Eula watched Dux in silence, frowning a little that Faith wanted her. Assuming it had something to do with the riddle, she immediately decided it could be put off. She didn't want to think about the riddle right now... and rather wanted someone other than Faith for company for awhile. She knew full well Faith wouldn't be sleeping anytime soon, anyway.
She lifted an eyebrow at Dux's final question. She shifted her gaze to Terra, whispering, "Do you have any idea what she just said?"
She was about to reply to the insane newcomer when Donato poked his head out of the door. "Sorry," she began apologetically. "I was just out here waiting for you and then... well," she glanced at the other two. "You know how popular I am."

"Not a clue." Not only did Terra not have any clue what Dux had said, she was also wondering since when was there another raccoon in Redwall? Maybe she needed to put the bow down sometimes and talk to creatures other than Eula.
She glanced over as Donato appeared. She nodded to him, whispering as to not wake any more dibbuns. "Evening, Donato."

"Well, of course. It must be all that charm," he replied to Eula with a smile. "Evening, Terra. How are you? Hullo." This last a bit less cordially to Dux; he didn't think it was Eula and Terra yelling to wake the dead in the middle of the hall. "I'm almost done in here, we're just putting the younger ones to bed. I'll be out in a minute." He ducked back inside, closing the door quietly.
A few minutes later, he emerged looking a bit less flustered. "Well, they're in bed for now. Here's hoping they stay there."

Eula smiled and stood up to greet Donato. She paused, and glanced at the other two. This wasn't exactly how she pictured this portion of her evening playing out. Clicking her tongue, she turned to Dux. "Could you tell Faith I'll meet with her later? I may or may not bring others along, but I'll be there later. All right? Thanks." She finished that conversation before the crazy raccoon could agree or comment, turning then to Terra.
She was silent for a moment as she failed to think of a polite way to get Terra to leave. Instead, she turned to Donato. "Want to go for a walk?" With her obvious invitation toward Donato, that left Terra with the option to tag along or take the hint and leave.

Terra wasn't stupid, and when Eula began to dismiss Dux and turn most of her attention to Donato, she got the hint. She didn't take it personally or anything, Eula was her friend and she understood her well enough.
"Yea, you two have fun. I gotta do something...over there." she pointed off in the opposite direction, vaguely. Not a smooth exit but an exit none the less. "Bye Donato. Talk to you later, Eula." with a fake salute and a nod to Dux, she made her leave.

Frustrated as he had been when he came up to work, Donato had cooled off a bit during a nursery-wide game of hide and seek (except the part when one of the dibbuns got stuck in a wardrobe). Now he raised an amused eyebrow as Eula started dismissing Dux and Terra. Snickering, he responded, "G'night, Terra. Thanks." He waved as she left. "Well, Eula, how was your day?"

...huh...
::And all after that, Dux was left standing there, she might as well have been alone, as Eula's mind definitely was with Donato's now, and she sighed, and shrugged, and pocketed her half-eaten apple again now::
Ah, we open on the close.... ::Tux crooned far too dramatically, bowing daintily there and exaggerating every movement with a look of put-on grace like a butler or maidmouse as she got up again, tail and nose held high, trotting off...::
::Looked like Dux took the message as well... just what would get passed back to Faith, who knew how it would end up sounding?!::
::But for the moment, Donato and Eula at least seemed to have some time together...::

Eula watched the other two leave. She was clearly unconcerned with whatever Dux would say to Faith, or even if she WOULD tell Faith, she was just happy that the crazy raccoon actually left.
She returned her attention to Donato with about as coy of a smile as would ever be on her features. "Sorry, I'm selfish. I wanted you to myself." She beckoned him to follow her out to the grounds, where it was growing cool with the approaching night. "My day? I just helped organize and set up the defenses and generally boss others around. What's weird is they were all listening to me."
She crossed her arms against the chilly evening when they came out of the corridor. "Then I got cornered and pummeled with questions I didn't know the answer to, so I left."
After a moment, she looked to Donato. "And your day?"

Donato chuckled at Eula's coquettishness but followed where she led. Seeing that she was cold, he put an arm around her shoulders as he replied. "Well, they're probably listening because you're not fifteen anymore. Also, some of them are new, so they don't know that they don't have to listen to you yet," he teased.
"Hm, my day...." He trailed off for a moment, thoughtfully. "I talked with Turan and Whisper about losing their children. They were surprisingly okay with that, actually.... 'Though I'm not sure that Whisper even processed much of what I was saying." He shrugged with his free arm. "Also, Terra and Ather are arguing because Terra wants to fight in this." He gestured to the general surroundings, but offered no other comment.

((I should definitely be studying for my history exam...))
Eula nodded as she listened to Donato, sliding her arm around his back when he put his arm around her. "Well, I suppose that is preferable to the alternative. Whisper, um, killing you."
She steered them around toward the orchard, keeping near the walls rather than walking across the open grounds. The last thing she wanted was to be ambushed by the Woodlanders or even other Redwallers. This was her Not-Dealing-With-Anyone-Else-At-All time.
"Yeah, Terra was telling me about that. She said she's going to fight anyway. She's just upset Ather doesn't want her to. But it's her choice, she knows that."
When they were in the orchard and seemed well enough alone, Eula withdrew her arm, then stood up on tip-paw, wrapped her arms up around Donato's neck and kissed him. She was not much into the physical portion of relationships... when anyone else around. But it was definitely a nice stress reliever. And she was about as stressed as she could ever recall being.
Drawing away, she lowered her arms and twined her paws with his, resting her forehead against his chest for a few moments while she enjoyed the short, pleasant sensation of having her worries all fade away. But... all worries would come back quickly enough, and she lifted her head to look at him again.
"I thought I'd extend the invitation... though I understand and even applaud you if you choose to go get some sleep instead.... but Dux was telling me that Faith wanted me. I can only assume it has to do with the riddle... if you wanted to come. But you definitely don't need to. Just thought I'd let you know you're welcome."

Donato chuckled at her response. "Yeah, good point. I'm gonna look at it that way." At her comment about Terra, though, he found that he had nothing more to say than, "Mm-hmm."
When Eula started kissing him, Donato tensed for a moment, glancing around to make sure no-one could see them. Seeing that they were alone, he smiled a bit and returned the kiss. When she pulled away and leaned against his chest, he rested his chin atop the shorter haremaid's head and squeezed her paws. Then...
"Sure, I'll come." His response was more eager than it would have been if he were only being polite. Maybe here would be something he could *do*. "...If you and Faith don't mind."

"I definitely don't mind. I can't speak for Faith, but I couldn't exactly imagine her caring in the slightest."
Eula was quiet for a few moments as she continued to hold onto his paws, cuddling up close to him again. She closed her eyes and gave a quiet sigh, knowing she couldn't put Faith off forever. She hated walking away from these quiet, peaceful moments. Whenever she left, all she could ever think was... how long would it be until it was like this again? It could be tomorrow evening. Or a week from now. She never knew.
Finally, she continued speaking as if she hadn't stopped before. "I can't imagine we'd get anywhere with the riddle... I've known it for a few months now, but I have close to nothing. Unless you or Faith are some kind of puzzle genius, I don't see this going anywhere. Frankly, I'm just not that interested in working on it. I like working with the concrete evidence that I have... not some cryptic, morbid riddle."

Tannia was sitting out on the grounds near the gatehouse, leaned back against the wall. She had her legs stretched out, crossed, before her. Nursing a mug of hot tea, she was watching some leftover workers who were determined to keep on working into the evening. She shook her head a little, looking down into her mug, steam still wafting slowly out of the beverage.
She only sat there quietly, watching others contentedly as she sipped at her hot drink, warming her against the cold night. She would just try not to think about what tomorrow or the next day would bring.

It wasn't often Sasha was quiet for long periods of time, but it did tend to happen. She hadn't been saying much on the side of jokes and sarcasm the last week or so, and had taken on some responsibility in the building and construction around Redwall. Turan had told her she didn't have to, but he knew well enough that when Sasha wanted to do something she was going to do it. Just because she was female didn't mean she couldn't work as hard as the males.
She had taken the day off that day, to catch up on sleep and her own thoughts. After grabbing a cup of hot cocoa to help settle her stomach, which for someone reason began to flop that afternoon, she wandered the grounds in search for a familiar face to talk with. She hadn't really spoken to anyone all day. And a familiar face she found. She gave a gentle smile and came up to sit beside her cousin, "What's your poison?" she joked, noting the cup Tannia had.

Tannia watched Sasha approach her, eyes following her cousin over the rim of her cup. She kept the steaming cup wrapped between her paws to keep them warm. "Hot tea," she replied casually.
"It's getting pretty cold out," she went on, looking skyward momentarily. "We might get snow before too long now." It was a rather transparent tactic... talking about the weather in place of less favorable topics. It didn't hurt at least. After all, the subject would always return to the imminent danger, why not change the topic, if just for a brief moment?
"Anything new in your life? Didn't see you out with the workers today. I don't blame you."
