rd edition, you have a good chance of doing unto others before they do unto you.
2nd Rank and 3rd Rank give you the ability to poor on the hurt or leave someone in a severe disadvantage.
4th rank is the standard two attacks.
5th rank lets you declare all raises AFTER you roll.

Yeah. The only reason I lasted so long against Keith is that the Bayushi to hit bonus couldn't be ignored.

Pfft. You get to spar with Grampa Hida. Odds are he'll have you in fighting shape by the time we're through with this session. You also get to spend some quality time with Kaori. Furthermore, you also get a point for finishing second. Me...I get Mr. Ninja. stare . Heh. Only now I realized how stupid what I initially typed was. *sighs* Atleast the contests should be over soon.
