i seeee... and threatening anyone, especially a child... with something they are deathly afraid of is preferable to threatening them with something like i did.... paladine muses as he scours the countryside..... ye have a strange sense of parenting, kerobian... but then... i suspect ye've never been a parent, have ye?

I wasn't telling ye to threaten him with it, you halfwit. I was informing you of a reason he may be acting the way he is. His fear of darkness, coupled with the fact that his brother is a DARK mage, could have some nasty effects on his personality. It took me years to start liking creatures again....I thrust them away with wicked pranks and bad attitude.
I was also warning you to keep some kind of light in his room, even at night. He's tired, Paladine...very tired.
And how dare you accuse me of having never been a parent...I raised half the gem-children, and any kitsune pup that stumbles into the Void is in my care until I find its parents.

paladine chuckles wickedly... and that is why so many kitsune want yer head on a platter is it? i bet few kitsune pups make it that far... still i understand... and i will make adjustments accordingly.... wait... what's that?... he spirals down to check on something out of the norm....

little one, are ye hungry... asks the dragon gently... he carefully covers the small dragon and hugs him close with his wing... silently thanking the all father that he had found him.... ye know... i've found some of the most wonderful stones on the way here... if ye put them out in the sun during the day, they glow all through the night... shall we go gather a few for your cave?

paladine shakes his great head no... heaven's no, child... i only wanted you to think before ye act... ye have enormous potential.... and are destined to grow up a wise and well... powerful (paladine probably wouldn't be able to consider "kero" great quite yet...) mage.... but the way ye act sometimes... i fear ye'll never make it... ye are a sweet, lovely child but one of the more stubborn creatures i have ever known...
we need to come to an understanding here... i will not abandon ye... nor will i seek to harm thee... but i will chastise ye from time to time... to remind ye that ye've gone beyond the borders of acceptable behavior... i would far rather simply speak with ye and talk things over, but whenever i try ye take advantage of my actions... and that we cannot have... do ye understand?
limits are limits... and even i must abide by them... how about we draw up a list of limits between us... while we gather those stones... guidelines along with acceptable punishments of behaviors which are proper and those which are not....

*Luciel nods, and starts off. Meanwhile, Paladine spies Kero flying overhead*
Thank you, great one. A list like that is just what he needs. Here....I'll go and grab a stone for him myself. I need to have some words with him soon. Make up your list. I'll be at the junction of the creek...I need to fish...I'm hungry.

paladine shrugs with a sigh... a list is no good without his input... he's too smart for me to simply impose a list upon him... he must have an active participation in it's making if he is expected to follow it... go fish... and then mayhaps the three of us together can work things out....

*Luciel comes flapping back...and a bolt of aethr seems to follow him and latch on for a moment*
Paladine...I have granted Luciel a hint of my intelligence...He'll be able to communicate normally, is all. I have in no way tampered with his maturity.
*The ather flaps away, loeaving Luciel standing there*
Daddy...what ye want to limit? What behaviors be improper? What about pranks? Lying is bad...Emnast never got punished for lying. Stealing's bad. Ummmm

yes... lying is bad... and so is stealing... pranks are fine as long as no one is harmed or ridiculed within them... they also need to be tempered a bit... let's put it this way, luceil... if something was happening to you that you did not wish to happen and you could not control it no matter what you tried, would you be happy with the person who was doing this to you? the easiest way to understand this is... sweets are nice... we all like how they taste, right? but when we eat too many they make us sick....
well.... when you play small pranks, people often times enjoy them... they make people laugh... but pranks which go overboard have a way of crossing over the fine line between funny into bullying... and bullying is downright wrong...
so we have three things on our list right now that are bad... lying, stealing, bullying... and while we are speaking of bullying... can ye see where your treatment of igniska could be viewed as bullying?

*Luciel nods*
Yes...I was mean to her, and she didn't attack me.
*Looks at Paladine*
What about bad words? That weird lion says a lot of them. Ummm....Running away is bad. Me not listening is bad.
*A shudder crosses his body*
What about punishments? Some of these things are really bad.

bad language is improper but not necessarily bad, luceil... it depends on how and why you use it... are you swearing to let off steam or are you swearing to make someone feel bad... understand? now running away is bad in that you should always hold yourself accountable for your actions... you may be able to run away physically, but mentally the knowledge will always be there that you did not see something through to the end... as for not listening... yes, that is indeed bad... just remember that you must always weigh the speaker with the same scale you weigh yourself... i will never tell you to do something wrong... but another might... and i do not believe anyone here is my valley will seek to mislead you either... so for now... trust us and listen to what we say... ok... if you do not listen then the speaker will get angry... and angry people tend to not think too clearly
i agree with you on punishments.... punishments can be very bad, when given for the wrong thing and too heavy handedly... which is why i have tried to temper mine... that is why we are working on this list... you and i will figure out what is allowed and what is not... then we will figure out what should be done for those things which are wrong... i doubt we'll cover everything, but if you have a good idea of that which is allowed and that which is not... then when or if you do something not on the list, you'll understand why you're being punished... i hope... if not... shall we agree that for any punishment not on the list you get to ask three questions... what should those questions be then?
