Thankfully she had been able to accept the finger before the light went out, or she might have started to panic. As it was, even as the Bushi began to retreat, her resolve only hardened. Something trying to keep them away seemed like a good sign that the poor little Shosuro WAS here, or at least something these maligned forces saw as worth protecting.
"No!" she declared, "If there's any chance she's here, we can't leave her to such a fate!"
She reached out in a desperate prayer to the Kami she knew were nearby, as well as a desperate prayer in for protection even as she gripped the jade and concentrated on the as-of-yet-insubstantial ball of fire.

Masuyo, you attempt to summon a manifestation of the fire kami. You had trouble doing the proper incantations in the darkness, and you aren't sure what you just invoked.
A different spell seems to have been cast entirely.
"Only in darkness can there truly be light," a voice would say that only the shugenja would hear; it was husky, deep, dark, and malevolent, to list a few adjectives.
"I cannot show you the way, but I can show you how to find the way yourself. Do you wish for me to teach you?"
Kagae, you believe you found the stairs, though you seemed to be crushing some clay or otherwise delicate objects beneath the weight of your armor on your way over.
Denbe grabs Kojiro grabs Masuyo, in the middle of the dark room, with no Miyako to delight in the inappropriateness of it all. What do you three do now?

The Scorpion listened deeply to the distant crunches of what he thought were the Crab making his way through. "Kaiu-san! We're moving to you!" Kojiro hopefully angled Masuyo and Denbe to move with him as he heard what he thought was the Kaiu move.

Hnng~
She couldn't exactly call it hindsight, considering she just said this is exactly what might happen, but it was one thing to theorize and something entirely different to actually be confronted with it. The one part scholastic curiosity was completely overwhelmed by many more parts fear and reverence. It didn't change her opinion on the situation much, but perhaps there was a better plan available after all...
"Oh, Kami-sama! I didn't see~ err... I mean, that's very kind of you to offer, but the thing about humans is, we need to be able to see before we can learn the delicate intricacies of your great powers."
...and at the moment that plan was simply to let herself get dragged away by the retreating bushi.

"Oh, tsk. Trust me, the darkness is much more enjoyable. I was happy with shedding light, but when you brought me down here and showed me what true power was, it was exhilarating. I wouldn't be what I am now if it wasn't for you and that man with the mask bringing me down here."There was a malevolent chuckle that sounded, and echoed through the room - one that EVERYONE would hear. Kagae, it was definitely farther into the room than you are, if that's any consolation. Once more, only to the shugenja's ears, the kansen would continue. "You showed me corruption, and it would be only fair to return the kindness. If not you, then perhaps one of your companions?"UNLUCKY Ujina Denbe, you suddenly brush up against something protruding up from the ground; something on the brittle side, but a jagged edge catches you in the calf, giving you 1 wound - an open wound, mind you, as blood begins to seep down your leg.

The image of the blackening torch passes through her mind, followed by a wave of guilt. This compounded even more when it began to consider targeting one of the others.
"Ah~ no! You can show me! Buuut, as I said, I need light before I can learn." she tried to explain as she wracked her mind for the extremely off chance that she might know a ritual to purify a Kami. In the meantime, more distractions GO~ "So you were corrupted by something down here? Do you know what it was? Or... where it is now...?"

"Kitsuki-san? What's going on?" Denbe asked, grouped in the center of the room with the other two in the dark, hearing her talk to something he couldn't hear. Did her spell work? Hearing and feeling those two nearby, the Hare looked around uselessly, feeling terribly uneasy but blind and helpless as he attempted to navigate in his mind. It seemed more than dark- like the room itself had changed, been plummeted into something... else.
"Kaiu-san! Are you alright!?" he called to the only member left unaccounted for, far from comfortable with the questions quickly piling up.
She was speaking to a kami, but where was the magic? What was going on? Learning? Corrupted? What was?
"Ah!" the Hare said in surprise, crouching to grab his wound, suddenly feeling a chill as he situation seemed less and less friendly.

@ Denbe: Your spellcraft roll tells you that your shugenja is communing with a kami, or some sort of spirit at least. Commune is a fairly basic spell, one that all shugenja are taught.
@ Masuyo knowledge roll: With a 15, you think you probably know OF a ritual that might do the trick. But you need the right scrolls, which contain the information you need. Information, that is likely in Shiro Tamori or the High House of Light, back in Dragon lands.
@ Masuyo's Courtier roll: There is no response.

"Kitsuki-san, I think now is likely not the prudent time to be speaking with the kami. We should leave this place..."
He was quickly feeling more and more uneasy with this place, first with the signs of corruption and now listening to Masuyo speak with spirits that were supposedly not there, and now the strange changes to the floor and his wound...
Using Kagae's voice (and any of the others' if possible) the Hare would start to move toward the doorway, looking to get out of the room and hopefully at least stop feeling so uneasy so he could work on devising some sort of plan for them.

Kojiro's eyes grew wide as the other two kind of froze in place. Everything in his senses told him that wrongness was going on here. If only he knew what type of wrongness so he could convince those two to move their feet!

Denbe, you already have located Masuyo and Kojiro, as you guys are currently a human centipede conga line. As such, their voices do not aid you in trying to navigate through the dark.
However, at this point, you DO seem to hear something... off. Like something else is down here with you. You weren't sure if it just arrived, or it was completely silent and still this whole time.
Denbe and Kojiro have tried to find their way through the darkness, but are not having any luck. Masuyo, feel free to give it a try. Kagae, if you feel like venturing basement are, you can get three free raises to find the trio.
Kojiro, everything points that you guys are dealing with a Kansen. The only one who can fight it amongst you would be your shugenja, who can't read her scrolls in all this darkness. It might not be the shadowlands, but odds are this place is still corrupted like whoa and you PROBABLY don't want to spend any more time down here than necessary. Also, your instincts probably tell you to make sure you don't have any open wounds if corruption is an issue.

Another chill. A lifetime of study told her enough about Kansen to know that a minor one wouldn't risk directly angering a Shugenja, but they would certainly encourage something stronger to do so, and everything pointed towards there being something else down here. The Kansen's silence was the last straw. For now the small chance of saving one life was not worth potentially sacrificing three more, so she promptly took hold of the two Bushi (wherever her hand happened to fall) and made a B-line to Kagae's voice and the door.
"Find your courage, 'warriors'. Was this not what I already warned you?" she could only grumble in response to the rising whines of her fellow samurai. Considering how prepared they were for such an encounter, they were surprisingly dim-witted when it came to actually dealing with it.

It was what Denbe had feared, and Kojiro shouting it only made him feel jumpier, as though that was the line to cue the monster to jump out from under the bridges and assail them. Nervously looking this way and that in the darkness, the Hare would try to follow with Masuyo, as she went to forge the way out, resisting the urge to curse and instead trying to keep his ears open for any noises, signs of something moving down here besides them, and perhaps... what sort of thing or where.
If he was left stranded in the dark and didn't make it to the door with the others, however, he'd do the next best thing- crouching and cutting a small strip of cloth from his kimono to try to hurriedly bind his wound with.
