It's uncertain what the space was ACTUALLY utilized for, but if Kagae was the gambling type, the safest bet would be for storage. There seemed to be a lack of enough walls to indicate it being a prison or really much of anything else.
It could have been a meeting room as well, if he visualized a large table in the center and maps along the walls.
Nothing else immediately comes to mind.

"Amazing we've found what seems to be a storage room or an empty meeting room. Sinister isn't it? Well best look elsewhere then." Suggested Kagae gesturing towards the exit keen to leave.

"We may as well give it the once over before we leave. Let it be said that we left no stone unturned. Kojiro commented. Even those we shouldn't have turned over in the first place. The bushi added mentally.
"I'm sure there's no need for more than a quick pass. After this, we can head out of this castle and then figure out what happened..."

Denbe turned over his feet, pacing about the darkened room and frowning deeply, moving with agitation. And well fitting, he felt the hairs on the back of his neck practically standing on end. He was ready to jump out of his skin. If only he knew why. If only...
"Kitsuki-san. You said... there are no kami in this room?"
Denbe knew enough of the ways of the magic, even if he was not trained in its use, to know that this did not sound normal. It wasn't how it worked- kami were in everything. That was just the plain old basics. So he worked his mind, trying to recall if he could think of anything that would make the kami utterly shun a place.
"...then you can no more cast any spells to further inspect the place? What might be hidden... or gone..."

Kojiro carefully stepped into the room after Denbe did. He did his best not to be betrayed by the unease he felt in the room. "Right then...."
The Scorpion started his catalogue of the room. Although he doubted he would find anything, you never really knew what would happen. Kojiro sure hadn't expected to find Asako-sama's pack in that house, for instance....

Against her greater instincts Masuyo also could not leave until they had seen all of this terrible place. She stuck closely to the side of their lightsource-carrying Bushi and added another pair of eyes to his search, even while distracting herself by answering Denbe's question.
"I could still beseech the Kami to enter and assist us. They are not here, true, but close enough. But... I've read about such places, filled with corruption. Praying to the Kami here may very well risk attracting the attention of a Kansen. It's just as well, though. I am not versed in any air spells that could aid us in finding secrets. Only my own spiritual senses, which are still just as functional within as without." Of course she was referring to 'Sense' as a spell, that she had used before, which any spellcraft student would likely know was not so much a prayer as it was a simpler, limited 6th sense. ...that just so happened to use up a spell slot, so go figure...

"Corruption?" Asked Kagae out loud quickly fumbling in his obi for his finger of jade bringing it out and holding it to the light so he could get a good look at it.

The Scorpion cursed silently to himself. Just what had they gotten into. Before the shugenja could cast her spell, Kojiro pulled the finger of jade from Asako-sama's traveling pack. "Here, Kitsuki-san. Use this for now. If it's not needed, give it back later."

Suddenly, the flame of Kojiro's torch turns black.
Then goes out, sentencing you all into complete darkness.
@ Jade wielders - you did not get a chance to look upon it before this happened.

"....Right...Maybe we should come back at a later time when we are more thoroughly equipped to deal with this....." Kojiro would start moving towards the entrance to the room, or at least where he thought it was. He would also try to guide Masuyo if she were still nearby him, hopefully touching a clothed portion of her form.

The only one who wasn't moving about the room was Kagae, and as such, it is uncertain where the stairs out are to the rest of you. Kojiro, as you walk, you find the ground uneven as you attempt to move - that is to say, uneven floor in an otherwise normal, empty, even-floored room. You are walking upon brittle stones now, it seem. CrunchCrunch Crunch I'll require Perception/Hunting rolls to try to navigate your way out. Kagae, your TN is 10. Everyone else, your TN is 25. Using your voice to signal where you are gives everyone a Free Raise to navigate. Kagae, your TN to find the others is 25. Everyone else, your TN to find each other is 10, and Kagae 25. @ Denbe's Spellcraft roll: Most of what Masuyo said is true. Generally, kami are everywhere, unless something is keeping them away, driving them away, or corrupting them. With the black flame thing, your raise tells you that it's PROBABLY the third thing.

Kojiro's right hand was upon his katana's hilt as he tried to feel his way out of the room. Cautiously and carefully, he uttered "Kitsuki-san? Ujina-san? I'm over here." the Scorpion would extend his hand cautiously in the direction where he thought the Dragon Shugenja had been. She was fairly close by when this...happened. Needless to say, Kojiro dropped the useless torch.

The Hare licked his lips, and felt ready to panic. This was certainly bad. A bad room that was no longer being subtle about the fact. It made him wonder if something consciously malign was still here. Setting one hand on his katana, he held the other out to help navigate.
"I'm heading toward you," he called out quietly to Kojiro, moving in his general direction.
The Scorpion might have been looking for Masuyo, but in about an instant find his kimono grabbed, followed by a jumpy apology by the Hare, as he settled in beside him, stepping carefully about as if he expected some sort of invisible enemy to be rounding them.
