@ Cryrin: The skirt is my first and only lolita skirt. I didn't know much about fabrics, laces, and other things when I made it, so it looks pretty bad. Better than nothing, though.

Sewing's a hard craft to master, especially where Lolita is concerned. 3nodding
For reference: the best fabrics to work with in Lolita are 100% cotton-- something of a decent thickness (not thin broadcloth). In terms of lace, I suggest glancing at this thread. And for desiging things, I really suggest looking through brand sites for ideas that you really like. Dresses and skirts should generally be lined, seams finished (serged, french seamed, etc), and so on.
If you ever have any questions, feel free to ask anyone here, and we'll be sure to offer what help we can. heart

Thank you very much! Since we don't have the money to do much at the moment, I probably won't be making much for now... And, I can't figure out how to do waistbands... Like, when I make a skirt, I use elastic because it's the only thing I know how to use, but I can't make the waistband look presentable. With the skirt in the picture, I modified a skirt, so I didn't have to worry at all.

Waistbands are mostly a matter of learning how to overlap things and still make them look nice. My best friend with waistbands has always been the iron-- I usually use a 3 inch strip of fabric for the waistband, folded first in half (ironed smooth) and then fold the unfinished edges folded in 1/2in (and iron again) so that all I have to do is insert the fabric of the skirt between the folds and then stitch along the bottom edge of the waistband. A lot of times, I'll also put in a 1in wide strip of interfacing to make sure the waistband stays smooth.
If you don't want to put a zipper in the skirt, you can put elastic in just half of it, and do a regular waistband in the front so that still looks nice. As an example, you can kind of see the seam along the bottom of the waistband in this skirt that I made, and it is also half elasticized. smile

I never thought of that. I thought I'd have to figure out a way to have a nice looking waistband that's smooth, then have the stretchy elastic inside. It never worked out in my head that I should half elasticize it and make it look nice in the front.

-has a stupid question- What exactly is interfacing and what does it do?

Well, I have really bad pictures. Just a warning before anyone says anything 'bout my skirt:
I don't own a petticoat. I could've borrowed one from my aunt (Would've been a squaredancing one), but I'd rather have no petti vs. square dancing. Secondly, My friends stuck the belt on me as a joke, and I would've gotten tackled if I took it off before the meeting that night. Thirdly and Fourthly, It's a casual-loli outfit, and the parasol was a gift from the blonde girl flipping everyone off... >.> I love it to death, and I would kill anyone who disses the oriental parasol. domokun
[/end of rant]

-Fully open to CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, comments, ect.-

n.n;; Well, I'm not the fondest of it... but at least you tried *at a lack of words* I like the parasol though!

Interfacing on Wikipedia. smile
They sell it in fabric and craft stores, or the fabric section at Walmart. For waistbands, I use light or medium weight fusible (the type that you can iron directly on to the fabric). Occassionally, you can find it already in 1 to 2in wide strips for the purpose of putting in waistbands.
It's also good for using elsewhere in dresses for added support. I like to have lightly structured tops to my dresses, so if I don't want it so structured as to use boning, I'll generally use lightweight interfacing between the outer layer of fabric and the lining. It's just about perfect to make the bodice portion lay nice and smooth. It can also be useful on the straps of dresses, if you don't want to have to worry about the fabric twisting and rolling inward (though topstiching over them helps, also)

Thankies~ I'm hoping to get or make a kimono to match it one day. I think that'd be adorable.

Here is a picture with the first dress I ever made... with stretch velvet xp .
I know, I know, it's not the best fabric, but I think it doesn't look that bad... no? My friends like it 3nodding .

It's a "nurse fetish" outfit, to classify in erololita.
